Inter Miami plays Cincinnati to 0-0 draw without suspended Messi

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Inter Miami played FC Cincinnati to a 0-0 draw without the suspended Lionel Messi on Saturday night.
Messi was not available after he and teammate Jordi Alba were suspended one match by Major League Soccer for skipping the All-Star game. Messi was still in attendance on Saturday, watching from a suite at Chase Stadium.
Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas called the punishment 'draconian' on Friday, saying that Messi was 'extremely upset" at the suspension that sidelined him for an important match as Miami pushes for its second-straight MLS Supporters' Shield.
Miami and Cincinnati both entered the matchup as winners of six of their last seven. Cincinnati, which routed Messi and Inter Miami 3-0 last Wednesday — is second in the Supporters' Shield standings with 49 points, while Inter Miami is fifth with 42 points.
Cincinnati defender Miles Robinson nearly scored the winner a couple minutes into stoppage time on Saturday when he headed home MVP candidate Evander's free kick, but the goal was disallowed because of a foul.
Veteran striker Luis Suarez made several incredible passes in the opening minutes, including one to Fafa Picault, whose header was denied by Cincinnati goalkeeper Roman Celentano.
Before the match, Miami introduced Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul, Messi's good friend and national team buddy who officially signed with the club on Friday. Fans at Chase Stadium cheered and waved welcome signs as the new Miami star walked onto the pitch.
'I'm going to give everything I have,' De Paul told the crowd.

Dolphins reach extension with DT Zach Sieler, make him their highest-paid defensive player

The Miami Dolphins have locked down Zach Sieler and made him their highest-paid defensive player. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] The Dolphins reached a three-year, $67.75 million contract extension with the defensive tackle on Sunday afternoon, his agents announced. He will now earn $22.5 million a season, which is more than double what he is currently making, and will get $44 million guaranteed. Sieler, who was a former walk-on player at Ferris State, was selected in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. He was released by the team a year later, though, and the Ravens picked him up off waivers during the 2019 campaign. He's been in Miami ever since. The 29-year-old team captain has erupted over the past two seasons, too. He's recorded back-to-back seasons with 10 sacks for the Dolphins, which has been the team-high, while averaging 59 total tackles. Before the 2023 season, he had only made 3.5 sacks in a single season. Sieler had signed a three-year, $30.75 million extension with the Dolphins before the 2023 season, and was due to be a free agent in 2027. He is now among the top-10 highest-paid defensive tackles in the league. '[Sieler is] the heartbeat of our defense,' Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver said, via the Palm Beach Post. The Dolphins went 8-9 last season and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2021, though the franchise still hasn't won a playoff game since the 2000 season. They'll open the season on Sept. 7 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. When Brian Schottenheimer was first promoted to head coach, he was tasked with getting the franchise back on track following a lackluster 2024 campaign. Now, he finds himself having to keep the team focused on the field while the organization deals with an ongoing saga behind the scenes. Now in the final year of his rookie contract, Micah Parsons is eligible to ink an extension with the Cowboys. Seeing that he's grown into one of the NFL's most impactful defensive players, he's in line for a sizable raise. Over the past few months, things have evolved from negotiations to a full-blown standoff. Earlier this week, Parsons took his frustrations to social media with a jaw-dropping message. He turned the football world on its side when he sounded off on how things have unfolded while requesting a trade from the Cowboys. When asked if he expects the All-Pro linebacker to be in uniform Week 1, he is hopeful things will eventually work themselves out. "Micah is a competitor. I hope to see Micah out there soon. When the business gets worked out, it gets worked out," Schottenheimer told reporters Saturday. Fellow top defensive stars such as Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt have landed deals that pay them around $40 million annually. Seeing that the Cowboys star is equally impactful of a talent, he is sure to command a similar price tag. He touched on how the rest of the group is putting all their time and energy into getting ready for the upcoming season. "Our guys are focused on what we're trying to build," Schottenheimer said, via The Athletic. "As we get closer to a game week, it's exciting. We got the (Los Angeles) Rams coming in here next week. There are plenty of things for us to focus on. We're almost through the install. Our guys have a very singular focus, and that's getting better and getting ready to have a hell of a practice today." Boston Red Sox Offered Trio of Top Prospects for All-Star

Teams had several months to work out deals, but as usual, the MLB trade deadline created a lot of last-minute activity, and the Boston Red Sox made some of the most aggressive offers. While the Red Sox did swing some deals, trading for Dustin May and Steven Matz, they came up short in their pursuit of a new No. 2 starting pitcher behind Garrett Crochet. Though, as WEEI's Rob Bradford tells it, the Red Sox's failure to add another frontline starter wasn't for a lack of trying. They reportedly offered two top-100 prospects to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for All-Star starting pitcher Joe Ryan. While a deal couldn't be struck, Boston offered various packages that included middle infielder Franklin Arias, outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia, and left-handed pitcher Payton Tolle for Ryan. Arias ranks 33rd on top 100 prospects list. Garcia and Tolle ranked 88th and 92nd, respectively. Boston also registered an interest in trading for Miami's Sandy Alcantara, who, like Ryan, didn't get moved before the trade deadline passed on July 31. In the end, the Red Sox weren't able to bolster the top of their starting rotation, but they clearly tried to be aggressive, up to a certain point. Related:
