Mohammed Siraj: A warrior, who never stopped believing
How can you not love
? How can you not stand up and applaud the effort which he puts in for the team? How can you not appreciate the "niyat" (intention) with which he has played or prepared for the game? How can you not go aww at the child-like innocence behind the game face which continues to send shivers down the opposition's spine?
He is a rare breed, cut from a different cloth and driven by immense self-belief.

Believe and belief remained his closest friends when he sat for the press conference with the player of the match medal around his neck, and his captain
by his side. Every time he was asked about the morning, the dramatic hour, India's turnaround and the result, there was a lump in his throat, teary-eyed sheen in his eyes and a big smile on his face. Just like his bowling, he is a heady cocktail which has a mix of everything. From the extremes to the moderates, that's Siraj's way of bowling and life.
The 31-year-old can make things happen with his self-belief and the morning of Day 5 and that evening of Day 4 were just a couple of reminders. There would have been a sleepless night in that visitor's change room before the final act and Siraj too woke up two hours ahead of his usual time.
Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj press conference: India stars answer all questions
The game on his mind, he quickly googled "believe" and got a picture of
with the words written and it was immediately applied as the wallpaper of his phone.
Everytime he would glance at the lock screen, it was right in his face serving the reminders and it remained there even after the win was sealed and the series was drawn.
"I told myself that I will do it for my country," he said during a very candid interaction with the media and kept repeating why the drive to do something special for the 1.4 billions back home was very high. He understandably got very emotional revisiting that hour of play and how the Harry Brook drop catch was also playing on his mind.

There weren't any PR-trained responses to anything which was fired at him as he poured his heart out and retained the character of the Siraj everyone has fallen in love with.
"Mai soch raha tha ki mere saath his aisa kyu hota hai (I was thinking why it happens with me only)," he said on the Brook drop and Lord's heartbreak before adding, "upar waale ne kuch accha socha hoga mere liye (god would have planned something better for me).
There was so much admiration from both the visiting and home press sections when he spoke with so much honesty, and kept the mood light with his one-liners.
"I was celebrating then DK bhai pulled me aside for an interview and asked questions in English," said Siraj before cracking how even breakups hurt. Even Gill was smiling when his teammate was in his elements. When the skipper was asked about Siraj and his contributions, he was ready with the bucket full of roses for the leading wicket-taker of the series.
There is a viral clip of Siraj saying "we only believe in Jassi bhai" but that mood and sentiment quickly changed to "we also believe in Siraj bhai" after the series.
Ben Stokes press conference: On Mohammed Siraj, Chris Woakes batting with injury, 2-2 result
Gill asserted the respect he has earned in the change room is not for what he did this series but for whatever he has done for the country. 185.3 overs across the five Tests in a series which was dominated by the workload management and rotation chatter is an effort worth applauding and icing on the cake was his response to the workload.
"Body is fine (laughs). I have bowled almost 187 overs but I want to give my everything for the team. One shouldn't think like that they are bowling their sixth over or ninth over. I don't care. I believe in myself and the fact that you bowl every ball for your country. Play for the country, give it everything," said Siraj while asserting his point with hand gestures.
Siraj bowled 1,113 deliveries in the series and even then there was no dearth of intent or effort in the 1113th delivery which crashed into the stumps and sealed the win, his fifer and helped India seal the series. Behind the fierce competitor, is an emotional softie who never stops believing and is only focussed on achieving.

PO on the mic: Singer who called govt house a jail busted after 10 years
1 2 Chandigarh: Declared a proclaimed offender in 2016, Sirsa resident Jagsir Singh evaded police for nine years by constantly changing his location and identity. However, his run ended with a dramatic revelation on Wednesday — he is Punjabi singer Baaz Sran, who just two months ago released a song likening a 'Sarkari Kothi' (govt residence) to a jail. In an irony of sorts, the lyrics of the song 'Sarkari Kothi' — which has 13 lakh views on YouTube — go: 'Jattan di sarkari kothi hundi jail kuddey (The official residence of Jatts is jail, lady).' Sran, who has 32,600 followers on Instagram and has sung duets with female singers like Deepak Dhillon and Gurlez Akhtar, was arrested by the Chandigarh zonal unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in connection with the alleged seizure of 36kg opium in 2015. Sran hails from Malikpura village in Haryana's Sirsa district. An official privy to the case said Baaz himself penned the lyrics and composed his songs. In May 2025, NCB published Jagsir's details in leading newspapers and announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for information leading to his arrest. Based on inputs received thereafter, he was arrested on Wednesday, the NCB said in a statement. The statement added: "During his absconding period, he gained popularity as a singer on social media platforms like YouTube and Instagram, amassing millions of views under a different identity. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Learn More - How Donating Plasma May Boost Your Income SpellRock Undo " At the time of his arrest, Sran was accompanied by a woman, said an official. The official added that a co-accused in the opium seizure had already been convicted. The official added that though Sran had was facing a drug seizure case, he did not consume them. "He is a fitness freak. He had just finished running and was exercising when we nabbed him. While he was involved in the drugs case and promotes drugs and weapons in the songs, he himself does not consume drugs," added the official. 'Sarkari Kothi': A song about life of crime In the song 'Sarkari Kothi', Baaz Sran has also penned lyrics about facing charges under the Arms Act and an 'attempt to murder' charge against him. The lyrics go: "25, 54, 59 laggi naal 307 de ni, jail diyaan baahlian likhiyaan karman vich jatt de di (I have been charged with sections 25, 54 and 59, along with Section 307. A long stay in jail is written in Jatt's fate)."

Young India passes tough English test
Right after Mohammed Siraj picked up the final wicket of Gus Atkinson, the entire Indian team erupted in jubilation. First the pacer leapt in the air with his customary 'Siuu' celebration, then his teammates converged around him while a few members of the support staff beyond the boundary line rushed into the middle, all of them dancing in joy. A few moments later, the entire team proceeded for a victory lap around The Oval, which was packed to the rafters and roaring in delight after watching an epic 6-run win for the ages. The Indians didn't clinch the newly coined Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, but the boisterous celebrations—like they'd won a World Cup—showed how much the 2-2 verdict meant for this transitional team under new captain Shubman Gill. Having achieved some incredible success—home and away—over the past decade, the Indian team was hit by the sudden retirements of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and R Ashwin. Transitions are an inevitable part of sport, but when three big superstars bid adieu around the same time, especially after lifting a team to rarefied heights, it's an extremely challenging affair. It's what new captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir, who took charge from Rahul Dravid after the T20 World Cup a year ago, were tasked with — and to be fair, they've come out with flying colours. The biggest concern for the Indians before arriving here was on the batting front. Among the top order batters, only KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant had previous experience of playing a full series in England. Skipper Gill's form outside the subcontinent too was very average. Can this young crop deliver in a country where sound technique is of utmost importance? Yes, they did — with Gill leading from the front with a jaw-dropping 754 runs that included a career-best 269. Rahul scored 532 runs with two centuries and an equal number of half-centuries, his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal hit 411, starting and ending the series with a ton each, while vice-captain Pant was in elements, amassing 479 runs with two centuries and three fifties and earning a lot of praise for batting with a fractured foot. On the batting front, the find of the series was Washington Sundar. The Tamil Nadu off-spinning all-rounder scored a career-defining 101 not out to help India pull off a remarkable draw against all odds in the fourth Test in Manchester that ensured the series was still alive in the fifth. He was backed to the hilt by captain Gill, whose decision to play him instead of attacking spinner Kuldeep Yadav was pilloried by many critics — but Sundar repaid all that faith with performances on the field. No praise can be too high for Ravindra Jadeja, who yet again proved why he's the Most Valuable Player in the team still. One of the remnants of the old guard, the 36-year-old all-rounder brought his A-game in exceptional fashion, amassing 516 runs with one century and five half-centuries, playing several game-changing knocks. On the bowling front too, the southpaw didn't disappoint, bagging seven wickets. With regards to Gill's captaincy, the 25-year-old marshalled his resources incredibly well. He faced numerous challenges, especially in terms of fielding a settled bowling unit because of Jasprit Bumrah's 3-match availability 'clause', but he did a job with whatever he had. He made some bold calls in backing Sundar instead of Kuldeep because of the former's superior batting abilities and stood firm by his decision despite a lot of outside noise. There have been times when he has looked clueless and turned defensive when England batters were on the assault, but like he said, there are lessons to be learnt and he's willing to incorporate them in future assignments. On the bowling front, this tour has been Mohammed Siraj's. The Hyderabadi bowled with a lion's heart, sending down 185.3 overs with barely a dip in intensity. The spotlight was on Bumrah but Siraj deservedly stole the limelight with a mesmerising performance at The Oval. Prasidh Krishna and Akash Deep fared decently as understudies but it's the back-ups where India have a problem with. During Kohli's reign they had a wealth of resources on the fast bowling front — but suddenly the barrel appears a little dry. It's something that needs serious addressing if India are to continue dominating.
