MPD: Mom goes live on Facebook during shootout with toddler in car
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A Memphis mom was charged with child endangerment after she was involved in a rolling shootout last month in Frayser with a toddler in the backseat of her car. Lashon James, 47, is also charged with reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle. On May 18, officers responded to a shooting outside the Corning Village Apartments. Witnesses said they saw two males standing across the street from the apartment complex exchange gunfire with someone in a white Ford Fusion. According to police, surveillance video showed the Ford Fusion exit the Corning Village Apartments before the shots were fired. Investigators said they were able to link James to the white Ford Fusion and watched a Facebook Live that showed her in the car with her two-year-old daughter while she was shooting a gun and shots were being fired back at her. Police said the child's father also positively identified James as the person who had his daughter in a vehicle with her during the shooting. She is scheduled to appear in court on Friday. Donnovan Hayes, 18, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault. No formal charges have been filed as of June 5. According to a probable cause affidavit, police responded around 4:31 p.m. to a report of an individual with a gun in Siloam Springs. A white object resembling a firearm, later identified as an Orbeez gun, fell from the vehicle as one person exited, according to the affidavit. An alleged victim, parked nearby, told police the front passenger, Hayes, pointed what appeared to be a gun at them, leaving her and her children frightened. According to the affidavit, that Hayes denied pointing the gun at the victim. Arkansas Hooters location among dozens closed following bankruptcy filing Hayes told officers he was participating in a game involving Orbeez guns, plastic toy guns that shoot soft gel pellets, with about 30 others in the Northwest Arkansas area. Players reportedly used the Life360 app to track each other during the game. The affidavit states Hayes claimed he intended to shoot another participant in the game, not Berry, and said the game included rules prohibiting players from shooting people who are not involved. The two other occupants in the Ford were released, and Hayes was taken to the Benton County Jail. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
