Friends Flitton and Dobbs clinch honours at Ross Golf Club
THE latest honours board competition for men members in Ross Golf Club's annual programme of summer events saw 25 pairs aiming to win the George Griffiths Greensomes stableford event.
The format requires players to play shots alternately after choosing their preferred drives, successful scoring is dependant upon both parties achieving some consistency on the day.

Golfing friends Keith Flitton and Paul Dobbs, who are both relative newcomers at the Gorsley based tree-lined course, will feel that they could not have performed more effectively in amassing a remarkable 44 points total to finish six points ahead of their nearest rivals.
As Paul's son James happens to be one of the renowned PGA Professionals at the Ross Club, he can point to the coaching handed down over the years and an inspiration in their impressive 13 points recorded over their final four holes with a birdie and three pars.
The competition proved very much a family affair in that Keith's son James Flitton partnered by the Ross Club's 2024 Juniors Captain James Sayce were runners-up, albeit six points adrift of the champions.
Jon Matthews and Paul Meek also carded a 38 points total.

There was a host of creditable 37 pointers which included Cam Haines/ Ross Jenkins - Tim Kefalas/Alec Osborn - Derek and Harvey Hancock - David and Paul Warwick and Wayne Rees/Chris Tweedale.
Meanwhile, Ledbury Rugby Football Club are to hosting a Community Walk and Wellbeing Picnic on Wednesday, July 2.
This inclusive event has been developed in partnership with the Wellbeing Walk and Talk Leaders, supported by Talk Community, and funded by the UK Government's Household Support Fund further develop its relationships with key organisational partners across the locality, and continue its work supporting the local community.
The Walk and Wellbeing Picnic invites people of all ages, including families and those with young children, to enjoy a morning of fresh air, gentle exercise, and community connection.
The event aims to promote health and wellbeing while also offering vital information and support for those experiencing financial hardship or at risk of such difficulties.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet a diverse range of organisations, including Parkinson's UK, West Mercia Police, Ledbury Food Bank, Age UK, Citizen's Advice Bureau, Dementia Matters, and more.

Bradley eyes playing captain role at Ryder Cup after win
Keegan Bradley is considering serving as a playing captain in September when he guides the US team into the Ryder Cup after winning the PGA Travelers Championship (Alex Goodlett) Keegan Bradley could become the first Ryder Cup playing captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963 after jumping to seventh in world rankings following his PGA Tour Travelers Championship victory. The 39-year-old American's fightback triumph Sunday over England's Tommy Fleetwood brought an eighth career PGA crown, his fourth in as many years, and sparked already brisk talk about Bradley playing on his US squad against Europe in September at Bethpage Black. Advertisement "Yeah, I mean, listen, this changes the story a little bit," said Bradley, previously reluctant to consider a playing captaincy. "I never would have thought about playing if I hadn't won. This definitely opens the door to play. I don't know if I'm going to do it or not, but I certainly have to take a pretty hard look at what's best for the team and we'll see." Bradley leaped 14 spots in the world rankings and into ninth in the US team points qualifying. While still shy of the six automatic qualifying spots, Bradley is in a position that would typically be worthy of a captain's pick. "It's still June, so we still got a long ways to go," Bradley said. Former LIV player receives sponsor invite into hometown Rocket Classic
James Piot will finally play his hometown PGA Tour event. The 26-year-old Piot, who grew up just outside Detroit in Canton and starred at Michigan State, received a sponsor exemption into this week's Rocket Classic at Detroit Golf Club. Piot got the call on Monday morning, just before he was set to tee it up in the Rocket Classic's open qualifier at Fieldstone Golf Club in Auburn Hills. Advertisement 'For it to actually happen is the coolest thing in the world,' Piot told the Detroit News on Monday. 'It's awesome. Just the fact I finally get to play in the Rocket Classic, it's a dream come true. Ever since the event was created on the schedule, I wanted to be a part of it.' This will mark Piot's first PGA Tour start in over three years. He competed in four Tour events, plus the Masters and U.S. Open, in 2022, a year after he won the 2021 U.S. Amateur at Oakmont. But Piot's Tour future – including a likely invite into the Rocket – was put on hold when he opted to join LIV Golf for the league's inaugural season in June 2022. Piot also competed the following season on LIV, but after finishing 47th in points, just inside the open zone, his contract was not renewed by the HyFlyers, the team captained by Phil Mickelson. Piot's PGA Tour suspension ended in October 2023. He has played mostly on the Asian Tour since his LIV stint ended, but earlier this year he Monday-qualified for the Korn Ferry Tour's Lecom Suncoast Classic, where he missed the cut.
