Scottish Sun03-05-2025

THE FA CUP final has been given a brand new kick-off time just two weeks before the showpiece match at Wembley Stadium.

The new time was agreed following collaboration with the two clubs, broadcasters, local authorities, police and the Safety Advisory Group.
The FA Cup final has traditionally kicked off at 3pm - a time preferred by police.
FA insiders confirmed that discussions over the kick-off time were delayed, with broadcasters BBC and ITV at odds.
The Beeb wanted the game to start in the traditional 3pm slot - ensuring that even if the match were to go to extra-time or penalties there would be no overlap issues with the Eurovision Song Contest broadcast due to start at 8pm.

Furious Jude Bellingham loses his temper AGAIN as England star hounds assistant referee and boots a drinks cooler after controversial disallowed goal in Senegal defeat

Jude Bellingham was unable to contain his emotions after England 's 3-1 defeat by Senegal on Tuesday night, chasing down the fourth official before taking a swipe at a water cooler. The Real Madrid star was still reeling from the decision to disallow his later equaliser for a contentious handball in the lead-up to his strike. Bellingham, who had to be shepherded back onto the pitch by captain Harry Kane to applaud the England fans, booted a cooler after lashing a ball into the air after the final whistle. It was a frustrating night all round for the World Cup hopefuls, just 366 days before the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Thomas Tuchel, appointed on an 18-month contract in January with the stated aiming on winning the competition, made ten changes to the side that earned a narrow win against minnows Andorra on Saturday. The German had hoped to see a marked improvement in performance at the City Ground but instead suffered his first loss as England boss - the nation's first-ever defeat to an African side. Kane's 73rd international goal in the seventh minute of the match got England off to the perfect start before goals from Ismalia Sarr and Habib Diarra just after the hour gave the visitors the lead their display merited. The controversial call of the game came with just a few minutes of normal time to play when Bellingham thought he had grabbed a late equaliser. However, following a VAR review referee Stephanie Frappart was advised to take a second look at the incident. She subsequently chalked off the effort even though replays showed that, despite the ball hitting Levi Colwill's arm, it was not intentional nor was he the scorer - conditions that would normally merit cancellation. Kane slammed the decision which he was adamant was incorrect, while former England striker Ian Wright labelled the call 'pathetic'. Tuchel was also seen confronting Frapport and her team of officials in the middle of the pitch at full-time. Bellingham's distain for drinks coolers dates back to the final of the European Championship later summer, when he kicked out at the container after England's dramatic late defeat. On that occasion after the contest, the midfielder stormed off the pitch and kicked the cooler in frustration and could be seen sat on the England bench looking towards the pitch, appearing to be in a very thoughtful mood. Bellingham eventually returned to the pitch where he was consoled by England Kane and manager Gareth Southgate. Tuesday's defeat raises some concerns over the direction of Tuchel's squad who has precious little time and even fewer quality opponents before next year's World Cup. 'We'll we're not going to panic but for sure, we know that we need to be better,' Kane told ITV post-match. 'There are some ideas that are new for the guys, we have new players coming into the team who don't have experience at the international level. 'It's a mixture of things but there are no excuses. We need to find it quickly, we're not going to meet again for a few months but the World Cup is going to come around very fast so every camp is really important right now.'

Henderson fails to stake claim in Pickford absence

It was a rare sight - England's first-choice goalkeeper Jordan Pickford on the Tuchel handed Dean Henderson a chance to impress in the Three Lions' friendly against Senegal on Tuesday Henderson's start coincided with England conceding three goals for the first time in almost three years, with Senegal running out 3-1 was a busy evening for Henderson at Nottingham Forest's City Ground, the Crystal Palace keeper called into making six he was helpless to stop Senegal's first and third goals, Henderson will be disappointed he allowed Habib Diarra the time and space to tee up his shot and squeeze the ball through his legs for the visitors' is Henderson starting in goal a sign of things to come?Everton goalkeeper Pickford has been a mainstay in the Three Lions goal since making his debut in 2017, and started all Tuchel's previous three games in charge of England - taking his caps to the German head coach hinted at a changing of the guard last Henderson played an instrumental role in Crystal Palace's historic FA Cup win, and James Trafford - a reported target for Newcastle - amassed a stunning 29 clean sheets for Burnley, both will feel they deserve a shot at the number one shirt. Is Pickford's place under threat? The simple answer is yes, if Tuchel's quotes are anything to go by, that recently insisted it would be a "fight for every position", adding there was "no exception" for England boss went on to say: "He [Pickford] is doing everything to keep his place because he feels that Dean stepped up and found another gear. Dean got a vital title for Palace and he was a big figure. "This helped his confidence a lot. Then we have the very young James Trafford who played a fantastic, record-breaking campaign with Burnley and got clean sheets. Hopefully he can prove himself in the Premier League next season - and then the race is on." With just four international camps remaining before the World Cup next summer, Tuchel must implement his ideas and style of play imminently. Tuchel's remit was simple - to win the 2026 World Cup. In order to do so, he must be ruthless, and that could well start with his choice of goalkeeper. Tuchel also stated it would be "ideal" if his keeper was competing in European competition for his club - something Pickford will not be doing for Everton next rivals for the number one shirt, however, may well do so. Henderson will be lining up in the Europa League for Crystal Palace, while Burnley's Trafford is reportedly admired by Champions League contenders Newcastle."For the first time in a long time, Jordan Pickford could be facing serious competition going into the World Cup," BBC Radio 5 Live commentator Ian Dennis said."Pickford won't be playing European football with Everton, so the other two could close the gap on him." Hasn't Pickford been reliable? England's second-most-capped men's goalkeeper, behind all-time record holder Peter Shilton, Pickford has been a reliable performer for his country. He has only made one error leading directly to a goal (as classified by Opta), while his total of 10 clean sheets at major tournaments is a joint Three Lions record alongside consistency has meant he has started 76 of England's 100 games since his debut in 2017, including 15 of the past may not have the experience of playing European football at club level, but has featured in two European Championship finals and a World Cup semi-final for only match Pickford missed in the past 12 months was October's 3-1 win at Finland in the Nations League, when he watched from the bench as Henderson made his first international start under interim boss Lee Carsley."Pickford is going to have competition for his place, but I do think he will be the first choice when the World Cup comes around because he has never let England down," Dennis added. The goalkeeper race is on As mentioned above, Henderson created history with Crystal Palace when they beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final - the 28-year-old is in great form under Eagles boss Oliver is in a different situation. At 22 years old, he is the youngest goalkeeper in the squad by some first appearing in the Premier League during Burnley's relegation season in 2023-24, Trafford has improved considerably and is now reportedly a target for Newcastle. With Tuchel clearly a huge admirer of Trafford's, next season in the Premier League will be vital for him to stake his World Cup claim.
