Date and venue confirmed for Fred Conway Cumberland Cup final
Carlisle City will face Penrith at Workington Reds' Borough Park on Tuesday, April 22.
The Northern League Division One rivals will go head to head in the county senior cup showpiece in west Cumbria, with the match to kick-off at 7.30pm.
It will be one of the last games at Borough Park before a summer of demolition work at the ground, before the building of a new community stadium.
Cumberland Football Association bosses have also described the occasion as "bittersweet" as it will be the last season that the cup is named after their late former chairman Fred Conway.
We're pleased to confirm details for this year's Fred Conway Cumberland Cup Final! 🏆 ⚽ @penrith_afc 🆚 @CarlisleCityFC 📆 Tuesday 22 April ⏰ 7:30pm 📍 Borough Park, @WorkingtonAFC #FredConwayCumberlandCup pic.twitter.com/vejxmpYRFn

Confirming the final's date and venue, Cumberland FA chief executive Ben Snowdon said: "Whilst we appreciate that we rarely please everyone when it comes to the location of our finals, this decision is filled with bittersweet sentiment.
"This will be the last season that the competition is named after our late chair Fred, as we always said we would revert to the Cumberland Cup after three finals, as we believe this is what he would have insisted upon, and we therefore plan to honour his legacy through different means.
"It therefore feels fitting that the last Fred Conway Cumberland Cup final will be held at Borough Park, a stadium and a place which he loved, ahead of its major redevelopment in the coming years."
It will be the second successive year that Workington's ground has hosted the final, Reds themselves winning the cup last season by defeating Carlisle United.
The majority of finals in previous recent years were at United's Brunton Park ground, which hosted every other final since 2007, except 2022's final, which was at Penrith's Frenchfield Park.
Carlisle City, who defeated Cleator Moor Celtic in their semi-final, will be out to regain the cup they last won in 2022.
Penrith, who got past Aspatria in the last four, are looking to become county senior cup winners for the first time since 2010.

Panthers continue poaching raids as NRL champs sign outside back from Tigers
For years the Penrith Panthers have had to contend with rival NRL clubs raiding their junior ranks. It even got to the point where Ivan Cleary called for the Panthers to be compensated by the NRL for producing so much young talent that ends up at different clubs. But the four-time premiers are starting to get some of their own back, signing a number of talented youngsters from rival clubs in recent weeks. On the back of signing playmakers Keahn Skipps from the Raiders and Haami Loza from the Knights, the Panthers have also poached a rising outside back from the Wests Tigers' system. This week, teenager Thomas Goodfield agreed to join the Panthers in another huge recruitment coup for the defending champs. Goodfield has been playing for the Western Suburbs Magpies in the Harold Matthews Cup competition (Under-17s), and will play for the Panthers next year in the Under-19s SG Ball Cup. Goodfield plays on the wing or in the centres and is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in the Tigers' pathways system. His move to the Panthers will come as a massive blow to Tigers coach Benji Marshall and the organisation. "My dad, who was a diehard Parra fan, got me into playing footy, and it'd be mad and good for my family (to one day play in the NRL)," Goodfield told earlier this year. "I've played this sport all the way up through the grades, but I'd just be over the moon about it if it does happen in the future. It would be so good (to play in the NRL)." Panthers continue signing spree of talented youngsters The signing of Goodfield continues a recruitment drive for the Panthers, who have also snared Skipps and Loza from Canberra and Newcastle respectively. Both are highly-rated halves and will gain valuable experience alongside Nathan Cleary in the Penrith system. The Panthers also thought they'd poached young back-rower Kayliss Fatialofa from the Warriors, but he backflipped during the cooling off period and decided to stay in New Zealand. It's believed the 20-year-old agreed to join Penrith before he had a change of heart. RELATED: Knights' pursuit of Roosters player throws Ponga's future in more doubt Broncos teammate could join Payne Haas and defect from Kangaroos Last month, the Panthers lost twin 16-year-olds Alexander and Cornelius Pupualii to the Dragons. Cornelius is a 193cm-tall centre weighing in at 100kg, who the Dragons view as a long-term member of their back-line. While Alexander is a 119kg second-rower, who has missed all junior footy this season due to an ACL injury. The Panthers have one of the best junior pathways systems in the NRL, which inevitably results in rival clubs poaching some of their best young talent. Speaking last year, coach Cleary called for the NRL to introduce a compensation system for when clubs have their junior ranks raided. "I think we should get dispensation, probably more in a development sense," Cleary said. "We develop a lot of players here that end up elsewhere, so I feel like we should get looked after more by the NRL in that space, apart from the salary cap and how it all works, it's hard to argue with. But I do think we should be compensated in some way for the amount of players we've developed and the status they've become throughout the league." Penrith could part ways with up to 10 players The Panthers continue to top up their junior ranks and have been moving on some of their fringe first-graders. Brad Schneider and Mavrik Geyer have signed with the Dolphins and Tigers respectively for 2026, while there's reports that Daine Laurie and Luke Sommerton have been told they can look elsewhere and won't be receiving a new contract. Asu Kepaoa has agreed to a deal with the Knights, while there's speculation that Preston Riki, Harry Hassett, Soni Luke, Austin Dias, Zac Lipowicz and Riley Price could all be looking for new clubs. I agree 10000% with everyone on your 'gone list'…Sommerton has also been told he can look elsewhere if he likes. Nit sure about the other three…I think thug might keep Lamont. — Peter Lang (@PeterVLang) August 18, 2025

Souths cop more bad news about Latrell as mystery around Penrith ace deepens
Souths have received mixed news ahead of Thursday night's clash with the equally injury-ravaged Dragons, with Latrell Mitchell again ruled out and another star set to return. While the mystery surrounding Panthers star Isaah Yeo's shoulder injury has deepened, with the Penrith co-captain named on the extended bench for Friday night's must-win clash against NRL ladder-leaders Canberra. Yeo has not played since injuring himself in the round 22 win against Gold Coast, and Penrith have remained tight-lipped about his prognosis. Coach Ivan Cleary said after the injury that Yeo had not completely dislocated his right shoulder, but admitted the club was unsure about the extent of the damage and when he would likely return. But Yeo revealed over the weekend that he was eyeing a comeback for the crucial game against the Raiders, which Penrith feel they'll have to win to keep their top-four hopes alive. "I'm a chance of playing, I think. My shoulder's coming along well," Yeo said on Fox League. "These are the games you want to be playing at the moment. We've got a really tough run at the moment, which is good for us leading into the finals. They're the ones you want to be out there for. I'm trying to get out there." Penrith need to beat the Raiders to remain in the hunt for an all-important top-four finish after going down in a controversial golden point loss to Melbourne last week. That saw the four-time reigning premiers drop to fifth on the ladder - one point behind the fourth-placed Warriors who are expected to beat the lowly Titans this weekend. Yeo has barely missed any games for Penrith across their long dynasty, barring absences for Origin and being rested after rep games. And his inclusion on the extended bench is the clearest indication yet that the Panthers co-captain is ready to return for the business end of the season. Veteran forward Matt Eisenhuth would most likely drop out of the Penrith 17 to accommodate Yeo's return if he does prove his fitness for the Raiders blockbuster in Mudgee. Canberra coach Ricky Stuart looks set to stick with the same side that beat Manly in round 23, and will be hoping last week's bye will have his Raiders fresh as they push for the minor premiership. Latrell Mitchell out again amid shock return for Souths forward Meanwhile, Souths will be without their superstar fullback Mitchell for a second-straight week, as he battles a pinched nerve in the back that kept the 28-year-old out of last week's stirring four-point win over Parramatta. Mitchell has been left out of Wayne Bennett's extended squad entirely, and the best-case scenario would see him return for the final round grudge match against the Roosters, after Souths' bye in round 26. Jye Gray will continue to deputise for Mitchell after impressing at fullback this season, with the diminutive No.1 putting in a man-of-the-match display against the Eels last week. Tallis Duncan has been named in the centres to cover for the loss of Bayleigh Bentley-Hape (concussion), while Jai Arrow shifts to the back-row to accomodate the return of Lachlan Hubner. RELATED: Haas switch exposes dilemma for NSW teammate amid fresh Origin debate Manly's plea to fans as DCE braces for mixed reception in final games Legend's message to Jake Trbojevic amid worrying fallout at Manly The Rabbitohs have also been given a massive boost, with star forward Keaon Koloamatangi set for a shock return from a syndesmosis injury that looked to have ended his season. The Dragons have had to make three major changes with Hamish Stewart, Jack de Belin and Hame Sele all entering the concussion protocol. It means Jacob Halangahu and Ben Murdoch-Masila have been named to start and Blake Lawrie joining the bench, alongside last week's 18th man, Tyrell Sloan. with AAP

Panthers sign another playmaker from rival club as 10 stars tipped to depart Penrith
The Penrith Panthers have reportedly signed another talented young playmaker from a rival NRL club, amid reports up to 10 players could depart the defending premiers in the off-season. Peter Lang of 'The Western Weekender' newspaper in Penrith reported on Tuesday that Haami Loza has agreed to join the Panthers from the Newcastle Knights. The 21-year-old is highly regarded at the Knights and made his debut at NSW Cup level earlier this season. Lang wrote on social media: "Haami has plenty of potential and will no doubt thrive in the Penrith Panthers pathways system." It comes after the Panthers recently signed Keahn Skipps from the Canberra Raiders. Skipps captained the Raiders' Jersey Flegg Cup team at Under-19 level, and also has plenty of big raps on him. Skipps and Loza will gain valuable tutelage under champion Panthers halfback Nathan Cleary, with Lang tipping them to battle each other for a spot in first-grade in the near future. RELATED: Manly's message to fans as Daly Cherry-Evans faces brutal reception Broncos rocked as another player set to miss remainder of NRL season The Panthers appear to be replenishing their junior stocks and parting ways with some of their fringe first-graders. Cleary is under contract until the end of 2027, but there's been constant speculation he might leave the Panthers to be closer to UK-based girlfriend Mary Fowler. With Skipps and Loza joining, the four-time defending premiers have plenty of depth in the halves. Blaize Talagi has emerged as a gun five-eighth in 2025, while youngster Jack Cole is under contract until the end of 2026. PANTHERS SIGNING NEWS: RISING halves star Haami Loza has signed a two-year deal with the Penrith Panthers for the 2026-27 season Haami played with the Newcastle Knights, beginning in the SG Ball Competition before earning his NSW Cup is has plenty of… — Peter Lang (@PeterVLang) August 19, 2025 Panthers set for roster shake-up as 10 could depart On Tuesday, Lang also reported that a number of the Panthers' top-30 squad could be looking for new clubs. Back-up playmaker Brad Schneider has already signed with the Dolphins for 2026, while outside back Asu Kepaoa will be joining the Knights. Mavrik Geyer has signed with the Wests Tigers, while fullback Daine Laurie has been told his contract won't be renewed. Lang also confirmed a fan's theory that the futures of Preston Riki, Harry Hassett, Soni Luke, Austin Dias, Zac Lipowicz, Riley Price and Luke Sommerton are under a cloud. Lang said Sommerton has been told he can look for a new club, and doesn't expect the others to receive new contracts for 2026 either. I agree 10000% with everyone on your 'gone list'…Sommerton has also been told he can look elsewhere if he likes. Nit sure about the other three…I think thug might keep Lamont. — Peter Lang (@PeterVLang) August 18, 2025 The most significant names on that list are Luke, Sommerton and Riki - who have all made appearances in first-grade over the last two years. Luke has played 26 NRL games for the Panthers and seven Test matches for Tonga, but has struggled to get regular playing time behind Mitch Kenny. Sommerton is also a hooker who's been stuck behind Kenny, playing just 10 games in first-grade since his debut in 2023. Riki has played two NRL games for Penrith, while Hassett made his long appearance at NRL level earlier this season. If the reports are correct, it appears the Panthers are set for a roster shake-up. The defending champs are constantly raided by rival clubs, but appear to be hitting back and snapping up some talented youngsters from other teams' junior ranks. However they did cop some bad news earlier this week when 20-year-old back-rower Kayliss Fatialofa decided to backflip and remain at the Warriors despite initially agreeing to join the Panthers.
