UAE serves as model in advancing women's leadership

The UAE has developed a comprehensive framework for women's empowerment, adopting a systematic approach to address challenges, expand opportunities and prepare women for leadership across multiple sectors. These efforts have strengthened the country's competitiveness regionally and globally. National entities, such as the UAE Gender Balance Council and Dubai Women Establishment, have contributed significantly to developing Emirati women's leadership capacities and facilitating their advancement to senior posts in both the public and private sectors, in cooperation with leading international organisations. Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Mouza Mohammed Al Ghuwais Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the UAE Gender Balance Council, said that the Council is intensifying efforts to increase women's participation in the private sector and raise their representation in leadership positions. This, she said, is being achieved through strategies and initiatives aimed at creating inclusive and balanced workplaces, in partnership with strategic stakeholders from both public and private sectors. She highlighted that a number of national and international companies operating in the UAE have joined the 'SDG 5 Pledge to Accelerate Women's Leadership in the UAE Private Sector'. These companies have voluntarily committed to raising women's representation in middle and senior management roles to at least 30 percent by 2025 for the first group, and by 2028 for the second group of companies that have recently joined the initiative. The UAE Gender Balance Council Strategy 2026 aims to further reduce the gender gap across all sectors, enhance the UAE's ranking in global competitiveness reports on gender equality and achieve gender balance in decision-making positions, as well as promote the UAE's status as a benchmark for gender balance legislation. In this context, the UAE ranked first regionally and 13th globally in the 2025 Gender Inequality Index published by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Naeema Ahli, CEO of Dubai Women Establishment, said that advancing Emirati women's leadership remains one of the organisation's key priorities. She noted that the Establishment continues to design and implement advanced training programmes to build leadership skills for women across sectors, while also preparing them for senior roles in international organisations through specialised programmes developed with global institutions and universities with expertise in executive and leadership education. She added that these programmes aim not only to provide women with modern leadership knowledge and skills, but also to strengthen their understanding of leadership dynamics in changing work environments and build their confidence in decision-making roles.

Knowledge RevolutionDr. Al-Ali emphasised that there is a broad consensus among world governments on the pivotal role of youth in advancing both development and awareness. He noted that the media serves as a vital tool in winning both battles by producing creative content that not only supports national aspirations and goals but also keeps pace with the ongoing knowledge and technological revolution. Crucially, Al-Ali stressed, this vision cannot be realised without the active participation and direct contributions of young pointed out that the world is currently undergoing profound and rapid transformations in content creation, led by the AI revolution. AI, he said, is now shaping the future of the world and presents enormous opportunities and challenges for the media industry. This is especially true given the exponential growth in AI-driven media and content production tools, which have sparked fierce competition, not only between humans and machines, but also among institutions competing over how extensively they integrate AI tools into their operations. This, in turn, affects how effectively these institutions meet their objectives in terms of audience reach, influence, and Al-Ali went on to say that these developments are deepening the connection between media and the business sector, transforming media investment into a highly strategic and complex undertaking. He underlined that the media's growing entanglement with national security and social stability has made it more important than ever, particularly amid concerns over the potential misuse of AI in media and content creation. Such misuse, he warned, could negatively affect collective awareness and facilitate the spread of false and misleading information. Innovation in MediaSaqer Al-Suwaidi, researcher, official spokesperson for TRENDS Research & Advisory, and member of the TRENDS Youth Council Advisory Board, participated in the plenary session of the Arab Youth Media Creativity Summit 2025. He remarked that the summit's theme, "Innovative Media… Pioneering Work", reflects not only a slogan but a mindset and work ethic embraced by the UAE. Media innovation, he said, is a catalyst for creative ideas, transforming knowledge into a force that drives development and shapes the future. Al-Suwaidi noted that the media landscape in the UAE has evolved from ink to intelligence and structured digitalisation. Media institutions have transitioned to digital platforms and smart applications, all within a flexible legislative framework that upholds credibility and responsibility. Today, in the era of smart media, AI has become a central component in news production, tool development, and the reshaping of roles and required emphasised that this transformation brings with it significant challenges for innovative media capable of producing impactful work, including deepfakes, the rise of news bubbles, diminishing depth of knowledge, and the lack of ethical frameworks and intellectual property protections governing AI use. In this context, TRENDS Research & Advisory stands out as a pioneering model in bridging scientific research and media practice. The centre not only produces in-depth studies but also transforms research-based knowledge into credible media content, acting as a knowledge bridge between think tanks and media platforms. Practical Recommendations During the Summit's plenary session, Al-Suwaidi presented three practical recommendations to advance innovative media. First, he called for the establishment of an AI ethical governance framework in the media to set clear guidelines for the use of emerging technologies and hold platforms accountable through transparency and responsibility. Second, he stressed the importance of training media professionals in prompt engineering and understanding data biases. Third, he urged stronger partnerships between think tanks and media outlets to ensure that media content is grounded in reliable data and in-depth analysis. Al-Suwaidi concluded by stating that the UAE's media journey from ink to intelligence is not merely a tale of technological advancement, but a reflection of strategic foresight and future-oriented vision. It is a recognition that when media is rooted in research and knowledge, and guided by ethical values, it becomes a powerful soft force that safeguards national identity and drives innovation toward meaningful, transformative achievements in both the present and the future. US Leads Greenfield FDI in Saudi Arabia for 2025

The United States has emerged as the dominant force in greenfield foreign direct investment in Saudi Arabia for the first half of 2025. Accounting for 61 projects with a combined value of $2.7 billion, American investments represented nearly a third of the total project count and capital investment during the period, according to a report by Emirates NBD. Saudi Arabia continues to be an attractive destination for global investors, benefiting from its Vision 2030 reform programme, which aims to diversify the economy away from oil dependency. This strategy has driven significant foreign capital into various sectors, from real estate to technology and infrastructure. The U. S. has capitalised on this with robust participation, reaffirming its growing stake in the Kingdom's economic transformation. A key driver behind the U. S. investment surge is the Kingdom's large-scale infrastructure projects and its push for technological advancement. As part of the Vision 2030 plan, Saudi Arabia has been encouraging the development of smart cities, green technologies, and renewable energy solutions. Many American companies have seized opportunities in these sectors, contributing to the sharp rise in greenfield FDI from the U. S. ADVERTISEMENT The substantial $2.7 billion investment from the U. S. follows a pattern of rising interest from American businesses looking to establish a foothold in the Middle East's largest economy. Companies from various industries, including construction, energy, technology, and healthcare, have been particularly active, attracted by the government's incentives and the Kingdom's ambition to position itself as a global business hub. Egypt ranks second in terms of capital investment into Saudi Arabia, contributing $1.81 billion through 11 projects. These investments are primarily focused on the real estate sector, with major developments pushing the capital inflow. The surge in real estate development aligns with Saudi Arabia's plans to expand its residential and commercial infrastructure to accommodate its growing population and the influx of foreign workers. China has also played a significant role, contributing $858.3 million in greenfield FDI across 11 projects. Despite a smaller share of the total, China's investments are noteworthy, with Chinese firms increasingly involved in sectors such as construction, renewable energy, and technology. This continued engagement highlights China's ongoing strategic interest in the Middle East, especially as it seeks to expand its Belt and Road Initiative projects in the region. France's contributions have been slightly more modest, with $771.7 million invested across six projects. French businesses have targeted sectors such as luxury goods, healthcare, and technology, with an eye on capitalising on Saudi Arabia's growing consumer market. France's involvement further signals the diverse range of global powers interested in the Kingdom's long-term economic growth. The UAE, a close regional partner to Saudi Arabia, also made notable contributions. UAE investors were involved in 25 projects worth $205.3 million. While this is a smaller share compared to other countries, the UAE's investments are still substantial, reflecting its desire to strengthen its economic presence in the region. These ventures span multiple sectors, including construction, hospitality, and financial services, areas where UAE-based firms have established themselves as leaders. Saudi Arabia's economic diversification strategy appears to be paying off, with global investors increasingly attracted to the Kingdom's business-friendly environment and long-term growth prospects. Greenfield FDI, which typically involves setting up new businesses or expanding existing operations, is seen as a strong indicator of foreign confidence in the local economy. The surge in investment projects is a testament to the effectiveness of Vision 2030 policies in reshaping Saudi Arabia's economic landscape. One of the factors behind Saudi Arabia's successful draw of greenfield FDI is the significant improvement in its business climate. Efforts to streamline regulations, enhance legal frameworks, and incentivise foreign investments have played a crucial role. Furthermore, the development of special economic zones and the introduction of regulatory reforms have made it easier for international firms to establish operations.
