Naxal couple surrenders before security forces in Chhattisgarh
Raipur, Two senior Maoist cadres, including an education unit commander and a press team member, surrendered before security forces in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, officials said.
Jeevan Tulavi, 45, and his wife Agasha, 35, were active in the Maoist ranks for more than 20 years. They surrendered in the Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district, about 180 km from the state capital Raipur.
Tulavi alias Ram Tulavi was the divisional committee member and was working as education team commander in Maad division , while Agasha alias Aarti Korram was an area committee member of the outlawed CPI and was working in the press team in the same division and used to draft press releases, a senior officer said.
The state police had placed a ₹8 lakh reward for catching Tulavi, he said.
The couple surrendered before Rajnandgaon range Inspector General of Police Abhishek Shandilya, Superintendent of Police Y P Singh, and Commandant of the 27th Indo-Tibetan Border Police force Vivek Kumar Pandey.
The security forces called the surrender a "major" success, given that the two Maoists were part of the ideological setup of the Naxalites, who worked to motivate the cadres and recruit fresh blood into the fold.
Tulavi joined the ranks of the Left Wing Extremists in 2008 and worked in the military team of the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army in south Rajnandgaon.
After 2012-13, he changed track and got engaged as an LWE ideology teacher in the mobile political school of the Maad division, according to security officials.
The man hails from the Parvidih village in this district and has been working as the Maad division education unit commander and has extensively travelled in all the villages in Abujhmad to train and educate the political ideology of the Maoists through mobile academic school , they said.
Agasha is a resident of Telitola village in this district and has been working in the press team of the Maad division and as a commander of the Chetna Natya Mandali .
She has been a singer, dancer, poet, orator and a song composer since 2000 and was operating computers and drafting press releases for the LWEs, the officials said.
The district shares its border with Kanker and Gadchiroli in Maharashtra, and the forces are undertaking operations here as part of the Union government's declaration to end Maoism from the country by March 2026.

She also demanded that the Chief Minister to demand the central government to convene an Apex Council meeting immediately and push the Centre to act on Telangana's water concerns. MLC Kavitha called for an end to 'Operation Kagaar', urging both the central and state governments to initiate dialogue with Maoists. She expressed condolences on the death of Telangana Maoist leader Gajjala Ravi in an encounter and extended sympathies to his family.

HYDERABAD: With the encounter killing of CPI (Maoist) central committee member Gajarla Ravi, the banned outfit has lost its last top-level operative deployed in Andhra Pradesh. Ravi, a native of Telangana, was heading the crucial Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) special zonal committee. His death marks the complete elimination of all central committee members either operating in or originally from Andhra this year. A senior official said, "With Ravi gone, the central committee has no one left operating in Andhra. Andhra-origin members have also been wiped out." Though not from Andhra, Ravi had been overseeing Maoist operations in the AOB region, keeping the Andhra structure active after the loss of native leaders. His elimination deals a strategic blow to the organisation's command and coordination in Andhra territory. With no central committee leader now stationed in the state, the Maoist presence has suffered a significant leadership vacuum. While Andhra has been entirely wiped out from the top echelons, Telangana continues to dominate the central committee. Among the key Telangana leaders still active are Mallojula Venugopal Rao alias Sonu (Peddapalli), Thippiri Tirupathi alias Devji (Korutla), Kadari Satyanarayana Reddy alias Kosa, and Malla Raji Reddy alias Sangram (Peddapalli).

Maoist legacy of Gajarla family ends with Ravi: Top Maoist's four-decade journey ends in Andhra encounter; wife, brothers, cousins — all part of movement, most killed or surrendered
HYDERABAD: CPI (Maoist) central committee member Gajarla Ravi, who was killed in an encounter in the forest areas of Alluri Sitarama Raju district in Andhra Pradesh, joined the movement at a young age and gradually rose through the ranks. There was a brief period in his youth when his brother Saraiah tried weaning Ravi away from the Maoists and made him join an ITI at Peddapalli. But Ravi eventually joined the Chityala area Revolutionary Youth League in 1989-90. By 1990, he was in the Eturunagaram dalam, working alongside his cousin brothers Gajarla Ramesh alias Gajarla Naveen, who later died in an encounter in 2020. Ironically, Saraiah too joined the Maoist movement later. In 2002 Ravi, who was a district committee secretary of the Karimnagar east division, was demoted to district committee member after he was held responsible for the infamous Chintagudem bus blast in Warangal in which 20 civilians were killed and 16 others were injured. However, he was soon promoted again. By 2004, he had become a state committee member and later took charge of the Khammam-Karimnagar-Warangal region under the North Special Zonal Committee. In 2009, he was shifted to the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC), becoming one of its top leaders. Trail of losses Ravi's wife, Nidigonda Prameela alias Meena, was also a member of the Maoist ranks. She served as the divisional committee secretary of AOBSZC and died in an encounter in Andrapalli on Oct 12, 2018. Saraiah too was a central committee member and part of the central military commission. He had 70 criminal cases against him and was linked to the Manala killings, in which eight tribals were executed on charges of being police informers. Another brother, Gajarla Ashok alias Aithu, was a district committee secretary of south Bastar. He surrendered in 2015 due to ill health. He now works as a reporter with a local newspaper. His wife, Shanigarapu Uma alias Anitha, formerly part of a Maoist medical team, now works as a staff nurse in a private hospital in Hanamkonda. The eldest brother, Gajarla Rajaiah alias Posaiah, did not survive the prolonged underground life and died due to ill health. The only brother to have led a non-Maoist life is Gajarla Sammaiah, a retired coal filler in Mancherial. A brother-in-law, Ramesh alias Naveen, also a Maoist, was killed in an encounter on July 26, 2020. He was part of the Annasagar dalam.
