Kindergarten students get surprise splash from Midland Fire Department
Laughter echoed from the playground at Bayview Public School in Midland, Ont., as kindergarten students ran through water provided by the Midland Fire Department. (Town of Midland) With temperatures nearing 40C, firefighters in North Simcoe took the time to help local youngsters cool off. On Monday morning, laughter echoed from the playground at Bayview Public School in Midland as kindergarten students ran through water provided by the Midland Fire Department. 'With the weather being incredibly hot, and requests made by the students, the crew decided to spray some water so the kids could have fun and cool down,' shared Richard Renaud, fire chief with the Town of Penetanguishene. Fire crews say they were at the school in the morning for a planned year-end public display. But with the extreme heatwave and a few enthusiastic requests from students, the fire captain made a last-minute call to turn on the truck's hose offering a much-needed cool down and a lot of excitement for the children. 'A great way to cool off and finish some public education for kindergarten kiddos in the Town of Midland,' shared the Midland Fire Department team in a social media post. What started as an educational visit became a memorable moment for the young students who played under the refreshing, cool mist. Quite the way to splash into the start of summer break. Fire officials praised the spontaneous last minute call. 'It was an impromptu decision by the captain which I hold heartily support,' Renaud said to CTV News.
