Indiana's Maddie May maintains lead after second round at 2025 Golfweek Hoosier Amateur

USA Today30-07-2025
There has been a familiar face on top of the leaderboard the first two days of the Golfweek Hoosier Amateur: Maddie May.
The redshirt junior at Indiana remains in pole position after 36 holes at the Pfau Course in Bloomington, May's home course on the Indiana women's golf team. She followed up her tournament-record 67 on Tuesday with a 2-over 73 on Wednesday, but her lead remains the same: five shots.
A day after turning in 4-under 32, May had a 40 on the front nine with a pair of bogeys and a double, but she bounced back strong on the back nine with a pair of birdies. She sits at 2 under for the tournament, five ahead of Nicole Johnson, a rising junior at Middle Tennessee State.
Golfweek Hoosier Amateur: Scores
Only one player, Mia Raines, shot even par on Wednesday, with most of the scores in the mid-70s. Catherine Qui, who was in the final group Wednesday, is at 4 over and six back of May and will play alongside the leader again during Thursday's final round.

Sparks coach on latest sex toy incident: 'It's stupid'

Members of the Los Angeles Sparks responded after the latest incident on a WNBA court. View more Video Transcript Wondering, like, what was your reaction? What do you think about this happening across the league? I'm going to steal that question. I, I think it's ridiculous. It's down. It's, it's stupid. Um, you know, we, we take our, it's also dangerous, and, you know, player safety is number one, respecting the game, all those things. I think it's really stupid. Um, yeah, that's all I'm gonna say. I thought, too, we did a great job. Indiana included, just playing off, like, don't give it any attention. And the refs, I really appreciated them, too. It was just like, hey, let's go. Close

Sophie Cunningham clarifies her tweet about throwing dildos during WNBA games: "If that smacks someone in the face, you know it's going to be plastered everywhere"

Sophie Cunningham clarifies her tweet about throwing dildos during WNBA games: "If that smacks someone in the face, you know it's going to be plastered everywhere" originally appeared on Basketball Network. Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham went viral after she was one of the first WNBA players to react to the second dildo-throwing incident in the association last week. In her NSFW tweet, Sophie asked fans to stop throwing dildos on WNBA courts because it could hurt someone. Most people took it literally because that was how the other players reacted to the incident. However, during the second episode of her "Show Me Something" podcast, Sophie said she was talking about a "different" kind of hurt. "It's funny. Don't get me wrong. It's hilarious. But then I tweeted, I was lowkey joking, and I think people were like I was joking but serious, like more joking than serious. I wasn't even thinking about my ankles. I was thinking about like, if someone threw that thing and like first of all, the bounce that thing had, if that smacked someone in the face, that's going to be plastered everywhere," Cunningham explained. Two dildo-throwing incidents last week in the WNBA It was Tuesday of last week when the WNBA community was stunned when a fan threw a green-colored dildo on the court while the game between the Golden State Valkyries and Atlanta Dream was underway in Atlanta. And just when everyone thought that it was an isolated incident, it happened again three days later. This time around, it happened in the Windy City during a game between the Chicago Sky and the, well, Golden State Valkyries. But not only was the same team involved, the same color of the sex toy was thrown on the court while the ball was in play. Fortunately, both times, the dildo landed in a spot where there were no players around. So luckily, as Sophie thinks, no one got hurt physically or otherwise. "I just know that if things go viral now," she continued. "And I just know if that thing, like even came from the rafters or bounced and slapped me in the face, that would be what I would be known for, for life. So I was just trying to protect all of our images. And yeah, break a fu—ng nose, what the hell?" The first dildo-thrower was arrested Fortunately for Sophie, she or the other players in the WNBA might not have to worry about a similar incident again. That's because police arrested 23-year-old Delbert Carver last Saturday after he was identified as the man who threw the first dildo in Atlanta. Carver was charged with disorderly conduct and public indecency. He spent the night in jail before he was released the following day after posting a bail bond. The WNBA also suspended him from attending any game for at least one season. "The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league. Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans," the WNBA wrote in its statement. "In line with WNBA Arena Security Standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities." According to a police affidavit, Carver claimed it was meant as a joke he hoped would go viral. But if it had connected the way Sophie described, it could've easily turned that player into one of the most embarrassing sports memes ever. Imagine if someone's phone captured the dildo next to your face. That hurts, probably even more than an ankle story was originally reported by Basketball Network on Aug 6, 2025, where it first appeared.
