Muslims greet kanwariyas with refreshments on temple route

Time of India4 days ago
Ranchi: As saffron-clad pilgrims marched toward temples on the second Monday of the holy month of
Shravan
, their journey was made smoother by Muslim volunteers who offered them water, medicines, and refreshments along the route.
This annual tradition, now embraced by both communities, is a powerful symbol of unity amidst religious diversity. Volunteers set up stalls at Ranchi's Karbala Chowk, offering water, tea, refreshments, and basic medical aid to tired pilgrims.
Aquilur Rahman, general secretary of the Ranchi Central Muharram Committee, said, "Religion teaches us compassion. We are not just helping Shiva devotees but nurturing our shared heritage of peace. We have been doing this for the past 10 years during Shravan. The
kanwariyas
accept whatever we can provide with utmost gratitude."
A volunteer at the camp, Parvez Alam, said, "Acts like these bridge gaps and foster understanding. Our initiative exemplifies that the communities are in arms both in times of celebration and crisis. We will set up camps on the remaining two Mondays as well. We pray for everyone's well-being."
What stood out was the mutual respect between the communities. Many kanwariyas, surprised yet deeply touched, folded their hands in gratitude and blessed the volunteers. "It's beautiful to see people from different faiths standing together. This is the real India," said a devotee, Vrijesh Pathak.
The initiative also received accolades from several senior administrative officials present at the camp, including Ranchi (City) SP Ajit Kumar, (city) DSP K B Raman, DSP and OC of Lower Bazar PS, Dayanand Kumar.

Rakhi And Sawan Purnima On The Same Day This Year

This year, Sawan Purnima fast will be observed on August 8, while bathing, donation and Rakhi will be celebrated on August 9, as per the timing of the Purnima tithi Sawan Purnima, observed on the full moon day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Shravan, is considered highly auspicious. The day is marked by rituals such as holy bathing, donation, and fasting, all dedicated to Lord Shiva, for whom the month of Shravan is especially dear. This full moon also coincides with the celebration of Rakshabandhan, the cherished festival that symbolises the bond between brothers and sisters. However, this year, the rituals of Sawan Purnima, including the fast and bathing-donation, will fall on different days, while Rakhi will be celebrated on the same day as the bathing and donation ritual. Astrologer Dr Krishna Kumar Bhargava from Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, shares key details about the timings and significance of this sacred day. Sawan Purnima 2025 Date Sawan Purnima Fast The Sawan Purnima fast will be kept on Friday, August 8, as the full moon tithi concludes by noon the next day. The moonrise on this day will take place at 6:42 PM, and this is when devotees should offer Arghya to the moon. Worshipping the moon on Purnima Arghya is an integral part of the fasting ritual, believed to bring peace, virtue, and blessings. Sawan Purnima Bathing And Donation Scriptures emphasise the importance of Udaya Tithi for rituals like bathing and donation. Therefore, when Sawan Purnima fast is observed on August 8, Sawan Purnima bathing and donation will take place on Saturday, August 9. The most auspicious time for this is during Brahma Muhurta, from 4:22 AM to 5:04 AM. Bathing and donating on this day are said to cleanse sins and earn spiritual merit. Rakshabandhan 2025 Date Raksha Bandhan is a day when sisters tie Rakhi to their brothers and pray for their well-being, while brothers promise to protect their sisters. It's a celebration of love, protection, and a lifelong bond. This year, Rakshabandhan also falls on Sawan Purnima, Saturday, August 9. As there is no Bhadra on this day, the festival can be celebrated throughout the day. The most auspicious time to tie Rakhi is between 5:47 AM and 1:24 PM. Auspicious Yogas on Sawan Purnima Three highly auspicious yogas will be formed on this year's Sawan Purnima: These yogas are believed to amplify the spiritual benefits of rituals performed on this day. Rog Panchak on Sawan Purnima Rog Panchak will start at 2:11 AM on August 10 and will last for five days. Although it technically begins on the tithi of Sawan Purnima, there will be no impact on Raksha Bandhan celebrations, which are based on the sunrise-to-sunrise cycle. view comments Location : New Delhi, India, India First Published: July 25, 2025, 11:40 IST News astrology Rakhi And Sawan Purnima On The Same Day This Year | Timings And Rituals Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. ‘Shravan' Begins Today: Special Shivling Initiative At Mankapur Temple

1 2 3 4 Nagpur: The holy month of Shravan, considered especially auspicious by devotees of Lord Shiva, will begin on Friday. While northern India already began observing Shravan on July 11, in Vidarbha, the month starts from the Shravan Shukla Pratipada and will conclude on August 23. This month holds deep religious significance for Hindus, with devotees observing fasts, performing rituals, and worshipping Lord Shiva — especially on Mondays. It is believed that sincere prayers and disciplined worship during this period can fulfil wishes and bring peace, health, and prosperity. Four Shravan Mondays in 2025 will be on July 28, August 4, 11, and 18. A unique spiritual initiative is being launched in Nagpur to mark the beginning of Shravan. Starting July 25, the premises of the ancient Shiv Mandir at Mankapur will host a month-long community event where devotees will create Parthiv Shivlings — small symbolic idols made from purified soil. According to the temple organisers, the aim is to collectively create 71 lakh Parthiv Shivlings between July 25 and August 24, with a daily target of 2.25 lakh Shivlings. The initiative is dedicated to the well-being of humanity, global harmony, and the spiritual upliftment of India. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like TV providers are furious: this gadget gives you access to all channels Techno Mag Learn More Undo "Such a vast undertaking is only possible through public participation," said former mayor Dayashankar Tiwari, one of the event coordinators. "We request every devotee to join in with their family and contribute to this sacred cause. We also urge those connected with social organisations to encourage group participation for maximum spiritual benefit." During Shravan, a significant rush of devotees is expected at several ancient Shiva temples across Nagpur. Prominent among them are the revered Shri Kalyaneshwar Shiv Mandir, the ancient Pataleshwar Temple in Mahal, Butti Mahadev Mandir, Shri Jagruteshwar Mahadev Temple, the Mahadev temple in Balaji Nagar, Manewada, and the Shiv temple at Motibagh Railway Colony. These sacred sites are known for their vibrant Shravan festivities, and thousands of devotees are expected to visit for darshan, abhishek, and Monday rituals. In addition, temples across the city will also organise Shiva Mahapuran recitations, Bhagwat Saptahs, Geeta Pathan, and various other devotional activities, creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere throughout the month.
