The five-match Test series against England will kick off from June 20 at Leeds. Heading into the series, there are question marks over which Tests the superstar bowler will play. During India's last overseas assignment in Australia, Bumrah did play all five Tests, racking up a record-breaking 32 wickets at an average of 13.06, but he walked off from the field midway the final Test at Sydney, during which he was captaining, denting India's chances of securing a series draw and consequently, lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to Australia by 1-3.
After missing first four games in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL), Bumrah made a return against eventual champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), taking 18 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 17.55 and becoming the heart of the franchise in their run till Qualifier two, where they lost to Punjab Kings (PBKS).
During the pre-departure presser ahead of the tour, head coach
Gautam Gambhir
said no call had been made about which matches he would play in the series.
"We have not taken that call, which three games is he going to play?" Gambhir said during a pre-departure press conference, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo.

"We are going to discuss with him, and depending on the series as well. A lot will depend on the results of the series, where the series is heading. That is something which I am sure he is very well aware of as well, and that is important," he added.
Speaking with Revsportz' Boria Majumdar, Arun said that too much bowling or too less of it, both can cause injury to a bowler.
"They are a perfect recipe for some bowler to get injured. So, obviously, we cannot control the number of overs that Jasprit Bumrah bowls in a match."
"But according to the number of overs he bowls in the match, the practice sessions can be toned down for him where he needs to be working on his recovery. It can be a strength training session in the gym or some recovery work with the physios."
"So, handling him will be very crucial. And as you rightly mentioned, Bumrah's presence in the team adds a huge value. Not only does he does well, he also rallies the other bowlers," continued the former bowling coach.
Arun also said that confidence in Bumrah adds a lot of value in the team.
"So, ideally, I would expect him to play all the Test matches. If there is very good support from the other bowlers, Bumrah can be preserved and play in all the five Test matches. If he is going to be bowling, taking a lot of the workload, then I am afraid he will not be ready for all the five Tests. So, how the other bowlers support him becomes very vital. So, we have got to take it as you go, rather than saying he is good for first three Test matches, then you need to give him a break. The other bowlers can help Bumrah play in all the Test matches if they are bowling really well," he concluded.
The Test squad includes Mohammed Siraj (100 wickets in 36 Tests), Prasidh Krishna (eight wickets in three Tests), Akash Deep (15 wickets in seven Tests), and Arshdeep Singh (uncapped) as the main fast bowlers. Also, Nitish Kumar Reddy (five wickets in five Tests) and Shardul Thakur (31 wickets in 11 Tests) have been picked as seam-bowling all-rounders. In a combined 62 Tests, they fail to outdo Bumrah's Test tally, having taken 159 scalps combined.
Bumrah has taken 205 scalps in 45 Tests at an average of 19.40, with best figures of 6/27 and 13 five-wicket-hauls.
The series will be held from June to August 2025, with matches scheduled at Headingley in Leeds, Edgbaston in Birmingham, Lord's and The Oval in London, and Old Trafford in Manchester. This will be India's first bilateral Test series since both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from
Test cricket
earlier this month. The team is undergoing a transition, with
Shubman Gill
taking over as captain and R Ashwin, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli stepping away from the longest format.

Guj delegation in London pitches for 2030 Commonwealth Games
Gandhinagar: A state delegation led by Harsh Sanghavi, minister for sports, Government of Gujarat, met senior officials from Commonwealth Sport in London as part of ongoing efforts to deepen understanding around the Commonwealth Games 2030 bid framework. The delegation also constituted representatives from Commonwealth Games Association India and ministry of youth affairs and sports, Government of India. Along with Sanghavi, senior IAS officers Ashwani Kumar, M Thennarasan, and Banchha Nidhi Pani also met Commonwealth Sports authorities. The proposals are expected to be submitted by Aug 31, and a decision on the selection of host city shall be made by Commonwealth Sport in Nov this year. Over two days of engagements in London, the Indian delegation participated in discussions and presented the preparations undertaken till now with respect to the bid. The Commonwealth Sport team mentioned that they will provide full support and collaborate with the interested host cities towards preparations of the proposals. "We believe that the Games of 2030 should be rooted in sustainability, community participation and above all athlete experience. Athletes are the heart of the Games and every decision we take will be shaped by their comfort, their needs and their performance," said Sanghavi. Emphasizing the importance of legacy for the games, Sanghavi said, "We are designing a model for hosting the Games that focuses on long-term impact rather than short-term spectacle using existing venues wherever possible and ensuring that the Games leave behind a meaningful legacy for local communities." During the interactions, P T Usha, president, Commonwealth Games Association of India, said, "India has a shared belief with Commonwealth Sport that sport has the power to unite nations, inspire youth, and foster social change. Kisik Lee Likely To Become India's Head Coach Ahead Of Los Angeles 2028 Olympics
Legendary Korean coach KiSik Lee, who led the USA to over 300 World Cup medals and three Olympic podium finishes, is all set to take charge as India's national archery head coach on a three-year contract in the lead-up to the Los Angeles Games 2028, a top Archery Association of India official confirmed to PTI on Saturday. The 67-year-old Lee has been shortlisted for the top job in the recurve section and the proposal has been forwarded to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for final approval. "Given his outstanding resume, he is the ideal candidate to guide India towards its first-ever Olympic medal in archery," the official said. "We've had several rounds of discussions with him, and he has agreed to commit to India till LA 2028." A bold gamble after years of heartbreak India's archery programme has long promised greatness but repeatedly faltered on the Olympic stage, often crumbling under pressure. Since Athens 2004, India has mostly relied on Korean foreign coaches, except for the 2012 London Olympics when the legendary Indian archer Limba Ram helmed the team. However, the results didn't change. Recently, Korean coach Baek Woong Ki was appointed as head coach at Paris 2024, but was denied accreditation due to the contingent exceeding its support staff quota. Preferred personal coaches and physios of top archers were prioritised, forcing Woong Ki to return to India before the Games began -- a controversy that underlined the lack of systemic clarity and cohesion. Why KiSik Lee? The AAI believes Lee brings more than just reputation. "He's not only a medal-winning coach but also a visionary who has transformed national systems -- something India urgently needs," the official said. Lee is globally respected for creating the USA's biomechanically sound "National Archery System" and mentoring multiple Olympic medallists, including world No. 7 Brady Ellison, who credits Lee with shaping both his career and character. "Coach Lee's impact is immeasurable," USA Archery CEO Rod Menzer had said when Lee announced he would step down after the Paris Games to focus on family. "He developed world-class athletes and inspired a generation of archers and coaches." Under his leadership, USA also won golds at indoor, outdoor, field, and 3D world championships. Lee was instrumental in nurturing youth talent through elite programs like the 'Junior Dream Team' and the 'Resident Athlete' programme at Chula Vista. Challenges and expectations Lee, who previously coached Korea and Australia, is known for using a drawing technique that is distinct from both the Indian and Korean methods. His appointment is expected to usher in technical innovation and mental resilience, glaring weaknesses in India's past Olympic campaigns. However, questions remain on whether India's senior archers, who often prefer personal coaches, will adapt. India's archery power couple Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari, who have seven Olympics in between them, recently roped in veteran Rahul Banerjee as their personal coach. The Army on the other hand have their own Korean coach. Dhiraj Bommadevara is the current Army man in the Indian team. "We have consulted the seniors, and we hope it will work out. If they want to continue with their coaches, that's fine. Lee can then focus on grooming young and mid-level talent," the AAI official added. "This is a long-term investment. He won't just train our elite archers but will also mentor grassroots talent and coaches. We are hopeful the results will reflect in Paris and culminate in LA 2028." The ball now lies in SAI's court and if approved, the Korean master tactician could be India's biggest hope yet to break its Olympic archery jinx.
