Orioles rally past Mariners for 5th straight win

June 5 - Heston Kjerstad's two-run triple in the seventh inning proved decisive as the Baltimore Orioles rallied to defeat the host Seattle Mariners 3-2 Wednesday night. Adley Rutschman homered for the Orioles, who won their season-high fifth straight game and improved to 8-2 over their past 10. Cal Raleigh went 2-for-4 with a double with an RBI and a run scored for the Mariners, who dropped to 3-5 on their nine-game homestand that concludes Thursday. Orioles reliever Yennier Cano (1-4) got the victory and Felix Bautista worked the ninth for his 11th save. Trailing 2-1 in the seventh, Ramon Urias drew a base on balls. With two outs, the Mariners brought in Carlos Vargas (1-4) to face Coby Mayo, but the move backfired as Vargas walked him on four straight pitches. Kjerstad then hit a fly ball that landed just fair down the right-field line and rolled to the wall, scoring both runners. The Mariners had just one hit through the first three innings, a dribbler down the third-base line by Julio Rodriguez in the first, before Raleigh led off the bottom of the fourth with a ground-rule double down the right-field line. Rodriguez blooped a single to center before Randy Arozarena hit a sacrifice fly to the warning track in center to open the scoring. The Orioles tied it on Rutschman's 415-foot blast to right-center with two outs in the sixth. The Mariners regained the lead in the bottom of the inning after Ben Williamson was hit by a pitch and J.P. Crawford walked. Raleigh drove in the run with a liner down the left-field line but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. Crawford tried to score on a grounder to shortstop Gunnar Henderson and was originally called safe by home-plate umpire Jeremie Rehak, but Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino challenged the play and a video review determined catcher Rutschman got the tag down just before Crawford touched the plate. Both starters pitched well, though neither factored into the decision. Orioles lefty Cade Povich allowed two runs on four hits in 5 1/3 innings, with one walk and five strikeouts. Mariners right-hander Emerson Hancock gave up two hits and one run over 5 2/3 innings, with two walks and six strikeouts. --Field Level Media

Fleetwood Town cup sees Airdrie club crowned champions

Airdrie Community Club 2015s won the prestigious tournament in England Airdrie Community Club 2015 Whites were crowned champions at Fleetwood Town's Poolfoot Cup in England. The prestigious competition attracted 16 youth teams from across the UK to compete at the Lancashire club's £10m state-of-the-art training facility, including Celtic, Liverpool, Leeds and Nottingham Forest. ‌ Each team played five 25-minute group games, with the top eight qualifying for the cup, and the bottom eight into a trophy. ‌ Airdrie Community Club, bossed by Frazer Gilchrist, went through their section undefeated, playing against teams including Blantyre Soccer Academy and Fleetwood. The young Diamonds scored 36 goals in their 12 games, conceding just once in the final, with goals from Caillen Hilferty and TJ McFarlane. Parent Mary McFarlane, of sponsors Sharles Chartered Accountants, said: 'It was remarkable – stressful, tense, enjoyable, all rolled into one. 'We were undefeated across the two days, and going into the final game against BSA Blacks, we had to win it. A draw would have done the other team, so we knew it was must-win and we won 2-1, so that sealed it for us.' Mary, whose husband James is a coach and son TJ played in the team, added: 'The boys showcased incredible team work, skill and determination and remained undefeated throughout, which is a phenomenal achievement that brought immense pride to coaches and families. 'These boys have done something truly special.' The team consisted of goalkeeper Corey Horn, Lewis Gilchrist, TJ McFarlane, Caillen Hilferty, Casey Murray, Harvey Cunningham, Robbie Allan, Lewis O'Hare and Shay Nimmo, coached by manager Frazer Gilchrist and coaches James McFarlane, Brian O'Hare and James Nimmo. Frazer Gilchrist said: 'This is the proudest moment for the team so far. 'The boys came together as a team and played every game with enthusiasm and courage.'

5 Celtic Double winners facing uncertain futures this summer as Hoops braced for stick or twist transfer calls

The unpredictability of the transfer window means the Hoops will always prepare for the unexpected Brendan Rodgers has already placed his cards on the table. The Celtic boss dropped the poker face last month by revealing the exact number of additions he wants this summer. Three was the magic number - but there was a caveat. ‌ We expect there to be around four or five additions, but exactly many come in will depend on who goes out. ‌ In an ideal world, Rodgers would sprinkle some star dust on top of what he already has at his disposal. Yet the reality is, the Irishman knows the cards will be stacked against him being able to keep all of his top assets. Fans will hope Rodgers has an ace up his sleeve should any unexpected departures unfold, but at the back of his mind, the 52-year-old may already be braced for interest in some of his Double-winners. Here, Record Sport examines five key players who face uncertain futures. Greg Taylor Now officially a free agent, Celts have yet to confirm Taylor's departure. The left-back, 27, has dropped cryptic hints on social media that his trophy-laden seven years at Parkhead has come to an end, with interest swirling across Europe. Taylor is currently on a family holiday in Dubai and appears to have put the uncertainty surrounding his future on the back burner for some well-earned R & R. However, it's believed he's weighing up a proposal from Greek giants PAOK, who are said to have identified the defender as a key target. Signed as a replacement for Kieran Tierney in 2019, the £2million capture from Kilmarnock is reluctant to play second fiddle to the homecoming hero and the Hoops have already drawn up a list of possible successors, including Peterborough youngster Harley Mills. It's unlikely that loanee Jeffrey Schlupp will be offered a permanent deal by the Scottish champions after leaving Crystal Palace. Auston Trusty The jury remains out on £6m stopper Trusty. The USA international has flattered to deceive domestically but has stood up to the test on the European stage, even in the absence of first-choice Cameron Carter-Vickers. Aside from the 7-1 mauling in Dortmund, Trusty excelled at the heart of the defence, keeping clean sheets against Atalanta, Dinamo Zagreb and Young Boys. But when it comes to the bread and butter of the SPFL, the ex-Sheffield United and Arsenal centre-back has struggled to get to grips with Scottish football. ‌ Rodgers was even captured by Sky cameras venting his dismay at Trusty's weak defending in January's 3-3 thriller at Dens Park and after losing his place to Liam Scales towards the end of the campaign, Celts may try to recoup their massive outlay. Trusty and his wife recently welcomed their first child into the world and rumours suggest he may have options back in his homeland in the MLS. Reo Hatate The Japanese maestro splits the green-and-white faithful at times but his absence was sorely felt in the Treble-busting Scottish Cup Final defeat to Aberdeen. Hatate - who suffered a nasty knee injury at Pittodrie a week prior - has been accused of blowing hot and cold, with his manager even lamenting his inconsistency at times. Yet the dynamic playmaker's creativity was clearly missed at Hampden as the Hoops struggled to break down the stubborn Dons. Now 27 and about to enter his fifth season in Glasgow, there seems to be a growing acceptance that his days could be numbered and the four-in-a-row champs could decide to cash in. Celtic have mastered the art of selling when the time is right and a parting of ways could well suit both parties. Yet while Hatate's exit would boost the coffers by upwards of £12m, there's no doubt that he'd leave a gaping hole in the middle of the park. Nicolas Kuhn On the other hand, German winger Kuhn could be this summer's big-money sale. The bargain £3m signing from Rapid Vienna has caught the attention of clubs across Europe after his sizzling displays in the Champions League, haunting former employers RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich with trademark goals. The 25-year-old was unstoppable from pre-season until the turn of the year, but his form undoubtedly dipped from January onwards. ‌ No player in Celtic's team was subbed off more than Kuhn across the entire season (33 times), which shows the wide man is far from the finished article. With Jota crocked until 2026, Rodgers would rather keep Kuhn for at least another year. However, the Parkhead club's resolve could be tested in the coming months. Daizen Maeda Put simply, Maeda is irreplaceable. There's no one quite like the Japanese running machine in world football. The Hoops workhorse must be a manager's dream as his relentless pressing and versatility in the attacking areas make him an integral part of the team. Celtic's Durracell Bunny never seems to run out of battery, and this season, hoovered up every Player of the Year award going after finding his shooting boots, filling the void left behind by Kyogo's shock exit to Rennes with 33 goals. Now in the final two years of his contract, fans are sweating over whether the 27-year-old will be among those who return to Lennoxtown for pre-season. Maeda has been non-committal on his future but did offer the club's legions a glimmer of hope this week by insisting he wants to do even better for Celtic next term. Will his head be turned by the prospect of playing in a top-five league? It remains to be seen.
