Bengaluru RCB celebration stampede: Siddaramaiah announces aid, orders enquiry
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah called the stampede near Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebrations that left 11 people dead and many injured, an 'unexpected tragedy,' while clarifying that the stadium event was hosted by the Karnataka State Cricket Association, not the state government.Speaking at a press conference, Siddaramaiah said, "The Chinnaswamy Stadium has a seating capacity of 35,000. But around 2 to 3 lakh people came to the stadium. Around one lakh people had gathered in front of Vidhana Soudha, but no untoward incident happened there. No one expected this to happen, even the Cricket Association didn't expect it."'Many stampedes have occurred, even at the Kumbh Mela. I'm not defending this," he said.He announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of those who lost their lives. He also assured free treatment for the injured. He also confirmed that an investigation is now underway. "A Deputy Commissioner-level enquiry has been ordered by the government," he said.advertisement'A moment of joy has been eclipsed by sorrow,' he said in a post on X, mourning the lives lost and extending condolences to the bereaved families.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening as thousands of fans gathered outside the stadium to celebrate RCB's much-anticipated IPL title win. Despite earlier concerns about overcrowd control, the overwhelming turnout led to a stampede-like situation, resulting in multiple casualties and serious injuries.Siddaramaiah, who visited Bowring and Vaidehi hospitals to meet the injured and their families, said the government had denied permission for a full-scale victory parade precisely due to concerns over safety. 'The team was not allowed to march on the victory parade, in anticipation of an unpleasant incident,' he said."I spoke to doctors. All the injured are out of danger," he said in his press conference.Must Watch

2 arrested for taking ₹24 lakh from youngster promising selection in IPL team
Belagavi police arrested two persons from Uttar Pradesh on the charge of defrauding a young cricketer from Belagavi. Susanjan and Diwakar, both around 25, were arrested from their hometown in Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. This followed a long and detailed investigation by the Belagavi police. They face charges of collecting over ₹24 lakh from the family of Rakesh Yadure of Chinchani near Chikkodi. They had lied to the young sportsperson's family that they would get him selected to the Rajasthan Royals IPL cricket team. The boy comes from a humble background. His father, a security guard, took loans to pay the conmen. Superintendent of Police Bheemashankar S. Guled told reporters in Belagavi on June 12 that Susanjan had previously cheated two others using a similar modus operandi, while Diwakar appeared to be a first-time offender. Mr. Yadure, 19, had excelled in a cricket match in Hyderabad in May 2024. He posted photos and videos of the match on Instagram. The fraudsters, claiming to be selectors from the IPL team, sent him friend requests, and said he was under consideration. In December 2024, Mr. Yadure received a message claiming he had been shortlisted for the IPL team. The message included a link to a 'registration form' and requested an initial payment of ₹2,000. Over the next few months — between December 22, 2024, and April 19, 2025 — Mr. Yadure's father made multiple payments totalling ₹23.53 lakh. The duo promised fees ranging from ₹40,000 to ₹8 lakh per match. The cricketer's family filed a complaint with the Cyber, Economic, and Narcotics (CEN) Police Station on May 17 this year. Dr. Guled advised people, especially the youth, to be cautious of such scams. 'We urge citizens, especially youngsters, not to fall for online claims of sports selection, jobs, or cash rewards. Always verify such claims,' he said.

Delhi Swiggy delivery boy steals mobile phones, laptops to meet online IPL betting expenses, arrested
The Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested a 30-year-old Swiggy delivery boy for alleged thefts reported in Mandawali, Shakarpur, Laxmi Nagar, and adjoining localities. According to the police, the accused, identified as Vikram Kumar, also known as Vicky, 30, would often leave his house in the early hours of the day to break into houses, as his job as a food delivery agent frequently took him through these areas. 'Many people would not worry about locking their houses during 6-8 am. Most of them would be busy taking a bath or cooking. He would sneak into some houses where he had delivered food earlier, and steal mobile phones or laptops lying on tables near the entrances,' a police officer said. According to the police, Vicky was into online IPL betting that couldn't keep up with his income and hence he resorted to stealing electronic items, the police said. A total of 10 mobile phones and one laptop were recovered from him, which solved six e-FIRs of house thefts, the police said. Vicky has over 16 cases lodged against him at different police stations, said an officer. He has been arrested multiple times before and was out on bail. He came into the police's crosshairs again after he stole two mobile phones from the Shakarpur area, the officer said. 'Vicky was apprehended from a vacant plot situated between Hyundai Showroom and Aditi Apartment, Narwana Road, Mandawali. Appropriate legal action has been initiated under Section 35(1)(E) BNSS at Mandawali police station,' Abhishek Dhania, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), said.
