ULANQAB, China, May 19, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The five-day 'Travelogue of China 2025' Inner Mongolia Tour concluded on May 16, highlighting the region's digital innovation, sustainable agriculture, and expanding logistics network.
Co-hosted by the China Public Diplomacy Association and Global Times Online, the event welcomed 23 journalists from 19 Asia-Pacific countries. Participants visited prominent sites in Hohhot and Ulanqab, including the Yili Modern Intelligent Health Valley, Inner Mongolia Data Exchange Center, Chahar High-Tech Development Zone, and the Qisumu International Logistics Park.
At Yili's health valley and M·Grass, journalists observed how advanced technologies—from pasture cultivation to smart farming and intelligent manufacturing—are driving high-quality growth in animal husbandry. In the region's digital economy landmarks like the Yungu Exploration Port and data centers, reporters saw Inner Mongolia's emergence as a 'cloud valley on the grasslands.'
Visits to agricultural innovation hubs such as the Cold-Tolerant Vegetable Academician Workstation, strawberry plant factories, and the Hongfu Modern Agricultural Park showcased Inner Mongolia's pioneering role in digital and modern agriculture.
The delegation also explored Wulanhada Volcano Geopark, known as a 'natural volcano museum' with unique, well-preserved lava formations. In 2024, the site drew 4.47 million tourists, generating RMB 3.73 billion in revenue and supporting thousands of local jobs.
At Qisumu Logistics Park, an international hub for China-Europe freight trains and agro-product processing, foreign journalists expressed interest in potential rail links to their own countries. 'China's infrastructure and diplomatic approach are not just resilient but visionary,' said Shahrokh Saei, a journalist from the Tehran Times. Isu Tuvshin, a Mongolian journalist from News.mn, added that China's strategic planning and innovation give it 'a unique global trade advantage.'
The 2025 series officially launched on May 12 at the National Dairy Technology Innovation Center in Hohhot, marking the eighth edition of the 'Travelogue of China' program.

Peru's gold exports to China through June overtake all 2024

LIMA (Reuters) -Peru's gold exports to China surged in the first half of 2025 to surpass shipments from all of last year, according to government data released in August. WHY IT'S IMPORTANT Global appetite for gold is rising amid trade tensions between the U.S. and China. Prices for the metal, a safe haven asset whose value typically rises in times of turmoil, hit record levels last year. BY THE NUMBERS Peru's gold exports to China reached $947 million in the first half of 2025, up nearly four times from the same period last year. That figure has been steadily rising. Peru exported $885 million in gold to China in 2024, a 410% increase from the $173 million in exports registered in 2023. Peru's global gold exports surged 46% year-on-year in the six months through June, to total $8.57 billion. CONTEXT China ranks fourth as the biggest gold buyer from Peru, after Canada, India and Switzerland. Local production of the precious metal has grown in recent years, along with concern that increasing amounts come from illegal mines that do not meet environmental regulations and are fueling violence. Canada seeks meeting to address China's WTO complaint over steel tariffs

OTTAWA — Canada is defending its steel tariffs against China after Beijing lodged a complaint last week at the World Trade Organization. Beijing is taking issue with Canada's 25 per cent surtax on imports that contain steel melted or poured in China, calling the duties discriminatory and urging Ottawa to reverse course. Prime Minister Mark Carney imposed the tariff last month in a bid to protect Canada's domestic industry amid the United States' global trade war and allegations of steel dumping from some foreign markets. A spokesperson for International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu says Canada's tariffs are in direct response to China's efforts to act outside traditional market dynamics. Sidhu's communications director Huzaif Qaisar says Chinese overcapacity is undermining Canada's steel sector and threatening Canadian jobs. He says the tariffs are consistent with international trade obligations and Canada is pressing for a joint economic and trade commission meeting with China to put its concerns on the table. Why Taiwan Semiconductor Stock Tumbled Today

Key Points The U.S. government wants to take a 10% stake in Intel. It also wants to convert the free grant money that it already promised Intel into payment for Intel shares. The government may do the same thing to TSMC. 10 stocks we like better than Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing › Contract semiconductor manufacturer Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE: TSM) stock slid 2.2% through 12:22 p.m. ET Wednesday. Why? As you may have heard by now, President Trump is planning to take an equity stake in Intel (NASDAQ: INTC). All the cool kids are doing it Following passage of the Biden administration's CHIPS Act supporting the U.S. semiconductor industry, Intel was awarded $10.9 billion in grants. But as Bloomberg reports, the Trump White House is now negotiating with Intel to convert those grants into a 10% stake in Intel stock. But Intel wasn't alone in winning CHIPS Act grants. As CNBC points out, Taiwan Semiconductor (TSMC) was awarded $6.6 billion in U.S. government semiconductor subsidies. And now it seems U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick may want to convert that grant into an equity stake as well. What does this mean for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing stock? That's the question investors are pondering today: What does this mean for TSMC? If Commerce converts its $6.6 billion grant into a $6.6 billion investment in TSMC stock, it will effectively remove $6.6 billion in "free money" from TSMC's balance sheet. But TSMC would still get to keep the $6.6 billion -- in exchange for handing shares over to the government. It might also be better positioned to win further government subsidies. But what if the rumors prove false? What if the government invests only in Intel, and not in TSMC? That would seem to give the government a big incentive to make sure Intel "wins" the semiconductor market, perhaps at TSMC's expense. This is bad news for TSMC.
