Shivangi Joshi's 5 Most Iconic Roles Ranked: From Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai to Balika Vadhu 2
Shivangi Joshi is among the most-loved female actors in the Hindi Television industry. She has several roles to her credit but it was her character, Naira from Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai that made her a household name. Shivangi has captured the hearts of her fans and has earned a loyal fanbase by essaying a variety of roles over the years. On this special occasion of her 27th birthday on Sunday, May 18, Pinkvilla ranks some of her most iconic roles. Let's take a look:
1. Naira Singhania Goenka: Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (2016–2021)
The character of Naira from Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai defined her career. Her character came like a breath of fresh air, who balanced tradition with independence, and this helped her connect with viewers across generations. From family drama, romance, strength, and vulnerability - she possessed all. Her bridal entry scene in the show remains etched in the hearts of her fans, and she became the soul of the show, alongside Mohsin Khan. Their chemistry was widely appreciated, to the extent that fans are still in the hope of their reunion on the screen.
2. Aradhana Radhi Sahni: Barsatein – Mausam Pyaar Ka (2023–2024)
In Barsatein – Mausam Pyaar Ka, Shivangi took up a challenging and more mature role, where she played the emotionally layered Aradhana. This show focused on modern-day relationships, heartbreak, and healing where Shivangi delivered a nuanced performance. While this series was appreciated for its fresh storytelling, it also highlighted her sizzling chemistry with her co-actor Kushal Tandon. The duo is rumored to be dating each other.
Here's an exclusive video of Shivangi Joshi and Kushal Tandon's first interview together:
3. Anandi: Balika Vadhu 2 (2021–2022)
After leaving a strong impact on the audience with Naira's character, taking up an equally solid role for her next project became extremely important for her. Hence, she took up the character of Anandi in the reboot of the evergreen show, Balika Vadhu. Taking up this role wasn't an easy task for Shivangi but unfortunately, the reboot didn't enjoy the same success as the original season, and it eventually went off-air. However, Shivangi's portrayal of a modern and kind-hearted college-going Anandi made her likable.
4. Poonam Kumari – Begusarai (2015–2016)
Before Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Shivangi played the role of Poonam Kumari in Begusarai, alongside Shweta Tiwari. This laid the foundation for Shivangi to prove herself as a capable actor, in which she succeeded. Her powerhouse performance in this show won hearts. She still maintains a close bond with her co-actor Shweta Tiwari.
Here's an exclusive video of Shivangi narrating her life's journey:
5. Aayat Malik: Beintehaa (2013)
Beintehaa marked the debut of Shivangi Joshi on television, where she played Aayat Malik. This was relatively a small role but the audience saw glimpses of her potential in this show, and she never looked back
Pinkvilla wishes a very happy birthday to Shivangi Joshi.

Gul Panag on all things gold! Says her husband has always surprised her with the yellow metal as a gift
Gul Panag At a recent event Gul Panag was seen flaunting aviation inspired jewellry. The actress loves gems and jewels but she's drawn towards more wearable pieces. She tells us, 'I've always been drawn to jewellery that's wearable—pieces that don't just sit in a locker but actually become part of your everyday or personal style. For me, the value of jewellery comes from how seamlessly it can be worn, how it fits into your life rather than just symbolising it.' The actress who's a pilot, was enamoured seeing pieces inspired by runway and became a part of the Runway Collection launch. She said, 'As a pilot, seeing a collection that draws inspiration from aviation—necklaces, brooches, even watch charms designed around the concept of flying—felt very personal. There's something special about jewellery that speaks to your passions.' Ask her about her inclination towards gold, and the Dor actress says, 'Gold has always been a part of my life, but I wouldn't say I'm rigid about it. I also respect what gold has represented over the years, especially in Indian households—stability, tradition, even empowerment. I started working at 20, and I remember one of my first big purchases was gold in 2002. It was Rupees 3,500 for 10 grams back then. I bought a pair of earrings for Rupees 25,000. Every year, especially around Dhanteras, I'd buy something—small or big. It was my way of slowly building something valuable and meaningful.' The one person who's surprsing her with gold is her husband Nihal. 'He's firmly in the gold camp. He's been buying me gold for 20 years (since the time he has been her boyfriend). That's his thing. Birthdays, anniversaries—any occasion, and it's always gold. He sees it as a smart investment and, honestly, he's not wrong.' One of the most special pieces she owns is a polki navratan bajubandh—an armlet that was gifted to her by her parents at her wedding. 'It has a large polki in the centre surrounded by nine precious stones. It's striking, traditional, and one of my most treasured pieces—not just because of how it looks, but because of the emotion and memory attached to it,' she said. Deepika Padukone's ‘Spirit' fallout impact her role in ‘Kalki 2'?
The controversy surrounding Deepika Padukone 's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga 's 'Spirit' is now believed to be affecting her involvement in another major Prabhas-starrer, 'Kalki 2'. Deepika, who had a short but pivotal role in 'Kalki 2898 AD', was expected to return in a much more prominent capacity in the sequel. Director Nag Ashwin has reportedly developed a deeper, meatier arc for her character in 'Kalki 2', one that is central to the storyline. However, the Telugu 360 website reports that Deepika's firm stance on work conditions and scheduling is causing delays in locking her for the second part. Report suggests that despite losing 'Spirit' over similar demands, Deepika is maintaining the same approach, including strict working hours and detailed date coordination. This has left the 'Kalki' team in a dilemma, with rumours surfacing that the makers may explore recasting options if a compromise isn't reached. Fallout from 'Spirit': What Went Wrong? Deepika's professional relationship with Sandeep Reddy Vanga reportedly soured over differences related to work conditions and remuneration. Sources claim she demanded Rs 25 crore and a 10% profit share for 'Spirit', along with a strict 8-hour workday – a clause reportedly tied to her recent motherhood. These demands allegedly led to her being replaced by Triptii Dimri. The fallout went public when Sandeep took indirect digs on social media, adding fuel to the already burning debate. Industry Divided Over Demands This has stirred a broader conversation in the industry around work-life balance, especially for women returning to sets post-maternity. While some have criticized Deepika's terms as excessive, others, including Mani Ratnam and Pankaj Tripathi , have voiced support for fair working hours. Akshay Oberoi says Bollywood doesn't acknowledge the love from the queer community
Akshay Oberoi is a staunch supporter of the LGBTQ+ community and believes that the Hindi film industry fails to adequately recognise its presence within the audience. With June being Pride Month, the actor strongly urges the film industry to make the queer community feel more heard and seen. The actor recognised the affection that the queer community expresses towards films and web series after portraying a closeted gay character, Rohit Shanbagh, in Inside Edge 3. Also Read| Akshay Oberoi on Sky Force-Fighter comparisons: We live in a world where talent… 'Bollywood doesn't acknowledge it, but a lot of the love we get from the queer community. As someone who truly values love and identity in all forms, I've never been bothered about the sexuality of my characters. For me, it's about telling human stories, and every human deserves to be seen,' says Akshay. The 40-year-old, who is currently working on actor Yash's pan-India film Toxic, reflects on his experience playing Rohit. 'It was overwhelming and fulfilling to step into a role that carried so much internal conflict and courage. It's easy to play parts that fall into the typical hero template. But when you get to play a character that challenges societal norms, you grow not just as an actor but as a person.'
