Nicole Kidman Reveals What Her New Bob Wig Says About Masha In 'Nine Perfect Strangers' Series Two

Elle6 days ago

With a new series of Nine Perfect Strangers we're treated to a number of things — huge plot twists, an A-list cast, and a new Nicole Kidman wig.
In the first series of Nine Perfect Strangers Kidman's character Masha sports long, flowing hair that in itself made headlines when the series was released in 2021. But as the show travels to the Austrian Alps in its second outing, we find Masha sporting a sharp, fringed bob.

Reminiscent of her Paddington character Millicent, the bob denotes a darker, sharper side to Masha - as Kidman herself explained to Variety.
Speaking to Variety at the premiere of season two, Kidman talked about Masha's new bob, saying: 'Everything is very specific. It's chosen for a reason because she's got very strong intentions and agendas.'
The show finds Masha in a fictional resort, Zauberwald, where a new bunch of strangers come to find wellness and healing under her mostly questionable methods.
And when she was shown options by her hairdresser and makeup artists Noriko Watanabe, Kidman said she only had to see one wig.
'It's very quick,' Kidman said. 'We just came up with the character and vibe, how she should be and what she should look for.'
The actor also told the publication she was thrilled to have 'free rein' this season, as the story wasn't led by a book unlike the first series, which was based on Liana Moriarty's novel.
She added it was 'fun to play' a woman with power. 'So many times, I play women that are in a very precarious place emotionally and Masha is just a badass.'
The first two episodes of Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 premiered on Prime Video on May 22, with new episodes launching weekly.

'King of the Hill' actor Jonathan Joss shot to death; husband calls it antigay hate crime

Jonathan Joss, an actor known for the TV shows King of the Hill and Parks and Recreation, was shot to death Sunday night in what his husband is calling a homophobic hate crime. Keep up with the latest in + news and politics. Joss, 59, was shot at the site of his former San Antonio home, which had burned down in January, according to multiple media outlets. He and his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, had gone there to check their mail, Kern de Gonzales wrote on social media. Once there, 'we discovered the skull of one of our dogs and its harness placed in clear view,' he wrote on Facebook. 'This caused both of us severe emotional distress. We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw. 'While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. He then raised a gun from his lap and fired. Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life.' Police attempted to revive Joss, but when paramedics arrived, they pronounced him dead, The New York Times reports. A neighbor, Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, 56, was arrested and is charged with murder. Police have not commented on a motive and said the investigation is continuing. However, Kern de Gonzales wrote that Joss was killed "by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other." Joss, born and raised in San Antonio, was best known as the voice of John Redcorn, a Native American masseur and healer, on the Fox animated series King of the Hill. The actor was of Apache and Comanche heritage. He had already recorded some of his lines for the series' upcoming reboot, Variety notes. The reboot will be available in August on Hulu. He played a Native American chief, Ken Hotate, on five episodes of Parks and Recreation, a situation comedy on NBC that starred Amy Poehler. He appeared on other TV shows, such as Ray Donovan, Friday Night Lights, Tulsa King, and Walker, Texas Ranger, and in films that included the remakes of True Grit and The Magnificent Seven. He also was a musician with the Red Corn Band, the name of which references his King of the Hill character. Kern de Gonzales said in his Facebook post that he and Joss had frequently been harassed and threatened by homophobic neighbors. This included threats to set their house on fire, Kern de Gonzales said. Joss said at the time of the fire that he may have left something on that caused it, but Friday at the ATX TV Festival in Austin, he said, 'My house burned down three months ago because I'm gay,' according to People. He spoke from the audience and said he was disappointed not to have been invited to be in an onstage panel that featured producers Mike Judge and Greg Daniels. Joss and Kern de Gonzales were married on Valentine's Day of this year. 'He gave me more love in our time together than most people ever get,' Kern de Gonzales wrote in his Facebook post.

‘Squid Game 2' Cast on Connecting With Fans and Relating to Their Characters: ‘Thanos Isn't A Villain, But He Is A Man-Child'

'Squid Game' creator, director and writer Hwang Dong-hyuk joined production designer Chae Kyoung-sun, editor Nam Na-yeong and director of photography Kim Ji-yong and members of the 'Squid Game 2' cast (Lee Jung-jae, Kang Ae-shim, Park Sung-hoon, Lee Byung-hun and Choi Seung-hyun) for a panel and screening on Friday night that was part of Netflix's FYSEE LA series. When it came to choosing which seemingly-innocent schoolyard games would become death traps in the second installment of his dystopian black comedy, Hwang says he looked for challenges that would force players to vote en masse. 'So many free democratic countries around the world are choosing their leaders, and therefore their futures, through the act of casting a vote.' 'Elections exist to provide the right direction for society to head in, but as we all see, it's actually leading people to even further division and hostility – almost the opposite way of what it was originally intended to do. I really wanted to poke at the theme of majority rule in elections within the liberal democratic world, and pose the question: can [democracy] truly bring us down the right path? Is it capable of allowing us to choose the right leaders?' For Park Sung-hoon, who plays Cho Hyun-ju (a special forces agent ostracized by her peers when she came out as a transgender woman) joining the cast of 'Squid Game 2' allowed him to form a deeper bond with an understanding of the LGBTQ+. community. '[The fans] have given me so much support and love despite me being a cisgender actor playing a transgender character,' said Sung-hoon. 'I think the world is becoming a better place for the LGBTQ+ community, but prejudices and biases still exist, and Geum-ja is a character who represents that kind of attitude towards the community.' 'But later on in the show, Geum-ja warms up to her, she embraces her as one of her friends and family. I hope the viewers feel the same way about Hyun-ju, warming up to her as family. In season three, we go through a lot together, so we develop an even stronger bond.' Sung-hoon wasn't the only newcomer impacted by the show's writing – Choi Seung-hyun, (a rapper and former member of the K-pop group BIGBANG) says understanding the psychology of his character Thanos helped him reflect on his own past. 'Thanos and I have some common ground, as a rapper who went out second in a competition show and had drug issues,' Seung-hyun explained. 'While you might think of me as a successful rapper, I also had my failures, so I had to come face-to-face with my past mistakes when I was looking at Thanos. It took a lot of courage for me to take on this role, but Director Hwang put so much trust in me. 'I don't think Thanos is a villain, but he is a man-child,' Seung-hyun continued. 'Playing this character, it was an opportunity for me to self-reflect on my past and think about what I've done wrong. Through 'Squid Game,' and Thanos, I feel like I'm ready to move on to a new chapter of my life. I learned so much from him.' The day after the FYC event, the 'Squid Game' stars walked the red carpet, where Lee Jung-jae told Variety he still wants to see Leonardo DiCaprio on the show. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's Daughter Shiloh Debuts New Name

Originally appeared on E! Online would like to reintroduce herself. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's daughter debuted her new nickname 'Shi' at Isabel Marant's collection launch in Los Angeles May 29. The 19-year-old used the new title as her choreography credit for the dance number Keoni Rose and Tako Suzuki performed during the event, alongside singer-songwriter Luella's new song 'Naïve,' Variety reported. Shi's new moniker comes a year after she made another subtle name change, officially petitioning to drop her dad's surname after her 18th birthday last May. And while Shi may be the latest to try out a new title, she isn't the only one of her siblings to go by a new name professionally. (Angelina and Brad are also parents to Maddox, 23, Zahara, 20, Pax, 21, and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.)Last May, Vivienne, who worked as a producer's assistant for The Outsiders, was listed as 'Vivienne Jolie' in the Playbill. "My daughter Viv loves theater," Angelina told Deadline last June. "She appreciates all theater, but she certainly knows what she feels close to and what she responds to." Angelina noted that Vivienne found working on The Outsiders to be a 'very different experience of understanding." 'This is having a significant effect on her as a young person right now,' Angelina explained, 'and she's communicating something to me, and that is the power of this material. And then I had the privilege of watching everyone work over this last year to make it into what it is, and Vivienne has been there the whole way.' Despite her daughters' recent forays into the spotlight, Angelina has said they much prefer their privacy. 'None of my children want to be in front of the camera at this time,' she told Good Morning America in November. 'They're quite private.' And the Maleficent actress emphasized that Shi, specifically, was 'extremely' private among her siblings. 'They weren't born with privacy, right?' Angelina posited.
