A_RESTAURANT The omakase at A_Restaurant takes inspiration from Western musical structure: intro, interlude, verse, bridge, chorus, solo and outro. At the chef's table, which seats just six, diners are treated to courses such as hassun, a traditional kaiseki course akin to an amuse bouche, alongside playful creations of local fish, wagyu beef, a sushi course and inventive desserts prepared in front of you by the chef patissier. FIVE – Grill & Lounge Located inside the Hyatt Centric Kanazawa, just steps from the Shinkansen station, FIVE serves globally inspired cuisine rooted in Hokuriku ingredients. Both prix fixe and à la carte menus are available, with dishes such as noto pork pâté de campagne with pickled cucumber karashina mustard, Kanazawa brown rice, Kanazawa yuzu kosho and corn crème brûlée. For lunch, afternoon tea features bites like peach shortcake, panna cotta with peach and verbena jelly, and deep-fried camembert cheese, all paired with regional sake, wine and cocktails. Traditional sweets from the famed Morihachi confectionery are served in custom-made matcha bowls of Ohiyaki pottery. A highlight is the café's anmitsu, a summertime dessert with kanten jelly, fruits and red bean paste, paired with matcha-flavored warabi mochi, all topped with gold leaf from Hakuichi. Guests can also take part in a traditional gold leaf kinpaku workshop by HAKUICHI. Kanazawa produces 99 percent of Japan's gold leaf, and visitors can create souvenirs such as a gilded plate, Japanese jewelry box or hand mirror. Omicho Market Known as Kanazawa's kitchen, this bustling market has over 170 stalls and has operated since the Edo period. Valiant's Bloodshot Relaunch Mired by Transphobic Dogwhistles
Earlier this week, comic book publisher Valiant continued its recent 'Beyond' reboot with Bloodshot #1. Shortly after its release, readers noted the comic—written by Mauro Mantella with art by Fernando Heinz Furukawa—contained narration that felt like a pointed jab at transgender people. In the panels below from the issue, Bloodshot muses about his struggles against vampires and how the Yakuza have worked with the local government to 'normalize blood consumption, and that's messing with the minds of the younger ones. […] There are kids who want to be bitten to become vampires because their favorite influencer says they're one. And parents who force their children into that irreversible change just to feel modern, and believing that they'll be thankful for it when they grow up.' The character's inner thoughts aren't that dissimilar to how transphobic people seem to think people begin to question their gender identity—the idea that trans people do it for kicks, or that they've been led astray by a particular person online who's spreading the message, particularly when it comes to kids. This thinking and desire to 'protect our children' is what's led to so many anti-trans laws in the United States that prevent gender-affirming care, erase transgender people from American culture, and generally try to ensure that they are not allowed to exist in day-to-day public life or are put into incredibly dangerous and life-threatening situations. Comics industry workers soon decried Bloodshot, leading to co-publisher Alien Books and Mantella's apology 'for the harm caused by the phrasing in [the comic]. While the story takes place in a fictional world of vampires and cults, we understand that a specific line of dialogue has been read as alluding to real-world issues, specifically, the discrimination faced by trans people.' 'That was never the intention,' it continues. 'The original line was written by an Argentinian creator and was unfortunately a case of nuance being lost in translation. We fully recognize that intent does not erase impact, especially when dealing with subject matter that affects real lives and communities.' An Update from Alien Books. Online commenters have pointed out that it's possible — in the context of the 'Mario Kart World' universe — that Cow chose to get the nose ring herself. 'How do they know the cow didn't go to a body piercing place to get it? The damn thing knows how to drive so it's not completely… ordinary,' an X user posted Friday about the issue. According to PETA, in a press release about Cow's nose ring that said 'It's-a mean!', the cattle industry uses nose rings as a tool of torment, not a fashion accessory: 'Nose rings are used by the meat and dairy industries to exploit, control and even drag animals to their deaths. These brass rings are crudely stabbed through the sensitive septum of cows and bulls, which can cause lasting pain and discomfort.' It's not the first time PETA has targeted Nintendo. For example, the advocacy group in 2020 criticized the game giant's 'Animal Crossing: New Horizons' for 'encouraging abusive behavior toward fish and insects, where players can tear wildlife out of their homes and display them in cramped cases in a museum.' And in 2017, PETA said Nintendo had 'sold its soul' by partnering with McDonald's to include 'Super Mario' toys in Happy Meals.
