PTA issues clarification on YouTube ban press release
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued a clarification on Friday, stating that a press release circulating on social media regarding a ban on YouTube is outdated and dates back to 2012. The PTA urged the public to disregard the misleading information.
In a statement, the telecom regulator explained that the press release, which resurfaced online, was creating confusion about YouTube's current operational status in Pakistan. "It has come to the attention of PTA that an old press release about the shutdown of YouTube in Pakistan, originally issued in September 2012 following Supreme Court orders, is being recirculated," the statement read.
The original ban was enforced by then-Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf in response to protests over the controversial film Innocence of Muslims. However, the PTA confirmed that the 2012 press release is no longer relevant.
"PTA clarifies that the content being circulated is outdated and irrelevant to the current circumstances," the authority stated. "At present, no instructions have been issued by PTA to block or shut down YouTube or any other social media platform."
The PTA also advised the public to verify such information through official channels, including its website and verified social media handles.
In related news, India recently blocked over two dozen Pakistani YouTube channels for allegedly spreading "provocative" content following an attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu Kashmir (IIOJK).
Channels of prominent Pakistani news outlets such as Express, Dawn, Samaa TV, ARY News, Bol News, and Geo News were affected, along with the social media accounts of various Pakistani personalities, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and athletes like Shahid Afridi and Babar Azam.
The blocked channels in India displayed a message citing an 'order from the government related to national security or public order.'

‘Strong and growing' interest among American firms in Pakistan's energy sector, says US diplomat
US Charge d'Affaires to Pakistan, Natalie A. Baker, highlighted strong American interest in Pakistan's energy sector. The US official gave her remarks during a high-level meeting with Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik on Wednesday. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between the United States and Pakistan in the energy sector, with particular emphasis on the oil, gas, and minerals sectors, read a statement. Last month, the US administration imposed a 19% reciprocal tariff on a wide range of Pakistani goods, significantly lower than the initially proposed 29%, under an executive order signed by US President Donald Trump. PAF launches flood relief operation in GB, evacuates 75 stranded
Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has evacuated 75 stranded individuals from Gilgit-Baltistan in a large-scale flood relief operation, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Wednesday. 'Demonstrating unwavering resolve amidst difficult weather conditions and rugged mountainous terrain, PAF C-130 aircraft airlifted 7 tons of dry rations, daily use eatables and life-saving medicines from PAF Base Nur Khan to Gilgit,' the ISPR said. It added that the consignment will be distributed in remote flood-affected valleys in coordination with National Disaster Management Authority. 'Over the coming days, PAF aircraft and ground teams will remain engaged in sustained relief operations, delivering food, medicines, shelter and medical aid to vulnerable communities.' The timely and determined response by PAF has brought renewed hope to flood-hit families in Gilgit-Baltistan, reaffirming the unflinching resolve of Pakistan Armed Forces to stand shoulder to shoulder with the nation in every hour of trial, added the ISPR. As heavy monsoon rains continue to wreak havoc, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed an intensified and wide-reaching response to relief and rehabilitation efforts across the flood-affected area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The prime minister called for an uninterrupted electricity supply to the flood-stricken districts of KP for at least one week. He also instructed that all formalities related to the disbursement of financial aid to victims be completed without delay. NDMA officials told the meeting that more than 25,000 people have been rescued since the onset of flooding. A total of 411 medical camps have been established nationwide – 308 of them in KP alone. The Ministry of Finance informed the meeting that an additional Rs4 billion has been allocated to sustain ongoing rescue and relief operations.
