‘Keep your eyes open': Mum of missing German backpacker Caroline Wilga issues heartbreaking plea
Caroline Wilga has been travelling in Australia for the past two years and was last heard from by friends on June 29.
She was seen on CCTV at Beacon - about 333km northeast of Perth - on the same day.
Her mother, who is from Castrop-Rauxel in Germany, issued a heartbreaking plea on social media following her daughter's disappearance.
'I'm her mother and need her [sic] help, as I can't do much from Germany,' she wrote.
'Carolina is still sorely missed.'
She then issued a heartbreaking plea to others in the area.
'If anyone has any information, please contact the police,' she said. 'Please keep your eyes open!'
WA Police Commissioner Colonel Blanch told media on Wednesday homicide detectives were now going to the Wheatbelt region to investigate Ms Wilga's disappearance.
'They are investigating, not that it's a homicide at this point, but we want our very best capabilities to investigate something that is very concerning to us,' he said.
A spokesman told media police were conducting a land and air search to locate the missing woman.
'WA Police urge anyone with any information, or footage in the area of Beacon, WA, and the surrounding northeast Wheatbelt area between June 29, 2025 and July 4, 2025, to contact Crime Stoppers,' the spokesman said.
Ms Wilga has mostly stayed in hostels while she has been travelling, and works at mine sites.
She has a slim build, frizzy-curly long dark blonde hair, brown eyes and several tattoos, including a symbol on her left arm.
Police believe she is travelling in a black and silver 1995 Mitsubishi Station sedan with WA number plates 1HDS330.

Broome man handed suspended jail term after killing ex-partner's dog
A Broome man who killed his partner's dog has walked free from court after receiving a suspended jail term. Warning: This story contains details of injuries to an animal that some readers may find distressing. Broome Magistrates Court heard Regan Phillip Woodley, 32, lashed out at the 8-kilogram dog after an "explosive" argument with his then-partner in November last year. After Woodley left the property, the court heard the woman went to look for her dog, which later "wobbled back" to the house. The animal died as a result of its injuries. Woodley was charged under the Animal Welfare Act, and faced trial after pleading not guilty. Sentencing Woodley on Wednesday, Magistrate Deen Potter referred to evidence from a local vet who examined the dead dog's body. Magistrate Potter said the cross-breed suffered numerous broken ribs and had air present outside of its lungs, consistent with a "collapsed or punctured lung". The animal also had a fractured vertebra, which would have caused paralysis and impacted the dog's movements of its back legs. The magistrate told the court he could "not make a positive finding on whether he intended to kill the dog", but found Woodley had caused it grievous injuries. "I can't say it was malicious," Magistrate Potter said. "At the very least … [it was] emotional anger." Based on the evidence before him, the magistrate found the dog had been "kicked or run over" by Woodley on his scooter. Seated next to his lawyer, Woodley held his head in his hands during his conviction and sentencing, but did not say anything else. Magistrate Potter told the court Woodley "lashed out in a fit of anger" as he walked out of his partner's home, where two children and another person were present. The court heard Woodley and his partner were in a "dynamic situation", and had been in a verbal argument that had "escalated across the day". Magistrate Potter said the case was based on circumstantial evidence, as no-one saw Woodley have any physical interaction with the dog. But due to the credible evidence presented to the court at trial, he said a term of imprisonment was appropriate. Woodley was sentenced to seven months' jail, suspended for nine months.

17-year-old boy charged with killing nurse while riding an e-bike, as father claims he has no control over him
A 17-year-old boy has been charged with manslaughter after allegedly killing a 59-year-old nurse from Perth while riding an unregistered electric motorbike. Police allege the teenager was riding recklessly through the northern suburbs before the fatal collision. The boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is accused of hitting the nurse while riding an e-bike recklessly. Officers had reportedly attempted to stop the teen just five minutes before the fatal crash. The court heard one of the rider's tyres was damaged from travelling at high speed, causing him to lose control multiple times - but he still refused to stop. The prosecutor said the teen's dangerous behaviour began after he stopped taking prescribed medication, choosing instead to self-medicate with cannabis - which police later found in his bag. It was also revealed the boy has ADHD and autism and is currently on an NDIS plan. The court was told his parents are separated, he no longer attends school, and that his father had 'absolutely no control over his behaviour.' The teen is reportedly displaying obsessive compulsive behaviour in custody, frequently cleaning and mopping floors at the detention centre. Detective Sergeant Ollie Edwards said: 'We have seen various instances of e-rideables or electric motorcycles or similar involved in fatal crashes in Perth recently.' Police confirmed others were present in the park at the time and are appealing for anyone who saw the crash or has footage of the bike to come forward. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
