From print press to powerhouse: Reimagining industrial innovation

Khaleej Times20-05-2025
From its origins as United Printing & Publishing, the UAE's e7 Group has undergone a sweeping transformation. Rebranded and refocused, e7 is now an integrated industrial solutions powerhouse, expanding far beyond the printed word into high-tech manufacturing, identity security, logistics, and sustainable packaging. At the centre of this evolution is new management that describes the shift not as a cosmetic overhaul but a structural pivot aligned with the UAE's broader push for industrial self-reliance under the 'Operation 300bn' strategy.
'Our rebranding is not just a facelift — it's representative of how we now deliver value,' says Esteban Gómez Nadal, Group CEO. 'We're pivoting towards being an integrated, solutions-driven company without silos. Our goal is to offer end-to-end expertise that aligns with national priorities and global excellence.'
One company, one brand, 40+ solutions
e7's ambition is to eliminate the friction often encountered when working across fragmented vendors. From printing secure identity documents and personalised banking cards to supplying inflight magazines and educational content, e7 offers over 40 tailored solutions across five core verticals. 'The strategy is to provide one reliable partner from design to execution,' explains Gómez Nadal.
A standout example is e7's work with regional banks: 'We print your credit card, the accompanying letter, the marketing material, package it all with innovative designs, and deliver it straight to your door.' In the education sector, e7 offers a one-stop suite that spans textbooks, digital learning tools, and school operations systems. For airlines, it delivers custom-designed onboard packaging and entertainment material. 'Clients love that they can rely on one partner to elevate their brand experience,' says Gómez Nadal.
Going global, one passport at a time
A cornerstone of e7's growth is its prowess in secure identity solutions. With more than 10 industry-leading certifications and long-term contracts with governments in the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa, the company is becoming a serious contender in the global security printing space.
Its recent framework agreement with the Rwandan government exemplifies its strategic direction — delivering a full suite of identity solutions while establishing an advanced local manufacturing facility. 'This is how we plan to grow,' Gómez Nadal notes. 'First, by expanding the reach of our core offerings — passports, ID cards, tax stamps—and second, by becoming a full-fledged digital identity player through partnerships and acquisitions.'
With over one billion people worldwide still lacking formal identity documents, and governments increasingly digitising their ID infrastructure, e7 is targeting a sector with high barriers to entry and long-term growth potential.
Investing in sustainability, and returns
Sustainability is not a sideshow. 'It's a core tenet of our strategy,' says Gómez Nadal. e7 has launched an ESG roadmap backed by annual audits, board oversight, and aggressive decarbonisation goals. Over 70% of paper used in its commercial printing comes from recycled sources; its packaging arm relies on FSC-certified board; and eco-certified banking cards reflect its green commitments.
Social initiatives are equally prioritised. Emiratisation, gender diversity, and workforce welfare are core KPIs, alongside university partnerships aimed at upskilling the next generation of industrial talent. 'We view sustainability in its broadest sense — environmental, social and governance — and that's embedded in how we operate daily,' Gómez Nadal affirms.
Delivering on the 'Operation 300bn'
e7's transformation dovetails with the UAE's ambition to boost its industrial GDP to Dh300 billion by 2031. The group supports this goal on multiple fronts: investing in high-tech infrastructure, developing local talent, promoting in-country value, and reducing dependency on imports.
'Our packaging business grew 80% last year,' says Gómez Nadal, pointing to e7's success in aligning national industrial goals with private sector growth. With geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions redrawing the global logistics map, the company has built a resilient network of supplier partnerships across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, enabling it to balance localisation with cost efficiency.
Digital tax stamps and the next frontier
In 2025, e7 will enter the digital tax stamps market, backed by a Dh182 million investment to also scale its passport manufacturing fivefold. This move positions the company at the heart of a high-growth sector that tackles global issues such as illicit trade and tax evasion. With over 90 countries already deploying tax stamps on excisable goods, e7's move is both timely and strategic.
'The numbers are staggering,' Gómez Nadal says. 'An estimated $2 trillion is lost annually in counterfeiting and pirated goods. Our technology can help governments recover revenue, protect brands, and safeguard consumers.'
A financially fit, dividend-delivering company
In 2024, e7 reported a net profit before tax of Dh256.7 million, driven by 11% year-on-year revenue growth and a booming packaging segment. Over 70% of its revenue is recurring, underpinned by long-term contracts that offer high visibility and stability.
To mark its strong financial performance, e7 announced a maiden dividend of Dh147.1 million, equivalent to 70% of distributable net profit—well above its minimum payout commitment. The move signals confidence in both its balance sheet and growth outlook.
'Our return on investment isn't just financial,' Gómez Nadal explains. 'We evaluate partnerships and acquisitions based on strategic fit, innovation potential, ESG alignment and cultural compatibility.'

CPA Australia proposes policy ideas to support Hong Kong's long-term competitiveness

HONG KONG SAR - Media OutReach Newswire – 21 August 2025 - As Hong Kong continues to navigate global economic shifts and rapid technological transformation, CPA Australia has today submitted a series of recommendations to the Hong Kong Government for the Policy Address 2025 consultation. As one of the world's largest professional accounting bodies, CPA Australia has outlined proposed measures across five key areas: Reinforcing Hong Kong's role as an international financial centre Developing Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology (I&T) hub Promoting environmental, social and governance (ESG) and the green economy Diversifying the economy Developing, attracting and retaining talent. Ms Karina Wong, Divisional President of CPA Australia in Greater China 2025, said: "Amid the uncertainties created by trade frictions with major economies, Hong Kong has demonstrated its unique advantages as a strategic gateway connecting mainland China and the world. We need to amplify our competitiveness to secure the city's long-term economic vitality, for example, the free port status and unrivalled business environment." CPA Australia recommends the HKSAR Government considers introducing a Qualified Refundable Tax Credit (QRTC) scheme for multi-national enterprises in the maritime services and commodity trading sectors. A QRTC provides a more flexible and effective incentive structure that can help to boost these sectors. "A QRTC would allow Hong Kong to better compete for multinational investment and reinforce its position as a premier international trade centre and shipping centre," Ms Wong said. "We also propose expanding the scope of the half-rate tax concessionary regime for commodity trading to include the captive commodities traders serving group companies outside Hong Kong and include the financial commodity transactions, such as derivatives trading." Low-altitude economy is another area that CPA Australia supports to diversify the economy, for its potential to transform logistics, mobility, and urban planning. Ms Wong added: "Hong Kong can lead in low-altitude innovation by establishing demonstration zones, collaborating with the Greater Bay Area on cross-border channels, and attracting global talent to this emerging sector. With strong research capabilities and a growing commitment to innovation and technology implementation – evidenced by the establishment of government-led Regulatory Sandbox pilot projects, Hong Kong is well-positioned to translate innovation into practical applications." An efficient and effective government process to deliver public services, and a green environment for sustainable development are crucial factors to do business, as well as to attract enterprises and investments to Hong Kong. Therefore, CPA Australia proposes a suite of initiatives including the promotion of a robust e-government framework. Mr Cyrus Cheung, Deputy Divisional President of CPA Australia in Greater China 2025 said: "We suggest the Government considers modernising operations and implements a 'tell us once' compliance model for individual and business data access in a secure and convenient manner. For example, we propose introducing legislation to allow data sharing across relevant and approved government agencies, and to establish an integrated platform that enhances data management across governmental departments. To simplify the processes of public services, we also suggest the Government reduces its reliance on in-person authentication where appropriate, and consolidates government services onto a single platform, such as iAM Smart, which allows online authentication across different services." Mr Cheung also emphasised the importance of sustainable development in shaping Hong Kong's future. He called for better alignment of the Hong Kong Taxonomy for Sustainable Finance with the international standards to attract investment in green projects. "Energy policy is core in our sustainability goals. The taxonomy should reflect the role of various forms of low-carbon energy in supporting Hong Kong's transition to a net-zero economy," he said. "We also encourage the government to develop a standardised carbon trading framework and explore the Carbon Connect initiative to strengthen Hong Kong's leadership position in green finance." Hong Kong's sound financial system and free flow of capital continue to underpin strong investment inflows, and the city is poised to return to its position as the world's top IPO market in 2025, Mr Kelvin Leung, Deputy Divisional President of CPA Australia in Greater China 2025, said. "Despite global uncertainties and trade tensions, Hong Kong's capital market remained resilient, drawing more family offices to setup in the city and reinforcing its role as a preferred venue for fund raisings. "Investors choose Hong Kong for investment and wealth management because we are globally connected, rule-of-law based and responsive to market needs. We should be more proactive in promoting Hong Kong as a dual listing destination for overseas companies, and we encourage the Government and relevant regulators to explore the feasibility of an "IPO Connect" mechanism, to meet growing mainland investor demand for access to global assets." To increase private market liquidity, CPA Australia suggests piloting an intermittent trading facility for private companies in a controlled environment. "This would offer growth-stage companies a stepping stone toward future public listings, supported by clear eligibility, proportionate disclosure and robust settlement safeguards,," Leung said. Mr Leung also highlighted opportunities in digital assets, "It is a notable step for Hong Kong to launch the 'LEAP' framework to develop a trusted and innovative digital-assets ecosystem. We welcome the Government's move to promote the responsible expansion of stablecoins under a fit-for-purpose regulatory regime. The Government should also consider a clear roadmap for real-world asset (RWA) tokenisation that balances innovation with strong investor protection." CPA Australia has also proposed recommendations on strengthening SME cybersecurity such as to launch a CyberSafe SME Subsidy Programme and introduce a CyberSafe HK certification. We also suggest initiatives such as increasing maternity and paternity leave similar to other developed economies, to attract and retain talent. E7 Group offers to buy all outstanding warrants at Dh2.40 each

20 Aug 2025 13:34 A. SREENIVASA REDDY (ABU DHABI)E7 Group, a public joint stock company listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX), has launched a voluntary cash offer to acquire all of its outstanding warrants at a price of Dh2.40 per warrant. A circular to this effect was posted on the website of ADX. The warrants were originally issued in May 2022 as part of the company's initial public offering, and the offer period runs from August 20 until October 20, 2025. Warrants are financial instruments that entitle holders to purchase shares of a company at a fixed price within a certain timeframe. In the case of E7 Group, each warrant gives the right to buy ten shares at a price of Dh1.15 per share. However, if not exercised, these warrants will automatically expire and become worthless at 5pm on December 6, 2026, three years after the completion of the company's business company's board explained that the buyback is designed to provide warrant holders with immediate and certain value, eliminating the risk of holding an instrument subject to market volatility or the possibility of expiring without present, there are 22,937,500 outstanding warrants. The offer price of Dh2.40 compares favourably with the company's stated right, after the current period ends, to still purchase untendered warrants at a substantially reduced price not exceeding seventy-five fils per warrant.E7 Group stressed that the proposal is in the best interests of investors, as it not only delivers cash value but also simplifies its capital structure and enhances transparency, which the board said would strengthen the company's profile and support future share value. Having considered the prevailing market conditions and the financial terms of the proposal, the board unanimously recommended that all warrant holders accept the offer by submitting sell orders before the closing board also confirmed that the company will finance the offer entirely from its existing cash resources and voluntary reserves, in line with Article 242 of the Companies Law and a resolution of its general assembly that permits the transfer of amounts from the share premium account into voluntary reserves to fund warrant repurchases. For the execution of the offer, E7 Group has appointed International Securities to act on its behalf in receiving sell orders and settling cash considerations. Cash payments to warrant holders who accept will be made within two business days after completion of the relevant holders retain the right, should they choose not to accept the current offer, to hold their instruments and exercise them before the expiry date to purchase shares at the set the company has underlined that this involves the risk of the warrants becoming valueless in December 2026. By contrast, the present cash offer of Dh2.40 provides certainty of return, which the company believes is fair and compelling under current market circumstances. E7 Group is a leading business in security solutions, commercial printing, packaging, logistics, and fulfilment in the UAE, and is valued at Dh 3.23 billion based on its current share price.
