Prediction: 1 EV Stock That Will Be Worth More Than Lucid 1 Year From Now
Key Points Lucid has struggled to ramp up its production over the past three years. Its track record of missed forecasts and broken promises can't be ignored. Archer Aviation has more irons in the fire than Lucid's luxury EV business. 10 stocks we like better than Lucid Group › Lucid (NASDAQ: LCID), a producer of luxury electric vehicles, attracted a lot of attention when it went public by merging with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) four years ago. That's mainly because it was led by Tesla 's (NASDAQ: TSLA) former chief engineer Peter Rawlinson, and it had already started delivering its first Air sedans. Yet, like many other SPAC-backed start-ups, Lucid overpromised and underdelivered. It originally set out to deliver 20,000 vehicles in 2022, 49,000 vehicles in 2023, and 90,000 vehicles in 2024. But in reality, its annual deliveries only reached 4,369 in 2022, 6,001 in 2023, and 10,241 in 2024. Lucid blamed that slower-than-expected growth on its supply chain constraints, intense competition, a challenging macro environment, and the delayed launch of its Gravity SUV. Peter Rawlinson also resigned from the CEO position this February, and the board still hasn't appointed his permanent successor yet. From 2022 to 2024, Lucid's revenue grew at a CAGR of 15% from $608 million to $808 million. However, its net loss widened from $2.56 billion to $3.06 billion. Its stock has declined nearly 90% since its first post-merger trade, but it still has a market cap of $8.6 billion -- or 11 times last year's sales. That high price-to-sales ratio suggests that some investors are hopeful that its Saudi Arabian investors (who own nearly two-thirds of its shares) can help it achieve its goal of more than doubling its production to 20,000 vehicles this year. That's why analysts expect its revenue to surge 71% to $1.38 billion this year as it narrows its net loss of $2.9 billion. I don't have much faith in those estimates, though. Lucid repeatedly missed its own expectations, struggled to scale up its business, and continues to dilute its shares as it racks up steep losses. So, instead of betting on Lucid's Hail Mary turnaround, investors should focus on a less valuable EV stock that might just grow faster and surpass its market cap within the next year: the electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft maker Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR), which currently has a market cap of $8.43 billion. Why could Archer Aviation have a brighter future than Lucid? Archer's Midnight eVTOL aircraft can carry a single pilot and four passengers, travel up to 100 miles without recharging, and reach a maximum speed of 150 miles per hour. Compared to helicopters, they're quieter, greener, and easier to land in crowded urban areas. Those advantages make them well-suited for short-range taxi services. Archer hasn't generated any meaningful revenue yet, but it ended its latest quarter with a massive backlog of approximately $6 billion. That backlog includes big orders from United Airlines, Future Flight Global, Soracle (a joint venture between Japan Airlines and the Japanese conglomerate Sumitomo), Ethiopian Airlines, Abu Dhabi Aviation, Stellantis, and the U.S. Air Force. Archer plans to start its first air taxi flights in Abu Dhabi later this year. In the U.S., it's waiting for the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) final approval for its commercial flights to start up its air taxi services. To support that expansion, it aims to produce 10 aircraft in 2025, 48 aircraft in 2026, 252 aircraft in 2027, and 650 aircraft in 2028. It also plans to launch its own first-party air taxi service within the next two years. If it achieves those goals, analysts expect its annual revenue to rise from $13 million in 2025 to $437 million in 2027. Archer's roadmap sounds ambitious, but its growing backlog could support those plans, and its nascent market is expanding. From 2024 to 2030, Markets and Markets expects the global eVTOL aircraft market to grow at a CAGR of 35.3% as they displace traditional helicopters. Archer has two strengths that Lucid lacks: an early mover's advantage in a nascent market, and a lot of pent-up demand for its products. Lucid entered the EV market long after Tesla and other EV makers saturated the market, and it quietly stopped disclosing the size of its reservation backlog (which had been shrinking) at the start of 2023. With a market cap of $7.5 billion, Archer doesn't look cheap at 17 times its projected sales for 2027. By comparison, Lucid trades at less than two times its estimated sales for 2027. But if Lucid fails to ramp up its production this year, its stock could easily be cut in half. Why could Archer become more valuable than Lucid? Archer still trades at a steep discount to its biggest rival, Joby Aviation (NYSE: JOBY), which trades at a whopping 70 times its projected sales for 2027. If Archer launches its commercial air taxi flights in the U.A.E. and gains the FAA's approval for its planned flights in the U.S., it might command a much higher valuation within the next 12 months. If Archer achieves those goals and its stock trades at 30 times its estimated sales for 2027 by then, its market cap would swell to $13.1 billion and eclipse Lucid's current market cap. As for Lucid, it could struggle to maintain its current market cap if it keeps disappointing its investors. Should you invest $1,000 in Lucid Group right now? 3 Brilliant Growth Stocks to Buy Right Now
Key Points This growth stock is up over 40-fold since 2015 and is still growing revenue at high rates. This e-commerce powerhouse operates in an environment where 85% of sales are still offline, giving it a long growth runway. This streaming stock could be at a turning point. 10 stocks we like better than Shopify › Building wealth in the stock market is not difficult. The biggest challenge is staying focused on the long-term potential of a business when market volatility strikes, as it inevitably will. As long as you invest in competitively positioned companies that have lots of room to expand over the long term, you're going to be successful. As the markets hit new highs at the midway point of 2025, three Motley Fool contributors believe Shopify (NASDAQ: SHOP), MercadoLibre (NASDAQ: MELI), and Roku (NASDAQ: ROKU) can make solid additions to a long-term investor's portfolio. Here's why these stocks are poised to deliver outstanding returns. An excellent stock to invest in e-commerce growth John Ballard (Shopify): Shopify has been an amazing performer for investors. The shares have rocketed from a split-adjusted share price of about $3 following its initial public offering in 2015 to around $120 today. But what makes Shopify a brilliant growth stock is that it is still growing revenue at over 20% annually, with potential to keep growing at high rates for a long time. The company's main driver of growth is not subscriptions to its platform, but merchant solutions, such as payment processing, shipping solutions, and capital lending. Shopify has reported 20% or more quarterly revenue growth for the last two years, with merchant solutions now comprising 74% of the business. Merchant solutions are a high-margin revenue stream for Shopify. Because of this, Shopify continues to invest in driving this side of the business. Over the last year, it doubled the number of markets for Shopify Payments. It is also launching free tools, such as which uses artificial intelligence to help merchants figure out how to reduce costs in their supply chain based on product details. Shopify's innovation is an advantage in building the go-to operating system for e-commerce. Of course, merchant solutions only grow if businesses using Shopify's platform are selling more and generating payment fees. This incentivizes Shopify to help merchants succeed. This forms a sort of partnership between the company and its merchant customers, which ultimately benefits the company and shareholders. E-commerce is a multitrillion-dollar market, yet the total value of transactions completed by a Shopify merchant in the last quarter was less than $75 billion, or $350 billion on an annual run-rate basis. The recent expansion of Shopify Payments to 16 new markets should help it further penetrate this opportunity to drive more growth. All signs point to Shopify growing substantially in the years to come. Great performance, tons of opportunity Jennifer Saibil (MercadoLibre): MercadoLibre is an e-commerce powerhouse serving Latin America, and it's demonstrating fantastic growth. Its population is underpenetrated in e-commerce, giving it a long growth runway. It also has a growing presence in financial services, and its wide-ranging businesses in areas that are still adopting technology mean it has years of growth ahead. In the 2025 first quarter, revenue increased 64% (currency neutral) year over year. Gross merchandise volume (GMV) was up 40%, and total payment volume increased 72%. It's also highly profitable. Operating income increased 45% over last year with a 12.9% margin. Although e-commerce is growing rapidly, physical stores still account for 85% of sales in the company's regions. As the leader in e-commerce, MercadoLibre has 5% of the total retail market, and it's helping to generate the shift over to digital shopping by improving its value proposition with speedy deliveries, an increased assortment, and more. It's working, and unique active buyers continue to increase, up 25% year over year to 67 million in the first quarter. Like Amazon, it's also monetizing its platform with a lucrative and growing advertising business. The fintech business is younger and growing even faster. Monthly active users increased 31% year over year in the first quarter to 64 million, and the credit portfolio increased 74%. The large incumbent banks in Latin America still account for the vast majority of banking in the region, but MercadoLibre is capturing market share through offering easy-to-use digital services and high yields on accounts. It's also expanding its platform with new products and features, and it's planning to open a fully digital bank in Mexico and Argentina. MercadoLibre stock is up 41% year to date, crushing the market. It's been especially attractive to investors this year since it has low exposure to tariffs, but it tends to beat the market at any time. With its well-run business and wide opportunities, it should continue to create shareholder value for the foreseeable future. This streaming stock could be ready for a breakout Jeremy Bowman (Roku): There's no doubt that Roku has struggled in recent years. The leading streaming distribution platform is still operating at a loss, even though streaming now has a larger share of viewing in the U.S. than broadcast and cable combined. The stock has been a laggard as well since a pandemic surge led to a collapse, but it could finally be ready to turn the corner. First, Roku said it expected to report an operating profit on a generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) basis in 2026, and the company's recent results continue to show it making progress toward that end. In the first quarter of 2025, the company reported revenue growth of 16% to $1.02 billion, and its adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) improved 37% to $56 million. Last month, Roku announced a new partnership with Amazon, integrating Roku's authenticated CTV footprint with Amazon's DSP (demand-side platform). The partnership gives Roku a new way to leverage its ad inventory and technology and neutralizes one of its closest competitors in streaming distribution. Additionally, the recent earnings report from Netflix showed that there's still robust growth in the streaming sector if Roku can take advantage of it. Meanwhile, Alphabet also showed off solid growth in its earnings report with advertising growth at 10%. Analysts are expecting 11% growth from Roku in the second quarter to $1.07 billion when it reports earnings in August. If the company can top that and take steps toward profitability, there's a lot of upside potential for the stock. Should you invest $1,000 in Shopify right now? Before you buy stock in Shopify, consider this: The Motley Fool Stock Advisor analyst team just identified what they believe are the 10 best stocks for investors to buy now… and Shopify wasn't one of them. 5 Brilliant Growth Stocks to Buy Now and Hold for the Long Term
Key Points Alphabet's AI strengths are being overlooked by the market. Amazon is using AI behind the scenes to become more efficient and drive growth. Meta Platforms and Pinterest are both using AI to drive advertising revenue growth. 10 stocks we like better than Alphabet › The artificial intelligence (AI) boom continues to drive growth and transform industries, but it's not just infrastructure players that are benefiting. Some of the best long-term opportunities are with companies deploying AI behind the scenes. Let's look at five brilliant AI-related growth stocks to buy and hold for the long haul. 1. Alphabet Investors continue to underestimate Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG)(NASDAQ: GOOGL), as they worry about AI disrupting its search business. But that view ignores what Google, its major component, actually does. This is a company built around content discovery -- not just traditional search -- and it's integrating AI into tools billions of people already use. And no other company is better at monetizing that content discovery through advertising than Alphabet. Its search data and digital ad network just cannot be matched. The Chrome browser and Android operating system give it unmatched distribution; Chrome is the default search engine on the majority of devices, giving it a huge built-in advantage. And a recent Oppenheimer survey revealed that users found Google Search's new AI Mode more helpful than not only traditional search but also ChatGPT. YouTube remains the world's largest ad-supported streaming platform. Google Cloud, Alphabet's cloud computing unit, is growing fast, helping companies build, train, and run AI models. Google is also becoming a chip leader. Its Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) are helping to power AI development, while its Willow quantum computing chip may be a future growth driver. And Alphabet subsidiary Waymo is expanding its robotaxi footprint. Taken altogether, Alphabet is one of the most innovative companies in the world, and one you want to own. 2. Amazon Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) is using AI to become even more dominant. While it's best known for e-commerce and cloud computing, the company's behind-the-scenes work is where the real long-term value is being built. On the logistics and warehouse side, Amazon is using AI to determine where to store inventory, create more efficient delivery routes, and even navigate hard-to-find drop-off points. Its robotics division just passed 1 million deployed units, and some of its AI-powered robots can detect damaged products or even repair themselves. Amazon also created a new AI model called DeepFleet that coordinates its entire robot fleet to help boost throughput. The company's largest and fastest-growing business is Amazon Web Services (AWS). It helps customers build AI models and apps with tools like Bedrock and SageMaker, and then has them run those programs on its infrastructure. It's also developed custom AI chips that give it a cost advantage, and continues to invest in AI infrastructure to meet rising demand. Overall, Amazon is well positioned for an increasingly AI-focused world. 3. Meta Platforms Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) owns one of the world's most valuable digital advertising businesses, and AI is making it better. Its Llama models are driving more engagement across Facebook and Instagram, boosting user time spent on the apps. That gives Meta more ad inventory to sell. It's also using AI to help advertisers create better campaigns and target potential customers, which is increasing demand and leading to higher ad prices. But Meta's growth story is just getting started. The company is only now beginning to serve ads on WhatsApp, which has over 3 billion users. It's also rolling out ads on Threads, its new social platform, which had 350 million users at the end of the first quarter. With two massive platforms still early in their monetization cycles and AI continuing to drive performance, Meta looks like a long-term winner in the AI-powered digital economy. But the company is not stopping there. CEO Mark Zuckerberg is spending aggressively to poach top AI talent. This is all part of an effort to -- as Zuckerberg says -- "deliver personal superintelligence to everyone in the world." If it's successful, Meta could become the top AI stock to own. 4. Pinterest Meta isn't the only social media company using AI to drive growth. Pinterest (NYSE: PINS) has been using AI to evolve into a more shoppable and advertiser-friendly platform. The company has built a multimodal model that understands both images and text, allowing for better personalization and powering new features like visual search. Users can now click on items within images and shop for similar products directly, making Pinterest far more transactional and more attractive to both users and advertisers. It's also working to simplify advertising on its platform. Performance+, its new AI-powered ad product, automates everything from campaign creation to targeting and bidding. That makes the platform easier to use for advertisers and helps them save time and drive better outcomes. Pinterest has a global user base that has historically been undermonetized, especially compared to those of its peers. But with AI improving engagement, search, and ad performance, the company has a big opportunity to start to close that gap. If it can continue executing on its vision of merging content discovery with commerce, Pinterest could be a breakout growth story over the long term. 5. Toast Toast (NYSE: TOST) has become one of the leading software platforms for the restaurant industry. What started as simply a point-of-sale system is now a full-stack software platform that helps restaurants streamline operations and drive more sales. Its newest tools -- like the AI-powered intelligence engine ToastIQ and the agent and assistant Sous Chef -- are designed to help restaurants make better decisions in real time. Meanwhile, the company said a restaurant piloting its new menu upsell tool saw average order volume increase by 6%, while another restaurant group testing its new AI-powered advertising tool saw more than a "10x return on ad spend" with Google Ads. Toast directly benefits from its customers' success, earning a cut of sales through payment processing. That creates a strong alignment between the business and its customers, so the company continues to innovate to help drive restaurant sales. Toast added 6,000 new locations in Q1 and now serves more than 140,000 restaurants. It's also expanding into chains like Applebee's and Topgolf, as well as adjacent verticals like hotel food service and retailers. It's slowly expanding overseas as well. Toast's pace of innovation and expanding customer base give it a long runway of growth. This makes it a growth stock you want to own for the long term. Should you invest $1,000 in Alphabet right now? Before you buy stock in Alphabet, consider this: The Motley Fool Stock Advisor analyst team just identified what they believe are the 10 best stocks for investors to buy now… and Alphabet wasn't one of them.
