Idaho killer gets life sentence, stays quiet on motive for deadly stabbings

Bryan Kohberger, 30, received four consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole or appeal under a deal with prosecutors that spared him the death penalty in return for his guilty plea to four counts of first-degree murder.
Judge Steven Hippler gave Kohberger, dressed in orange jail garb, an opportunity to make a statement before sentence was pronounced.
The defendant, who sat expressionless beside his lawyers throughout the hearing, answered: 'I respectfully decline,' the only words he uttered during the proceedings.

During the proceedings in Idaho's Fourth District Court in Boise, the state capital, numerous family members and friends of the victims vented their anger and anguish directly at Kohberger through the presentation of victim impact statements.

4 killed in shooting at Montana bar, manhunt launched for gunman
A shooting at a Montana bar left four people dead on Friday, prompting a lockdown in a neighbourhood several kilometres away as authorities searched for the suspect in a wooded area. The agency confirmed four people were pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect, who was identified as 45-year-old Michael Paul Brown, lived next door to the bar, according to public records. Authorities said his home was cleared by a Swat team and that he was last seen in the Stump Town area, which is just west of Anaconda. More than a dozen officers from local and state police converged on that area, locking it down so no one was allowed in or out. A helicopter also hovered over a nearby mountainside as officers moved among the trees, said Randy Clark, a retired police officer who lives there. Epstein's ex Ghislaine Maxwell moved to lower-security prison after meeting Trump official
Jeffrey Epstein's former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell has been transferred from a Florida prison to a lower-security facility in Texas to continue serving her 20-year sentence for helping the late financier sexually abuse underage girls, the US Bureau of Prisons said on Friday. Maxwell's move from FCI Tallahassee, a low-security prison, to the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas, comes a week after she met with Deputy US Attorney General Todd Blanche, who said he wanted to speak with her about anyone else who may have been involved in Epstein's crimes. Maxwell's lawyer David Markus confirmed she was moved but said he had no other comment. Spokespeople for the Department of Justice did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The BOP classifies prison camps such as Bryan as minimum security institutions, the lowest of five security levels in the federal system. Such facilities have limited or no perimeter fencing. facilities such as FCI Tallahassee have double-fenced perimeters and higher staff-to-inmate ratios than camps, according to the bureau.
