Forest City hosts 6,000-strong half-marathon to showcase Johor as premier sports tourism destination
JOHOR BARU, May 31 — The MMC Friendship Half Marathon 2025 today drew a record 6,000 participants, making it the largest half-marathon ever held in Johor.
Held in Forest City, the event featured 21.1km, 10km, and 5km categories, attracting runners from across Malaysia as well as neighbouring Singapore.
'The MMC Friendship Half Marathon is more than just a sporting event – it is a platform that brings people together, promotes healthy lifestyles, and showcases Johor as a premier sports tourism destination,' Johor Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development, and Cooperatives chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah as he flagged off the event.
Participants enjoyed scenic views along the race route and took part in family-friendly activities such as inflatable playgrounds, wellness booths, and food stalls, reinforcing the event's community spirit theme.
MMC Corporation Berhad Group Managing Director Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh thanked all partners and sponsors.
'This marathon truly embodies the spirit of friendship and community... we remain committed to fostering unity, wellness and regional cooperation through events like this,' he said.
Other dignitaries present included Johor Unity, Culture and Heritage chairman Raven Kumar Krishnasamy; the state Unity, Culture and Heritage chairman, Datuk Pandak Ahmad who is also Kota Iskandar assemblyman; Iskandar Puteri deputy police chief Superintendent Mohd Azlan Abdul Kadir, Forest City regional vice-president Syarul Izam Sarifudin.

His mother, Leanne Burnett, who is flying to Malaysia with other family members to search for him, said: 'I have been feeling just sick, numb. I just want to get over there, find him and bring him home.' She was also quoted as saying: 'If he was to lose his phone and laptop, if someone had stolen that off him, he knows my number by heart and he would contact. He'd find a way to get hold of us.' Merseyside Police, the British Consulate, and Malaysian authorities. His last known location was tracked via Find My iPhone to a block of flats near the Bangsar bar, but the signal has since stopped. Friends and relatives are now sharing Jordan's missing person appeal across social media and local Malaysian networks, hoping for any information that might help locate him. His employer has also been informed of his disappearance.

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : A 25-year-old British man has been reported missing by his family after a night out at a bar in Bangsar on May 27. According to the Daily Mail UK, Jordan Johnson-Doyle was on a solo tour of Southeast Asia and had been backpacking in the region. He was believed to have gone to Healy Mac's Irish Bar in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, for a pub quiz, based on a photo he sent to his mother, Leanne Burnett. AdChoices ADVERTISING 'I have no idea what has happened. All I know is something is really wrong for him not to contact anybody,' Burnett was quoted as saying. 'I know what he's like and he knows how worried everyone gets at home. That is why he checks in all the time.' Burnett said even if his phone or laptop had been stolen, her son knows her number and would have found a way to call. 'He would go to the nearest hotel to use the phone, or go to an internet café. He'd find a way to get hold of us,' she said, according to the report in the UK daily. She added that a location check using the Find My iPhone app showed his phone last pinged at a residential building near the bar. The signal stopped three days later on May 30 when the battery is believed to have died. Jordan, a software engineer, had arrived in Malaysia on May 17 after travelling from Vietnam. He works remotely while backpacking across the region, his mother said. It is unclear where he was staying in Kuala Lumpur. A missing person report has been filed with Merseyside police, the British consulate, and Malaysian police. Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain told FMT he will ask Kuala Lumpur police to check for any such reports and promised to investigate further. FMT has also reached out to the British high commission for comment.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 — Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar topped the list of 104 recipients of the 2025 federal awards, medals and honours in conjunction with the official birthday of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, held at Istana Negara today. His Majesty bestowed the Darjah Panglima Mangku Negara (PMN) award upon Mohd Dusuki, 58. The award carries the 'Tan Sri' title. Other recipients included Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar, Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Hasnah Mohammed Hashim, Navy Chief Tan Sri Zulhelmy Ithnain, and Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay. Prime Minister's Department Senior Deputy Secretary-General Datuk Abd Shukor Mahmood and the Attorney General's Chambers Legal Division head Datuk Donald Joseph Franklin were among five individuals awarded the Panglima Jasa Negara (PJN), which carries the 'Datuk' title.
