Imam Tom Facchine At Staten Island Islamic Center: The Nation of Israel Must Be Abolished – We Cannot Settle for Anything Less; Allah Will Topple the Zionist Regime Within a Decade

Memri01-06-2025
During a May 21, 2025 panel discussion titled The Nakba Never Ended at the Muslim American Society (MAS) Staten Island Center, Imam Tom Facchine of Utica, New York stated that the pro-Palestine movement must unify around the message that Israel must be abolished. He said that advocating for a 'generic freedom' is not enough—the 'nation of Israel must be abolished,' and declared: 'We cannot settle for anything less.'
Facchine claimed that Zionists will not stop until they 'change the Quran,' citing EPIC City as an example, and added: 'It's everything or nothing.' He asserted that a maximalist Zionist world is one without Muslims or Palestinians. According to Facchine, Allah has promised Muslims victory if they simply try, and he expressed absolute confidence that within a decade Allah will topple 'the Zionist regime.'
The panel was moderated by Abdullah Akl, an activist with Within Our Lifetime and the political director of the Islamic center. Other participants included British activist Sami Hamdi and Abdelrahman Badawy, imam and resident scholar of MAS Staten Island.

Peoria, Illinois Sermon By Imam Mazhar Mahmood, Who Claims To Be 'Active In Interfaith Community': Muslims Must Not Build Political Ties With Zionists; The Jews Of Medina, In Their Carnal Desires, Plo

Imam Mazhar Mahmood of the Islamic Foundation of Peoria, IL, said in his August 8, 2025 Friday sermon that "alleged" Muslims suggest building "political situations" with the Zionists for the sake of stability, and he asked whether Muslims have "stooped so low." He prayed for Allah to liberate the Al-Aqsa Mosque from the "filth of the plundering Jews." Mahmood urged Muslims to understand their legacy and learn why the Prophet Muhammad expelled the Jews from Medina, telling a narrative from early Islamic days, of Jews harassing a Muslim woman. Mahmood, originally from Toronto, Canada, is also president of Peoria for Palestine. On his website, he claims to be "active in the interfaith community". Mazhar Mahmood: "Does anyone know why the Prophet kicked out the Jews from Medina – namely, Banu Qaynuqa – by their inception? Read history, my friends, understand what our legacy is. [...] "So, of course, the Jews detested this – that a woman dressing like the Muslims is present in their society. [...] "In their carnal desires, they were eager to get a glance at this woman, so they devised, they deliberated, they plotted. [...] "What they do is they take the bottom portion of her clothing and they tie it with her khimar, with her hijab, so when she gets up, what happens? Her bottom is revealed. [...] "How similar is today to yesterday, when you see hundreds of thousands of children and women, innocent men, falling, being starved to death, yet, some Muslims – alleged Muslims – say: 'We need to build political situations with these Zionists. We need to have political stability.' Have we stooped so low, my friends? Oh Allah, liberate the Al-Aqsa Mosque from the filth of the plundering Jews."

'At this historic juncture, where a 'thousand years of brotherhood is being redefined,' it is our shared responsibility to respect the pain and learn from the past,' Aysegul Dogan, spokesperson for the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), said on X. The DEM Party is leading renewed efforts to end the decades-long conflict between the PKK and the Turkish state, which has claimed over 40,000 lives, mainly PKK fighters. The party serves as a mediator and main communication channel between Ankara and jailed PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan. Dogan lamented that during the bloody conflict, 'many Kurdish and Turkish youths have lost their lives, whether Turkish or Kurdish, soldier or PKK member.' 'The salt of all our tears is the same!' she stated. The PKK held a disarmament ceremony in the Kurdistan Region's Sulaimani province in mid-July, where 30 members and commanders burned their weapons. It followed Ocalan's historic February call to abandon the armed struggle and pursue a political solution to secure Kurdish rights in Turkey. A Turkish parliamentary commission tasked with establishing a legal framework for the peace process has been established and on Friday had its second meeting. The sessions are being held under the confidentiality rule, keeping the record sealed for ten years. The commission includes representatives from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), the DEM Party, and several smaller parties. The PKK, established in 1978, initially sought Kurdish independence before shifting its focus to securing political and cultural rights for Kurds in Turkey. It is designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey and its Western allies.
