PM launches Warisan KL initiative to rejuvenate city via 10 flagship projects

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has launched the Warisan KL initiative, aimed at rejuvenating the city's historical core as a creative and cultural district.
The initiative, better known as 'Warisan KL: Warisan Ibu Kota Malaysia Madani', is a public-private effort led by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and ThinkCity, as a response to Kuala Lumpur's historical core gradually hollowing out.
Covering a 20 square kilometre area, Anwar said Warisan KL will also involve 10 flagship projects aimed at repositioning KL as a global creative centre that is uniquely Malaysian, inclusive and connected.
These catalytic projects involve the Dataran Merdeka Heritage Area, Carcosa Seri Negara, Merdeka 118, Masjid Jamek Enclave, Trade Quadrant, Memorial Tun Abdul Razak, Green Connector Network, KL Railway Station, Fashion and Textile, and Content and Programming.

JC3 to develop Malaysian taxonomy on sustainable finance aligning with Asean taxonomy

KUALA LUMPUR: The financial regulators and industry will collaborate to co-develop the Malaysian Taxonomy on Sustainable Finance alongside relevant stakeholders and ministries through the Joint Committee on Climate Change (JC3). In a statement today, JC3 which is co-chaired by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) said the Malaysian Taxonomy will be aligned with the ASEAN Taxonomy. "The taxonomy will progress from a principles-based approach, to utilising science-based technical screening criteria and quantitative thresholds to advance the accuracy and quality of assessment," said the statement in conjunction with its 15th meeting held on Aug 7, 2025. According to JC3, the Climate Finance Innovation Lab (CFIL) which was launched in June 2025 has received strong interest from project owners and a wide range of potential funders. This includes strategic ASEAN projects such as the ASEAN Power Grid and 16 other projects across the four thematic areas namely energy transition, circular economy, sustainable agriculture as well as biodiversity and nature-based solutions, it added. The committee also pledged to support the collaborative efforts of the Advisory Committee on Sustainability Reporting (ACSR) in implementing the National Sustainability Reporting Framework (NSRF) across the financial sector. "JC3 is also exploring the development of a guidance document or use cases for the financial sector to assist industry players in meeting NSRF disclosure expectations. "In addition, the JC3 will be publishing the fourth iteration of the JC3 Data Catalogue in November this year in line with its continued commitment to address data challenges," it said. BNM assistant governor and JC3 co-chair, Madelena Mohamed said the strong interest in CFIL by project owners and the financial sector is encouraging, albeit broader and deeper industry participation is crucial. "We must act now and decisively by scaling up climate finance and nature-positive initiatives in Malaysia," she said. Meanwhile, SC executive director and JC3 co-chair, Salmah Bee Mohd Mydin said climate-related data continues to be an important focus area to ensure effective mobilisation of capital especially for adaptation financing. "Efforts to ramp up the availability and accessibility of climate-related data also support companies' ability to make effective disclosures under the NSRF," she noted. - Bernama

Proton kicks off 2H2025 with second-best monthly sales of the year

PROTON Holdings Bhd posted its second-best monthly sales performance in 2025 in July, as the Malaysian automotive market rebounded from a slow June. The national carmaker sold 13,518 units in July, up 22.1% month-on-month, bringing year-to-date (YTD) sales to 85,674 units and maintaining its position as the second-best-selling brand nationwide. This gave Proton a 19.2% market share for the month, and a YTD share of 19.3% — up from 18.7% in 2024. The surge was supported by the launch of the all-new Proton X50 on July 24, which sold 2,068 units in July despite having only a week on the market. Proton projects total production of 5,000 units by end-August, with bookings nearing five digits. The Proton Saga also posted its best monthly sales of the year at 6,638 units, following its 40th anniversary celebrations in early July. Meanwhile, the Proton X70 registered 617 units, marking a 51.7% YTD sales growth despite heightened competition. Proton's export sales rose 44.1% YTD to 2,258 units, led by the X50, followed by the Saga and 7. The 7, Malaysia's top-selling EV, recorded YTD sales of 4,959 units, including 270 exports. 'The introduction of the all-new Proton X50 has given the entire range an attention boost and Proton intends to keep the upward momentum going with more new model introductions and a technology showcase at the Global Automotive and Technology Expo (GATE) 2025,' said Proton Edar deputy CEO Zhang Qiang. Zhang added that the 7's success 'proves the product and strategy are right for Malaysian EV buyers' and that the upcoming 5 will further grow the company's electric vehicle and export contributions. — TMR
