Juspay-backed Namma Yatri's new feature to promote public transport
The new feature, Namma Transit, will help users check the best available routes from origin to destination and choose shorter and more cost-effective journeys.
The ride-hailing firm will look to monetise the service as it scales, chief growth officer Shan M.S. told Mint on the sidelines of the launch event on Friday.
'It has to be sustainable. There are many monetisation models to consider, and we will evaluate them based on how the service scales. Right now, the idea is to reduce the number of private vehicles on the road.'
The new feature will offer real-time information on which metro station to head to, which platform and gate to use, and when to switch modes. This is similar to details available on Google Maps, but more personalized for Indian road routes and metro timings.
Namma Transit is not expected to hurt Namma Yatri's core business model of cab and auto-hailing, as the initial stages of the rollout will incentivise auto drivers to accept rides to and from metro stations. 'First-mile and last-mile transport will become the core of all auto rides. Drivers loyal to metro rides will get the benefit of more rides,' Shan said.
The company envisions city development through a 70% public transport share, a 50% reduction in commute time and emissions, and improved first/last mile access, it said. Through its no-commission model for auto and cab drivers, it has completed over 1 lakh rides to date. Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad stand out among the top cities.
In July last year, Namma Yatri secured ₹ 92 crore ($11 million) in a pre-series A funding round led by early-stage investors such as Blume Ventures and Antler. The round gave the company a post-money valuation of $55 million. Google also participated.
In an interview with Mint, the company had said it plans to strengthen its presence in more than 15 tier-2 cities in south India, such as Mangalore, Kottayam, Madurai and Salem, among others, over the next few months, Shan had added. He explained that venturing beyond metro cities will be a natural progression for the mobility company.

Google Introduces ‘Guided Learning' in Gemini AI to Promote Smarter Studying Over Shortcuts
In a move to reshape how students use artificial intelligence in education, Google has unveiled a new "Guided Learning" mode within its Gemini AI platform. Unlike traditional AI tools that simply provide answers, this feature is designed to serve as a learning companion, encouraging students to deeply understand the material they're studying. According to Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Guided Learning aims to walk students through problems by offering 'questions and step-by-step support.' Pichai elaborated on the launch in a blog post, emphasizing that the tool is structured not just to deliver solutions but to foster comprehension. 3/ QuizzesTurn class materials into custom quizzes that can become flashcards and study guides with a tap. — Google Gemini App (@GeminiApp) August 6, 2025 The new mode blends AI assistance with educational psychology, integrating a variety of content formats to enhance the learning experience. Answers may come with supportive visuals, videos, and interactive quizzes, making the process more dynamic and less reliant on rote memorization. To develop the feature, Google collaborated with educators, students, learning researchers, and cognitive science experts. The result is a system Pichai describes as 'helpful for understanding new concepts and is backed by learning science.' This initiative comes at a time when AI companies are increasingly venturing into the education sector — not only to expand their services but also to combat growing concerns that AI tools are making it too easy for students to cheat. By focusing on learning rather than shortcuts, tools like Gemini's Guided Learning and ChatGPT's recently launched study mode are being positioned as legitimate educational aids. Despite these efforts, one lingering question remains: will students actually embrace these guided study features, or will they continue to seek out quick solutions? While the technology offers promise, its success may depend on how effectively it can motivate learners to engage with the content rather than simply extract answers. As part of the rollout, Google is offering a compelling incentive. Students aged 18 and above in select countries — including the United States, Japan, Indonesia, South Korea, and Brazil — can sign up for a free 12-month subscription to its AI Pro Plan. This offer is available through October 6 and is expected to give students an opportunity to explore AI-driven learning without any initial cost barrier. In addition to the Guided Learning feature, Google is making a broader commitment to the future of education. The company has pledged a $1 billion investment over the next three years to support American education initiatives. These include programs focused on AI literacy, research funding, and expanded access to cloud computing tools in academic environments. With this dual-pronged approach — enhancing AI's educational role and increasing accessibility — Google is signaling a clear intent: it wants AI to be part of how students learn, not how they avoid learning. Whether the shift from answer-giving to understanding takes root will depend not only on the technology's capabilities but also on how educators and learners choose to engage with it.

Google Pixel 10 series: New camera features, AI tools, and colours expected
Google Pixel 10 series could introduce Gemini-powered features like Camera Coach and conversational photo editing, enhancing how users capture and edit images New Delhi Google's upcoming Pixel 10 lineup is expected to debut several new AI-powered photo and imaging tools built on Gemini. As per a report from Android Headlines, the devices may offer features like a "Camera Coach" in the Camera app and "Conversational Photo Editing" in Google Photos, allowing users to enhance photos using text-based prompts. The new features are likely to be announced at the Made by Google event on August 20 where Google will be launching its Pixel 10 series smartphones. Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Buds 2a are also expected to tag along. Google Pixel 10 series: New Gemini features Camera Coach: The Camera Coach tool will reportedly use Gemini's visual intelligence to offer real-time tips while taking photos — helping users fine-tune framing, lighting, and angles. It aims to guide users toward capturing better shots directly through the Camera app. Conversational Photo Editing: This feature will allow users to edit images simply by typing what they want changed — for example, removing background elements or altering the scene — without manually selecting specific tools. While similar editing tools exist today, Gemini integration is expected to make the process faster and more intuitive. Google Pixel 10 series: What to expect The Pixel 10 lineup is expected to include four devices — Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold — all of which will reportedly run on the new Google Tensor G5 chipset. Built using TSMC's 3nm process, the chip is expected to deliver performance and efficiency gains, along with a new custom image signal processor (ISP) for improved photo and video output. On the camera front, the Pixel 10 and 10 Pro Fold might use the same main and ultra-wide sensors as the Pixel 9a, which would be a downgrade compared to the Pixel 9. However, Google may bring the 5x periscope telephoto lens from the Pixel 9 Pro Fold to the base model. Meanwhile, the Pro and Pro XL models are expected to retain the same camera setup as last year. The new Pixel phones are also expected to support the new 25W Qi2 magnetic wireless charging standard. Additionally, Google is reportedly preparing a new Pixelsnap accessory line, which will include custom magnetic wireless chargers and cases. Google is also expected to offer the Pixel 10 series smartphones in new colour options. The company has already previewed the Pixel 10 Pro in a blue-grey shade, likely to be called 'Moonstone.' Additionally, a new 'Indigo' colourway is expected for the base variant.
