Oh it's thrills you want?
How about this tee shot at the fourth snapped straight left as well? That's both drivers from Rory significantly left of the mark so far. Not a good spot, over there.

You Bez believe it
Strong start to the round for South Africa's Christiaan Bezuidenhout as he rattles off three straight birdies at 5, 6 and 7 to move to three-under-par and one shot off the lead! Could he do something special?
I was chatting to his father yesterday and he was bullish on his son's chances. I'm starting to believe him.

Boring pars at the third
Pitch. Putt. Putt. Rory, JT, Tommy all stay level. A bit monotony never hurt anyone after those first two.

Shane and Scottie
The marquee morning group are finished and it's a good day for Scottie Scheffler, who almost ties the lead with a long-range putt on the 18th but sees it slide just right of the hole and instead has to settle for a par and a three-under 68, which leaves him one shot off the lead.
And it is also a good day for Shane Lowry, a one-under 70 a solid day's work that has him still very much in contention after three birdies and two bogeys! The '2019 defence' off to a good start.
Not so good for Collin Morikawa, though. Five bogeys, four of which came in his final 10 holes, and just one birdie means it's a +4 start for the 2021 champion.

The relief on his face
Rory in for birdie and the crowd are up. He puffs out his cheeks and that was pure, 100% relief, not joy. I've no doubt visions of 2019 were returning in his head after that putt on 1.
JT also gets his bounce back bird and Fleetwood can't get up and down from off the front so makes par.
All three level after two.

One marquee group done
The current Champion Golfer of the Year, Xander Schauffele, begins his defence of the Claret Jug with a level-par 71, which is no bad thing when you consider how up-and-down it was.
Jon Rahm is off to a solid start as he cards a one-under 70 that, bar back-to-back bogeys at 10 and 11, looked very solid and very much enhances his credentials as a contender.
It was a tougher day for US Open champion JJ Spaun, though. He drops three shots in his last four holes and finishes the round with a two-over 73, so he will be fighting to make the cut.

The pitch is good
And a birdie chance. Pitch out was the right play. Honestly, backing off that long iron could be the pivotal point of his whole week, already.

Gareth Hanna
The inner monologue
He was ready to pull the trigger with a long iron then at the last minute steps off it and has the yardage book out. Time to just get back into play. Take a beat, as they'd say on Blue Lights.
Smart play. Wedge back into the fairway. Start the day again from there, mentally.

A roar from 17
And it's not for Scottie Scheffler, it's for Shane Lowry who loops in a rangy putt from 22 feet for the birdie that gets him back into the red at -1!
Could he potentially end the day even better with a birdie on 18? They've been hard to come by.
Stop it Scottie!
Forget trying to catch the leaders, Scheffler almost jumps into a share of the lead as he nearly jars his approach into the par-four 17th, pitching it about 20 feet short and letting it release up to the hole and it shaves the left edge on its way past before stopping a foot beyond the pin!
That's going to be the easiest of tap-in birdies and the World No.1 is ominously on -3 with one hole to play.
Gareth Hanna
Time for calm
He's bashed it straight left off the second, into the gallery. Now it's a par five so he should be able to make this OK. But he needs to settle after that missed three-footer. You worry about the impact of these things when it's Rory. Fleetwood and JT are good.

Adam McKendry
Danish delight
We already have Jacob Skov Olesen in a share of the lead, Nicolai Hojgaard in the clubhouse two back at -2 and now there's another Dane on the charge as John Axelsen birdies 12 and 13 to move to -2, two off the top.
The 27-year-old plays primarily on the HotelPlanner Tour (formerly known as the Challenge Tour) and only qualified through Final Qualifying at Royal Cinque Ports - he's certainly making the most of that invitation.

'Oh Rory'
Rory loops his long putt round the slope and in to three feet but then…. MISSED IT. Leaves himself further away for bogey but at least gets that. Shockwave for a nervous crowd.
Fleetwood two putts for par off back edge but, JT can't tease his own putt from back there down the slope as leaves it 20 foot short, missing the hill altogether. Bogey for Thomas.
(To anyone who saw my brief trigger happy post that he had holed it, I am sorry. Fully scudded him. Fully.)

Scheffler on the move
He's hit an absolute stunner into Calamity, flirting with the chasm but bouncing it up onto the green and up to three feet - and he drains the putt! That's the World No.1 up to -2 and just two back, with the birdie-able par-four 17th coming up!
Unfortunately Sergio Garcia is going the other way as he bogeys the par-four eighth and is back to -2 as well, having been at -3.

And a roar!
Very impressive from McIlroy. We've barely seen anyone make the green from that left rough but he manages to squeeze it on the front edge. A long two-putt and we're away.

Audible relief
There was a physical and collective sigh as Rory's tee shot lands IN BOUNDS. It's in the rough on the left and we know how thick that is. So not ideal. But it's not a reload. So sure look. We move.
Justin Thomas and Tommy Fleetwood safely on the short stuff.
Everyone in Portrush is glad that's over.

Here's Rory
The first cheer for the man himself as the supporters round a packed first tee catch a glimpse of him on his way. This shot is six years in the making. Can he exorcise the ghosts of 2019?

Field Of Gold to skip Juddmonte International Stakes
Field Of Gold will bypass York's Juddmonte International Stakes as he continues his recovery from the setback sustained when suffering a shock defeat at Goodwood last week. John and Thady Gosden's Irish 2,000 Guineas and Royal Ascot hero was discovered to be lame after tasting defeat for just the second time this season in the Sussex Stakes and although there are encouraging signs in his recuperation, a step up to 10 furlongs on the Knavesmire has been ruled out by his team. The son of Kingman will undergo X-rays on Wednesday which will give a clearer indication of the prognosis, with Juddmonte's European racing manager Barry Mahon saying: "The horse is doing well and was back sound, which is good. "He's got a little bit of swelling in his fetlock but John and Thady are much happier with him so the plan is to do the X-ray on Wednesday – they've just pushed it back a day, as the longer you can leave it, the clearer the picture is. "That will give us some more insight and if the X-ray is clear, we can hopefully start back into some light exercise towards the end of the week or early next week. "York though is definitely not going to happen at this stage." Having dazzled when claiming Classic honours in Ireland and scorching to St James's Palace Stakes victory at the Royal meeting, there has been plenty of conversation over whether Field Of Gold will try to repeat those heroics up in trip or continue to be the stand out performer of the year at eight furlongs. The Juddmonte star holds entries in both the Prix du Moulin (ParisLongchamp, 7 September) and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Ascot, 18 October) at a mile later in the campaign, while he could yet test the waters up in distance in Leopardstown's Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes on 13 September. However, the colt's name was notably missing from the entries for the Qipco Champion Stakes over further on the same afternoon as his engagement in the QEII, with race planning currently taking a backseat until one of the season's top performers returns to full fitness. Mahon added: "It was the plan pre-Goodwood to stick at a mile for the time being and obviously there has been no chat about potential races since Goodwood, we're just going to have to let the dust settle and let him get back into exercise and then when he is fit make a plan from there. "You are getting into that time of year when there is not an abundance of opportunities and there is the Moulin, QEII or you go up to a mile and a quarter for the races at that distance. "So I wouldn't say there is a huge amount of options, but we'll just wait and see and let the horse tell us." While the Gosdens might not have Field Of Gold in the Juddmonte International, they still have a very strong contender in Ombudsman. "He won the Prince of Wales's first time in a Group One and showed he's up to that level. The Eclipse, again he ran a very good race, beaten by a top-class three-year-old (Delacroix) coming through," said Thady Gosden. "He's come out of that race well, had a little freshen up and (is) heading to the Juddmonte International hopefully. "He's such a genuine horse, has got the speed required and hopefully can run a good one there. "It's a career-defining race for a lot of horses. If you win the Juddmonte International it certainly means a lot – depth of the field and the quality to it. And then, of course, York's a very fair track; so often the best horse wins and it's something that everyone aspires to."

Paul McGrath shares rare family pic to mark granddaughter's birthday as fans all make the same observation
An Irish celeb was among those bowled over by the fabulous photo THREE GENERATIONS Paul McGrath shares rare family pic to mark granddaughter's birthday as fans all make the same observation PAUL McGrath shared a sweet photo from his granddaughter's birthday - with fans noticing the striking similarity between him and his son Chris. The Irish footy legend has aged incredibly well given he's only a few months short of turning 66 and hitting the pensionable mark. Advertisement 2 McGrath in his pomp while starring at the 1994 World Cup in the US 2 The 65-year-old still looked fit as a fiddle while celebrating in Rosslare's Kelly's Resort Hotel Credit: @paulnumber5 The former Aston Villa and Manchester United defensive rock captioned it: "Celebrating my granddaughter Talia's 15th birthday." A common theme among the replies from his Instagram followers was how his appearance belies his advanced age. In slightly theatrical fashion, Keith asked: "Is that you on the left or right Paul?!" Another social media user extended that sentiment to include Talia. They gushed: "The resemblance is remarkable among the three of you, happy birthday young lady!" Advertisement Finally Maia Dunphy noted: "What a gorgeous photo!! Your son is the image of you!!" The two clubs the centre-back hero is most associated with are actually currently mired in one of the summer's most layered transfer sagas. Villa's star striker Ollie Watkins is ready to step into the void if Man Utd are unable to lure Benjamin Sesko to the club. Newcastle have launched a £78m bid to try to beat United to the Slovenia international, with RB Leipzig now keen to do business with the Toon. Advertisement And there is growing scepticism in Germany that PSR-stricken Man Utd will come in with an offer to compete with Eddie Howe's side, who have the advantage of being able to attract a nine-figure fee for Alexander Isak. SunSport understands that following interest from Arsenal in January, Watkins feels the time is right to leave Villa Park. Fans slam 'utter woke nonsense' as Tottenham star announces bizarre kit number change And his wishes may overlap with Aston Villa's, who also face a battle to keep their summer spending within PSR limits. The Villans were fined by Uefa earlier this summer for breaching the European body's financial rules. Advertisement Unai Emery had been keen to sell the likes of Jacob Ramsey and Leon Bailey to meet the Premier League's requirements, but have yet to receive the interest they had hoped for. As a result, a bid of between £40m and £50m could be enough to prize Watkins from Villa. BONUS OF THE BUY This would also have the bonus of giving United funds to spare to solve their other major problem position - holding midfield. But a move for Watkins is not inevitable if Man Utd are unable to attract Sesko. Advertisement SunSport understands that Ruben Amorim is looking at two strikers playing in his home country of Portugal. Samu Aghehowa scored 27 goals for Porto last season after agreeing a deal with Chelsea which fell through over an ankle injury and image rights. And Benfica's Vangelis Pavlidis, who scored 30 goals last term, made a name for himself in England by scoring twice at Wembley as Greece nabbed a shock 2-1 win against the Three Lions. Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano claims that Juventus have offered Dusan Vlahovic to United if the Red Devils are unable to sign Sesko.

Field Of Gold to miss Juddmonte International at York following Goodwood setback
Field Of Gold will not be participating in York's Juddmonte International Stakes as he continues to recover from a setback experienced during a surprising defeat at Goodwood last week. The Irish 2,000 Guineas and Royal Ascot champion, trained by John and Thady Gosden, was found to be lame after his second defeat of the season in the Sussex Stakes. Despite showing promising signs of recovery, his team has decided against a step up to 10 furlongs on the Knavesmire. The son of Kingman is scheduled for X-rays on Wednesday, which should provide a clearer prognosis. After dazzling victories in the Classic honours in Ireland and the St James's Palace Stakes at the Royal meeting, there has been much speculation about whether Field Of Gold will attempt to replicate these triumphs over a longer distance or continue to shine as the standout performer of the year at eight furlongs. The Juddmonte star is entered in both the Prix du Moulin (ParisLongchamp, September 7) and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Ascot, October 18) at a mile later in the season, while he could yet try his luck over a longer distance in Leopardstown's Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes on September 13. However, the colt's name was conspicuously absent from the entries for the Qipco Champion Stakes over further on the same afternoon as his engagement in the QEII, with race planning currently taking a backseat until one of the season's top performers returns to full fitness. Mahon added: "It was the plan pre-Goodwood to stick at a mile for the time being and obviously there has been no chat about potential races since Goodwood, we're just going to have to let the dust settle and let him get back into exercise and then when he is fit make a plan from there.
