Gareth Bale shuts down speculation as he sets the record straight – 'There won't be any'
Gareth Bale has rejected the idea of becoming a professional golfer, committing his impressive skills on the fairways as just a hobby for now. The Welsh footballing legend has also declined to comment on the subject of a potential plan to purchase Cardiff City.
The 36-year-old was spotted at the AIG Women's Open, hosted near his birthplace in Royal Porthcawl. However, when asked by BBC Sport Wales if he'd ever consider taking the sport up full-time, Bale was adamant that golf would remain a leisurely activity.
He said: "When you are in golf and you see professional golfers play, compared to even your best stuff, it is nowhere near. Never mind just playing with your friends, they are doing it under the most severe pressure, in tournament conditions, in hard weather... so there won't be any professional [golf] for me.
"But I love the game. I love watching it, I love growing it and that's why we are here."
On his golf routine, Bale added: "I try to play twice a week if I can – if I can get another practice session it's always a bonus."
While Bale enjoys his time on the golf course, his post-retirement days might be occupied with running the Bluebirds. Despite a "brand new offer" from Bale's group earlier this month, the ex-Real Madrid ace kept quiet when asked during the golf tournament.
Bale is part of a consortium with ambitions to take over his hometown club, having previously told Front Office Sports Today that the current bid on the table represents a "great offer."
Speaking earlier this month, Bale said: "It's exciting news, we have a brand new offer on the table, it's recently just gone in. We think it's a great offer, one that we're very happy with.
"We think it's very fair, if not more than fair, and it's something we hope the current owners will take serious.
"We'd love them to accept so we can take full control and get on with what we want to do and create Cardiff into a club that we know it can be."
Current Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan is understood to have little appetite for selling the club, though Bale remains optimistic that a deal could materialise down the line.
This comes as Cardiff prepare to launch their League One campaign on Saturday, hosting Peterborough United in an early kick-off.

Ryan Reynolds' £7.5m target's dad drops huge hint on record Wrexham transfer going through
A Wrexham transfer target's dad appears to have hinted that a record £7.5m move is close with a cryptic post, sparking fan excitement as the club gears up for the Championship Nathan Broadhead's dad appears to have dropped a major hint that his son is about to complete a move to Wrexham in a club-record deal. The Red Dragons, owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, were reported to have tabled a £7.5million bid for the Ipswich Town forward last week. Broadhead, who was previously part of Wrexham's academy, joined the Tractor Boys from Everton for £1.5m in January 2023. He played a key role in Ipswich 's back-to-back promotions from League One and the Championship, before being restricted to just seven Premier League starts last season. Now in the final year of his contract at Portman Road, talks over the Wales international's proposed move were initially understood to be progressing well. The deal looked to have stalled at the weekend though due to injuries and transfer interest in other Ipswich attackers. However, the 27-year-old's dad, Mark Broadhead, has offered hope to Wrexham fans after sharing a cryptic post from his personal Facebook account. Simply captioned "12 years later," it shows an image of a young Nathan playing for Everton in 2013, followed by one of him celebrating a goal for Ipswich last year. The final picture, titled "Now," shows Nathan sporting a Wrexham shirt while kneeling on the pitch at the Racecourse Ground back in his academy days. While the deal has not been confirmed by either club, supporters have taken it as a sign that his return is imminent after a screengrab of the post was shared on X by the Fearless in Devotion fan account. One person replied: "That's all the info we need." While someone else posted: "As good as an official announcement, that." Another supporter wrote: "Someone may have just let it slip also outside the ground too." Ipswich fans also seemed convinced, with one adding: "You've got yourselves one hell of a player. Good luck this season." Broadhead has bagged 23 goals in 83 appearances for Ipswich in total and his arrival at Wrexham would be seen as a big coup. The Welsh side are preparing for their first campaign in the second tier for 43 years after securing promotion from League One in April. Manager Phil Parkinson has so far signed eight players this summer as he looks to improve his squad. Sheffield United striker Kieffer Moore became the latest addition on Tuesday, joining on a three-year contract in a deal reportedly worth £2m. Wrexham face a tough start to the season as they travel to face relegated Southampton on Saturday in their opening game. Liberato Cacace is another new face who signed up last month from Italian outfit Empoli, and the left-back is looking forward to getting started. Explaining why he signed, he told the BBC: "There was interest in Italy, but for me, I'm a big football fan as well. I watch a lot of football and I've always watched English football, from the Premier League to the Championship so I know the level I'm heading into. "It was always a big dream of mine to play in the UK. Obviously Wrexham having so much publicity in the media as well you could see what the club was like. It's a very exciting project and I'm also very excited to start the season as well." He added: "I've already had chats with the players and with the manager and I think I'm settling in pretty well. I'm a professional person as well so I always like to keep fit. I'm going to use every day to make sure that against Southampton I'll be ready to go." Tonight's Cardiff City news as Tsunoda issues statement after exit and rising star catches the eye again
Tonight's Cardiff City news as Tsunoda issues statement after exit and rising star catches the eye again The latest Bluebirds news from Cardiff City Stadium Ryotaro Tsunoda and Ronan Kpakio of Cardiff City (Image: Cardiff City TV) Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Tuesday, August 5. Tsunoda issues statement after exit Ryotaro Tsunoda has issued a statement to Yokohama F. Marinos fans after bringing an end to a frustrating 18-month spell at Cardiff City - during which he failed to make a single appearance for the first team. The 26-year-old defender joined the Bluebirds in early 2023, arriving with promise from Japan. However, he was never handed a competitive debut, failing to feature under Erol Bulut, Omer Riza, Aaron Ramsey or, ultimately, Brian Barry-Murphy. Tsunoda has now sealed a permanent move back to J1 League side Yokohama F. Marinos, the club where he previously impressed before his switch to the Welsh capital. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community. The Yokohama side find themselves in the relegation zone upon his return and, in a heartfelt message to Marinos fans, Tsunoda admitted the return was not how he had envisioned his journey unfolding, but said he was determined to prove himself once again. 'Dear Marinos family, it's been a long time. I have recently decided to join the team on a permanent transfer,' he said. Article continues below 'This may not be the best timing or situation for either of us to meet again, so I can't proudly say, 'I'm back!' "I have thought a lot about the career I still want to pursue and about showing you all how I am making great strides overseas. However, given the current situation, I wanted to dedicate this moment to Yokohama F. Marinos, so I have returned with a strong resolve." The centre-back added: 'I will fight with all my heart so that F. Marinos can be F. Marinos, and so that they can be where they belong. I hope you will support me.' Tsunoda's departure means he leaves Cardiff without a single minute of senior football to his name, one of several overseas signings made during a turbulent recruitment period that failed to pay off. Cardiff have trimmed their squad considerably this summer following relegation to League One, with new head coach Barry-Murphy overseeing a rebuild ahead of the new season. Incomings are now expected to follow. Bluebirds hammer Wolves in friendly Cardiff's under-21s battered Premier League counterparts Wolves 5-0 in their final pre-season friendly. Darren Purse's side took on the Category One side in Leckwith as they gear up for the start of their Premier League Development 2 campaign - and ended in perfect fashion. Will Spiers, one of the rising stars who caught the eye of a number of fans for his impressive displays for Barry-Murphy's senior side in pre-season, scored twice from right-back. Captain Luke Pearce, another who is steadily scooting under the radar, also scored, while Jake Davies and Troy Perrett, who was reportedly subject of transfer interest from Aston Villa a few months back, were also on the scoresheet. Barry-Murphy will doubtless be keeping an eye on these performances, with the new head coach keen to give Cardiff's youth an opportunity, as evidenced by his youthful starting XI in the win over Peterborough United at the weekend. Cardiff's PDL2 campaign kicks off with a home tie against Sheffield United next Tuesday. Two Cardiff Vertu Trophy fixtures confirmed Cardiff City will kick off their 2025/26 EFL Trophy campaign with an away clash against Exeter City at St James Park on Tuesday, September 16. The Bluebirds have also announced their second group-stage fixture, which will see them host Newport County at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday, October 7. Details for the third and final group game, against Arsenal Under-21s, are yet to be confirmed and will be announced in the coming weeks. The top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, which will remain regionalised until the quarter-final stage.
