As India gear up for their five-Test series against England beginning June 20 in Leeds, former England great Geoffrey Boycott has weighed in strongly on the absence of two Indian stalwarts -
Rohit Sharma
and
Virat Kohli
- calling Kohli's retirement a bigger blow.
In his column for The Daily Telegraph, Boycott wrote, 'The retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma hurts the chances of India beating England. Kohli is the biggest loss as he has been their best batsman and talisman in all three formats.'

While acknowledging Rohit's contributions, Boycott said the former captain 'won't be missed as much as Kohli,' citing Rohit's inconsistent Test form in the last couple of years.
'Rohit was never a natural athlete like Kohli... the wear and tear of opening the innings and being captain in all three formats wore him down,' he added.

Who do you think will be missed more in the Indian lineup against England?
Virat Kohli
Rohit Sharma
Both players retired from Test cricket in May, leaving significant voids in India's lineup - particularly in the top order and at No. 4.
Turning attention to the hosts, Boycott had a word of caution for Ben Stokes and Co., fresh off a Test win over Zimbabwe. He warned that England must moderate their aggressive "Bazball" approach if they are to dominate a transition-phase Indian team.

'England should beat India if they temper Bazball and use some common sense,' Boycott wrote. 'It's no use telling us how good you are when you haven't made a single WTC final at home. They should be embarrassed.'
Calling England a "one-trick-pony," Boycott urged, 'Being a winner is better than being known as an entertainer... Bring your best game and apply some cricket nous.'

Shubman Gill to bat at No. 4 in Headingley Test, Rishabh Pant at 5; but where does that leave Karun Nair?

India's newly-appointed Test captain Shubman Gill will bat at no. 4 in the opening match of the five-Test series against England, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant confirmed on Wednesday. With Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma stepping away from the longest format ahead of this tour, two massive vacancies opened up in India's batting order, and Gill is set to occupy the position long held by Kohli. 'I think there is still discussion going on for no.3. But no. 4 and 5 are fixed. Shubman is going to bat at no.4, and I'm going to stay at no.5 as of now. Rest, we will keep discussing,' Pant told the media during a press conference. The first Test begins June 20 at Headingley. Gill, who has led the Indian team in T20Is during their tour of Zimbabwe last year, has long been viewed as a leader-in-waiting, and will now assume full charge in Test whites. His shift to No. 4 has largely aligned with expectations and India will hope that it retains the stability to a batting order in transition. The No. 4 spot, once considered immovable during Kohli's era, now finds its successor in a batter known for his calmness, flair and adaptability. Pant, who is also the vice-captain, has batted at no.5 throughout India's 2024/25 Test season. Ahead of the first Test, many opined that Karun Nair could be India's new no.5, with Pant shifting to sixth spot; however, the wicketkeeper-batter has quashed those speculations. What remains unresolved, however, is the puzzle around the No. 3 spot. Karun Nair, who forced his way back into national reckoning with a glut of runs in domestic cricket and then topped it off with a stunning double hundred in the tour match against England Lions, is a frontrunner. His return to the Indian setup has been among the most talked-about comebacks in recent times, and he seems primed to slot in at one of the top three positions. However, India's decision could hinge on whether they hand a debut to left-hander Sai Sudharsan, who earned his maiden Test call-up on the back of consistent performances across formats. If Sudharsan is picked in the XI, it may force India to rethink their middle-order configuration. Given Karun Nair's traditional role as a top or middle-order anchor, it is unlikely the team management would push him down to no. 6, which would be an unfamiliar territory. That dilemma makes the no. 3 selection all the more crucial, especially with England's bowlers expected to exploit the early movement at Headingley.

Patrick Mahomes chooses dad bod over abs because it helps him win Super Bowls

Patrick Mahomes' trainer reveals why the Chiefs star keeps a 'dad bod' intentionally (Getty Images) Turns out, Patrick Mahomes isn't chasing abs, he's chasing rings. The Chiefs' star quarterback is going viral again, not for a no-look pass or another playoff miracle, but for rocking what his trainer proudly calls a 'dad bod. ' And before anyone starts clowning, there's a legit reason behind it. Mahomes is built different and fans are loving the fact that one of the greatest QBs in the game is redefining what a football body should look like. Patrick Mahomes' trainer says the 'dad bod' is intentional and it's built for contact, not clout Bobby Stroupe, Mahomes' longtime trainer dropped some gym-floor wisdom. In a recent interview, he said Mahomes is supposed to have around 14% body fat. Why? Because that body composition helps him absorb hits better and stay healthy during the grind of an NFL season. 'I think an NFL quarterback should have at least 14% body fat,' Stroupe said. 'From a force absorption standpoint, you have to be able to take contact.' That's not just bro-science either, he's talking about real functional durability. Stroupe even added, 'Not a lot of QBs in the Hall of Fame have a six-pack,' which sent NFL Twitter into a tailspin. This isn't the first time Mahomes' body has been a hot topic. Remember that viral locker room photo after the AFC Championship win? Shirtless Mahomes broke the internet and not for the reasons most athletes do. Fans had jokes, but Mahomes leaned into it, saying his abs are 'there, you just have to squint.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Het meest ontspannende boerderijspel van 2025. And fans? They're obsessed. NFL fans and media are fully backing the dad bod QB era Social media's got Mahomes' back on this one. From memes to motivational posts, fans are all in on the idea that you don't need shredded abs to dominate the league. Even fitness experts have weighed in, saying that a little extra body fat can actually protect against injury, especially for QBs who get hit as often as Mahomes does. TL;DR? This might just be the most genius fitness strategy in the league. Forget the six-pack. Mahomes is out here building a legacy, one Super Bowl at a time and if that means maintaining a dad bod for durability, then so be it. In a league obsessed with aesthetics and combine stats, he's proving that smart training > shredded abs. India's Tour Of England 2025: A Brief History Of IND In ENG

Ahead of India's 2025 tour of England, here is a look at the history of the Indian cricket team's performances on English soil. Team India are slated to take on England in a five-match Test series slated to begin on the 20th of the month as new skipper Shubman Gill gears up for his captaincy debut on the former coloniser's territory. Ahead of India's 2025 tour of England, here is a look at the history of the Indian cricket team's performances on English soil. India and England share a long history, with the Men In Blues' first tour of England coming all the way back in the year 1932, which went the way of England as the hosts clinched the only game of the tour. India returned in the year 1936 to claim their first draw on English soil, but fell to a 2-0 defeat in the three-match series between the two nations. It was a decade before Indian faced the Englishmen on enemy territory again, but this time in 1946, the Indian side managed two draws in a three-game series that ended in favour of England, who had registered a win. In 1952, the Englishmen posted yet another series win in a four-match series as the hosts managed three wins and a draw. Things got worse for the tourists in 1959 as the English unit blanked Indian in a 5-0 drubbing, before emulating the feat in a three-game series in 1967. 1971 was a historic year for Indian cricket as the visitors picked up their first Test win on English solid and eventually the series as Team India finished the three-match-series with a win, two draws and absolutely no defeats. The English restored their supremacy in 1974 with a 3-0 series win, before edging out their rivals in a four-match series in 1979. England picked up a slender win in the following 1990 three-match series with two games ending in a draw and the hosts triumphing in the other, before replicating the same six years later when India came visiting. The 2002 season of India's tour to England finished in a stalemate as both sides won a game each while sharing the spoils on two occasions in a four-match series. But, India took the 2007 series all to themselves as they picked up a win and pulled off a couple of draws to close out the three-game tour as winners. England enjoyed a whitewash of Indian in the 2011 series, winning all four Tests in the tour. The Three Lions also clinched the five-match 2014 series 3-1 and did one better with a 4-1 series win in 2018. The most recent Indian Test tour of England, in the year 2021, remains fresh in the memory of fans as India fought to split the series 2-2, with the other game finishing in a draw.
