Congress MP Gogoi's Parliament speech proves he acts on behalf of Pakistan: Assam CM Himanta
Taking to X, Sarma wrote, 'Speech delivered by our MP from Jorhat in Parliament yesterday proved beyond doubt that he acts on behalf of Pakistan. His secret trip and close ties with the Pakistani establishment speak volumes.'
The Chief Minister further claimed that Gogoi's wife and both children hold foreign citizenship, suggesting that the Congress leader 'can leave India any time.' 'He is a disgrace to Assam and a betrayal of our pride as proud Indians,' Sarma added.

Trumps Tariff Tirade: Time For India To Hit Back At US; Can America's Arrogance May Revive Dragon-Elephant Dance?
When the United States imposed a 104% total tariff on China, Beijing was quick to reciprocate, slapping US goods with almost equal levies. US President Donald Trump understood that his pressure tactics would not work with Beijing, and now the tariffs are on hold until August 12 as the two countries deliberate on a trade deal. Now, Trump has imposed additional tariffs on India, taking the levies to 51% and Indian leaders want the government to retaliate. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor urged the government to impose a counter 50% tariff on the United States. PM Modi's Reaction Reacting to the US pressure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi refused to bow down and said that India won't bow down to these tactics. PM Modi on Thursday said that farmers remain India's top priority, stating that the country would never compromise their interests. "For us, the interest of our farmers is our top priority. India will never compromise on the interests of farmers, fishermen and dairy farmers. I know we will have to pay a heavy price for it, and I am ready for it. India is ready for it," PM Modi said. China Backs India Notably, Trump has been trying to push India against trade with Russia, alleging that New Delhi is funding Moscow's war machines against Ukraine. Russia recently said that every country has a right to choose its trading partners and the United States' attempt to force-cut trade between Russia and any other country is illegal and would be deemed as a threat. Now, China has backed India against the United States. Taking an excerpt from a newspaper, a Chinese spokesperson shared it on social media - "India's sovereignty is non-negotiable and its foreign policy choices cannot be manipulated by other countries, no matter how significant their own ties with India are." China-Russia-India Troika China has repeatedly said that it's keen on improving ties with India and making the dragon-elephant dance once again. Russia, too, has shown a keen interest in reviving the Russia-China-India troika. Trump's tariff move is not just hurting Indian exports but also sending a clear message that the United States can't be a trusted partner for New Delhi. Trump's growing ties with Pakistan have already irked India and now the additional tariffs are pushing India to look beyond America. China-India Ties Revival Donald Trump's growing ties with Pakistan have already irked India and now the tariffs are making India once again realise that America cannot be a trusted partner of New Delhi. This will make India look beyond the US and may bring China and India closer together. Former British Treasury Minister Jim O'Neill said in an interview that if the US is putting tariffs on India, which is the least anti-US member of the BRICS, then India might start rethinking its pro-US stand. "The last thing America wants is India and China becoming more friendly," he said, hinting that a stronger India and China would be a bigger headache for the US. Trump's Nobel Prize Ambition Since taking over as the President of the United States, Donald Trump has been pushing his case for the Nobel Peace Prize. Trump claimed that he stopped six wars in six months, including that between India and Pakistan. The wars that Trump claims to have stopped are Israel and Iran; the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda; Cambodia and Thailand; India and Pakistan; Serbia and Kosovo; and Egypt and Ethiopia. Now, Trump is so keen on pushing a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine for his Nobel Peace Prize dream that he appears ready to sacrifice a partner like India. It's time for India to take on the United States head-on, as the Trump administration has already been favouring Pakistan and only statements are not going to help New Delhi's cause.

Rahul Gandhi's claims on poll rigging baseless: Eknath Shinde
PTI Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday dubbed as "baseless" the claims of "huge criminal electoral fraud" made by Rahul Gandhi, saying the Congress has the habit of levelling allegations after losing elections. In an exclusive video interview with PTI, Shinde said the MahaYuti of BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP registered a landslide victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections purely on basis of public welfare schemes such as 'Ladki Bahin' and pro-farmers initiatives. "In the Lok Sabha elections, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi won 30 seats in Maharashtra, while we got 17 seats. Does this mean they (MVA) had stolen the mandate? When you won elections in Telangana and Karnataka did you indulge in EVM rigging or stealing of votes," Shinde shot back when asked about the allegations levelled by Gandhi. He asserted that the MahaYuti government was committed to public welfare and the people approved of various initiatives taken by the government, which was also reflected in the landslide victory of the ruling alliance. "When you win elections, the Election Commission is good. When you win elections, EVMs are good. But, when you lose, then you raise allegations and blame everyone. This is a policy where a bad workman always blames the tool. This is why the people have shown the Opposition its place," Shinde said. The Shiv Sena leader said the allegations levelled by Gandhi are "baseless" and made with the intention of "tarnishing" the image of the Election Commission and the government. Shinde also hit out at bete-noire Uddhav Thackeray for attending a meeting at the residence of Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha."It is surprising that he (Thackeray) is visiting the residence of the leader of the party that rewarded the person who snatched the voting right of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray," Shinde said the Congress had rewarded the then chief election commissioner who disenfranchised Balasaheb Thackeray with a ministerial berth."You are meeting people who insulted Balasaheb, you are meeting those people who have insulted questioned Operation Sindoor and the valour of armed forces," Shinde said. On the Congress-led Opposition questioning the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, Shinde said the opposition parties have realised that they were heading towards a defeat and hence preparing a ground for it in advance."When they see defeat, they start preparing ground for it in advance. They have begun to realise that they are losing the Bihar elections, so they have started attacking the SIR exercise," he said."These attempts to create a perception do not succeed always. People are intelligent," Shinde said. He also hit back at Thackeray for calling him 'gaddar' (traitor). The deputy chief minister said it was Thackeray who had betrayed the peoples' mandate in the 2019 Maharashtra elections and joined hands with the Congress and NCP."The word used by Uddhav Thackeray is an apt description of himself. In 2019, Maharashtra had given a mandate to the Shiv Sena-BJP to form the government. Whom did they align with? The Congress, just for self-interest to become chief minister, to grab the CM's chair. The word he (Thackeray) uses for me -- betrayer, traitor - applies to him to the point," Shinde said the people of Maharashtra taught the real betrayers a lesson in the 2024 assembly elections."They did not even win a mandate to be recognised as the Leader of the Opposition. The people of Maharashtra have put a rubber stamp on the real betrayers of the state through the election results," Shinde said. He also lashed out at Thackeray for criticizing him for meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. "When I meet Modi ji and Amit bhai, they make a lot of noise and claim that I have gone to meet my masters. We are proud to meet the people who have contributed to the development of Maharashtra. These are the people who brought Balasaheb's dreams to reality by removing Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir and building the Ram Temple in Ayodhya," Shinde said.

BJP not opposed to political quota to Muslims in education, jobs: Ramchander Rao
The BJP is not against Muslims and has no objection to providing them reservations in education and employment opportunities. However, granting political reservations to Muslims harms the Backward Classes (BCs) while the 4% reservation currently given to Muslims is also under legal scrutiny in courts, said Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Thursday. 'We are only opposed to the 10% Muslim reservation that the Congress is proposing,' he said, and pointed out that in the last GHMC elections, 50 divisions were reserved for BCs, but MIM candidates — who are Muslims — won 35 of those seats. 'This was a grave injustice to the BC community,' he said, addressing cadre and leaders at several meetings during his ongoing Jangoan district tour. He demanded the Congress Government to pass the reservation bill in the Assembly and immediately issue a notification for local body elections, ensuring 42% reservation for BCs. Congress protest in Delhi was a complete flop with none of the top leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi attending it. 'Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy himself admitted that the quota would be implemented only if Rahul Gandhi becomes Prime Minister — which will not happen,' he remarked and said the Delhi protest was not genuinely about BCs rights but was aimed at pushing for a Muslim quota. Mr. Rao also criticised the Congress government's handling of the Musi River pollution, which he said has severely impacted farmers in Bhongir. He recalled that Mr. Revanth Reddy had promised to clean the river during his birthday visit to the Yadadri temple, but has since forgotten the commitment — a pattern he described as typical of the Congress. The BJP chief also accused the government of 'avoiding' handing over Kaleshwaram project and other scams of the BRS regime to the CBI. 'If Congress truly had integrity, they would revoke the GO that bans CBI entry—issued during the BRS regime. Then, the CBI could recover the misappropriated funds in the Kaleshwaram case and deposit them into the government treasury. It could also jail ministers and political leaders involved in the phone tapping case,' he added.
