Dehradun: Chief minister on Saturday, announced two key measures for the rehabilitation and relief of those affected by the recent disaster in Uttarkashi's Dharali village. He said Rs 5 lakh would be provided to families whose houses were completely destroyed and an equal amount will also be given to the families of the deceased as financial assistance. He added that compensation distribution is expected to begin within two to three days. "The govt's priority is to safely evacuate all people stranded in the valley, which has been nearly completed. Food, groceries, emergency lights, clothing, and other essential items are being continuously supplied through community kitchens. Electricity and network services have been restored in the village, and the road will soon be made operational for travel," he added. Dhami also announced that the state govt will supply the affected families with rations for the next six months. "Despite adverse weather conditions, over 1,000 individuals, including local residents and pilgrims from across the country, have been safely rescued. The injured have been admitted to the district hospital and AIIMS, where arrangements have been made to ensure they receive proper medical care," he said, adding that adequate supplies of medicines, milk, rations, and clothing have been delivered to the Harsil and Dharali areas. Mobile connectivity has been restored, and two 125 kV generator sets have been dispatched to the disaster area. "Road connectivity in the Harsiil area is being repaired, and the construction of a Bailey bridge in Ganganani is progressing rapidly. Roads affected by landslides will be repaired soon, and the road to Harsil is expected to be fully restored by Tuesday, allowing other tasks to be completed swiftly," he added.

Tiranga Yatra to be held today
Surat: At least 10,000 people are likely to gather for a Tiranga Yatra being held at Y Junction on Dumas Road on Sunday. Decorations and lighting have been put up around the spot for the celebration. Celebrations organized by the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) under the 'Har Ghar Tiranga – Har Ghar Swachhta' campaign ahead of Independence Day began on Aug 2, and several related activities have been carried out. For various events, a budget of about Rs 1.5 crore has been approved by the SMC. Of this, Rs 90 lakh was approved for the Tiranga Yatra to be held on a 2km route on Sunday. Earlier, a Tiranga-themed quiz was organized at SMC-run Suman High Schools, to instil national pride among students and make them aware of the historical and cultural importance of the tricolour. A total of 1,199 students, 569 boys and 630 girls, from 29 schools, participated. Through the MyGov website, at least 2,051 students took part in the online quiz. The municipal school board held a letter-writing activity at all schools, in which 5,445 students participated. Students wrote messages and made rakhis for soldiers and police personnel, which will be sent through the postal department. Various activities are planned across 390 schools and different parts of the city. These include wall cleaning and decoration with Tiranga-inspired art, rangolis, cleanliness drives, drawing competitions and rallies. Major roads, traffic circles, markets, shopping centres and transport hubs have been decorated with the tricolour theme, and selfie points have been created to encourage public participation. Ward-wise cleanliness drives, flag-hoisting events and cultural programs are also being held, involving elected leaders, citizens, NGOs and students from schools and colleges.
