Sarawak approves 82 resettlement projects
KUCHING: A total of 82 projects under the Resettlement Scheme (SPS) and Village Expansion Scheme (SPK) have been approved as of April 30 under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) and the People's Project, said Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
He said the overall project provides a total of 7,932 housing lots with an estimated cost of RM1.5 billion.
'Of the total, 25 projects are completed while the implementation of the remaining 57 projects will continue until the end of the 12MP and in the 13MP,' he said when winding up on behalf of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development at the State Assembly here today.
Awang Tengah, who is also the Second Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development, said that since 2018, infrastructure development for the scheme has been implemented with new specifications involving the construction of, among others, paved roads, concrete drains and water and electricity supply reticulation systems, involving an average cost of RM150,000 per lot.
'However, taking the people's welfare into consideration, the government has set the land premium payment at no more than RM2,500, which can be paid in annual instalments for up to 10 years,' he said.

SINGAPORE: Former Singapore Transport Minister S. Iswaran has completed his sentence and is no longer in prison custody, local media reported. The Singapore Prison Service (SPS) said on Friday that he has completed his emplacement on the Home Detention Scheme, The Straits Times (ST) reported. The 62-year-old was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment by the High Court on Oct 3, 2024, after pleading guilty to four charges of accepting valuable items as a public servant and one charge of obstruction of justice. He began serving his sentence on Oct 7, 2024, and was placed on home detention on Feb 7 this year, after being assessed as suitable for the scheme.

2 Japanese firms plan RM6.38bil projects in Sarawak

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Two major companies from Japan plan to invest US$1.5 billion (RM6.38 billion) in the high-tech and chemical industries in Sarawak. According to a report by TV Sarawak today, Sarawak deputy premier and international trade, industry and investment minister Awang Tengah Ali Hasan is in Osaka, Japan, to discuss details of the investments. Bernama reported that one of the projects involves the construction of a semiconductor-grade polycrystalline silicon production facility by Japan's Tokuyama Corporation, in collaboration with South Korea's OCI Company Ltd. The investment is estimated at about US$435 million. 'This project has the potential to position Sarawak among the top five global locations in high-performance semiconductor production technology,' the report said. Another planned investment involves a consortium of Japanese companies in the chemical sector, with the investment estimated to reach US$1 billion. Feasibility studies and site evaluations on these two projects have begun. The Sarawak government will expedite the approval process for a smooth implementation. 'We offer a stable and competitive business environment, equipped with modern infrastructure and a skilled workforce,' said Awang Tengah.
