HC dismisses plea against Ramayana, Veda workshops in basic schools of U.P.
: The Allahabad high court has dismissed a public interest litigation challenging the letter issued by the director, International Ramayana and Vedic Research Institute, Ayodhya, regarding the organising of summer Ramayana and Veda workshops in basic schools of Uttar Pradesh.
With this order, these workshops proposed in the basic schools of the state can now be held.
A division bench of Chief Justice Arun Bhansali and Justice Kshitij Shailendra gave this verdict while dismissing the PIL filed by Dr Chaturanan Ojha. The director, International Ramayana and Vedic Research Institute, Ayodhya had issued a letter on May 5, 2025 requesting all the basic shiksha adhikaris (BSA) of the state that Summer Ramayana and Veda Abhiruchi Workshops are proposed to be organised by the International Ramayana and Vedic Research Institute, Ayodhya in all 75 districts of the state.
The court, while dismissing the petition, observed, 'The petitioner, without disclosing his credentials except for as noticed hereinbefore, claiming himself to be a socially conscious citizen and an academic, has failed to comply with the requirements of the Allahabad High Court Rules pertaining to filing of the public interest litigation, which requires several declarations.'
'The petitioner has nowhere indicated as to how and in what manner, he came in possession of the said documents, being a resident of district Deoria as the communication has been issued by the District Basic Education Officer, Maharajganj, a different district. The petitioner apparently has attempted to suppress his credentials,' the bench added.

Claiming that Ayodhya's glory is being restored to that of 'Treta Yuga' and as described during the era of 'Ramayana', Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday inaugurated projects worth Rs 30 crore and laid the foundation stone of projects worth Rs 33 crore at the temple town. Calling Ayodhya the global symbol of 'Atithi Devo Bhava', Adityanath also said, 'The construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya after 500 years is a symbol of the strength of Sanatan Dharma.' 'After a wait of 500 years, on 22nd January 2024, the pran pratishtha of Shri Ram Lalla was performed with great devotion by Prime Minister Modi. Today, the consecration of divine idols in the Ram Darbar and Ram Mandir has also been accomplished,' he said. Citing the redevelopment of prominent pilgrimage centres, Adityanath said these temples serve as the spiritual pillars of a new, empowered India, emerging strong and glorious from the roots of Sanatan traditions. Describing Prime Minister Modi as the 'Bhagirath of modern India', he praised the Namami Gange mission, saying the sacred river was once severely polluted due to unscientific and unplanned activities by previous governments. Later in the day, the chief minister participated in Saryu Jayanti Mahotsava, where he asked all the district magistrates to ensure that they revive at least one river in their respective regions, including Ayodhya. 'Since 2014, the river has been rejuvenated. Over 66 crore devotees witnessed the purity of the Ganga during the Kumbh in Prayagraj.' On World Environment Day, Adityanath promoted the 'Ek Ped Maa ke Naam' (One Tree in Mother's Name) campaign launched by the prime minister. 'If everyone plants a tree in their mother's name, we will never face an environmental crisis,' he said. ‘I don't like women in revealing dresses': MP minister Vijayvargiya makes controversial remark; likens clothing to morality
NEW DELHI: In a bizarre remark, Madhya Pradesh minister and senior leader on Thursday claimed that he "doesn't like women who wear revealing clothes" and that he refuses to take photos with them. 'But, in some other countries, women who wear less clothes are often considered to be fashionable similarly politicians who give fewer speeches are good. This is a saying in other countries, I don't believe in this. I view women as goddesses, and they should wear good clothes. I don't like women or girls who wear revealing clothes, to the point where I refuse to take photos with them. ' Not the first time This is not the first time that Vijayvargiya has commented on the dressing choices of women. In 2024, Vijayvargiya had received widespread criticism for comparing women in 'bad dresses' to Shurpanakha – a demoness from the Ramayana. That earlier statement, made at a religious gathering in Indore, had sparked furious responses from across the political spectrum. 'We see goddess in women. But (with) the kind of bad dresses the girls wear and move around, they do not embody goddesses but look like Shurpanakha,' he had said. 'God has given you a good and beautiful body… dress well, friends.' Opposition leaders had slammed Vijayvargiya then saying, 'Are we living under Talibani rule that the government will tell women what to wear, what to eat and whom to meet?' asked All India Mahila Congress chief Netta D'Souza. She also questioned the 'silence' of Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate had accused the BJP of harbouring a disrespectful attitude towards women. Barwani transport officer, RTO agent booked on bribery charges
Barwani: Indore-based Lokayukta police on Wednesday booked a district transport officer and an RTO agent on charges of bribery. Lokayukta police inspector Pratibha Tomar told mediapersons on Wednesday evening, "We booked district transport officer Reena Kirade and RTO agent Vivek Maltare under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Amendment Act and 61 (2) of BSA. Acting on a complaint from RTO agent Chetan Sharma, we caught another RTO agent, Vivek Maltare, red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 in Anjad town of Barwani district." Tomar said that Chetan Sharma had applications pending for issuing and renewing licences for some people and to clear these applications, Barwani's district transport officer (ARTO) Reena Kirade and agent Vivek Maltare were demanding Rs 30,000 from him. Sharma made a complaint to the superintendent of police of Lokayukta Police, she added.
