Athar – Saudi Festival of Creativity has extended the final deadline for its speakers applications, now accepting submissions until 23 May 2025. The festival, which returns for its third edition from 21–22 October 2025 at JAX District – Diriyah Biennale Foundation in Riyadh, invites local and international voices from across the creative marketing industry to take the stage. Proposals can be submitted via the festival's website.
Presented by Motivate Media Group and TRACCS, Athar Festival 2025 is set to build on the momentum of previous editions with a larger venue, broader content streams, and a sharpened focus on global collaboration. This year's edition is expected to host more than 3,000 attendees from across the marketing, advertising, media and communications industries – spanning brands, agencies, creative professionals and students.
Positioned as a platform to showcase Saudi Arabia's emergence as a regional and global creative force, Athar Festival 2025 will feature more than 150 speakers, more than 80 brand activations, and expanded programming across three content stages. The event also introduces new additions aimed at enriching the attendee experience, including an all-new Talent Hub for emerging professionals, a dedicated startup exhibition space, and longer festival hours from 10 AM to 10 PM each day.
'As Saudi Arabia continues to push the boundaries of creative excellence in alignment with Vision 2030, Athar Festival remains a vital force in shaping the industry's future,' said Ian Fairservice, Chairman of Athar Festival and Managing Partner of Motivate Media Group. Building on the success of the 2024 edition, which drew more than 1,700 attendees, the 2025 festival will introduce four new content streams under its expanded format. The Creative Impact stream will focus on brand storytelling, advertising and marketing. Future Forward will address AI, machine learning, and data-driven marketing, while Screen & Influence will explore media distribution, influencer marketing, and content creation from an advertising lens. Luxury & Lifestyle will delve into marketing strategies across fashion, travel, hospitality and premium experiences.

In addition to the main conference agenda, the festival will also expand the Athar Awards, now aligned with the four newly introduced content streams. The awards will span two days: the first dedicated to celebrating individual and team excellence in Saudi Arabia, and the second recognising standout campaigns within the Kingdom's marketing and communications sector.
The festival's agenda will include keynote sessions, workshops, immersive activations and curated networking opportunities. International trade delegations are also expected to participate, further integrating the Saudi creative economy with global players and partners.

Day 1 – Technology, innovation and design The 17th edition of the event opened with a welcome address by Ravi Kumar Chandran, Founder & MD of GBB Venture. The address highlighted the organiser's milestone achievement of 25 successful events, followed by a speech by Rui Lourenço Pereira, Deputy Director at Commercial Department of AICEP (Portuguese Trade & Investment Agency), who shared a message of cross-continental partnership, setting the tone for a summit rooted in collaboration. What followed was a series of fast-paced, thought-provoking sessions that spotlighted bold innovations shaping the future. Ron Bakker, Founding Partner at PLP Architecture, shared visionary insights from 'The Edge,' a smart, sustainable office building redefining how we think about workspaces. Pablo Vidarte, CEO of BIOO, introduced groundbreaking technologies including soil-powered batteries and bioluminescent plants, merging nature and innovation. Harmen De Jong, Regional Partner & Head of Consulting at Knight Frank, unpacked key market trends and demand-supply insights shaping the Kingdom's future. The momentum continued with 'Designing the Iconic,' a presentation series where Maximilian Zielinski, Senior Partner at Foster + Partners, Viggo Haremst, Partner & Design Director at Henning Larsen, and Mark Kennedy, Head of Design at MAGNA – NEOM, shared bold visions behind structures designed to last for generations. This was followed by an intense panel discussion: 'Market Dynamics & Mega Events Reshaping the Industry,' moderated by Tala Michel Issa, Chief Reporter at Arabian Business, which featured panelists – Dr. Bassam Boodai, Board Member & Investment Committee Chairman at AL MOZAINI Real Estate and Eng. Saudi budget deficit shrinks to $9.21bln as oil, other revenues rise

Saudi Arabia's budget deficit narrowed to 34.534 billion riyals ($9.21 billion) in the second quarter, marking a 41.1% decline from the previous quarter, as oil and other revenues rose, the finance ministry said on Thursday. Oil income rose by 1.28% to reach 151.734 billion riyals, the ministry said. The world's top oil exporter saw its total revenues climb by nearly 14.4% to 301.595 billion riyals in April to June, of which 149.861 billion riyals came from non-oil industries, while public spending, rose 4.28% quarter-on-quarter to 336.129 billion riyals. The kingdom's oil exports in May rose to their highest in three months, data from the Joint Organizations Data Initiative (JODI) showed, as the OPEC+ group - comprising OPEC and allies such as Russia - began to unwind cuts of 2.17 million barrels per day (bpd) in April with a boost of 138,000 bpd, followed by further increases in recent months despite falling oil prices. In the first quarter, the kingdom's budget deficit widened significantly on a year-on-year basis to $15.65 billion from $3.30 billion in the same period a year earlier, as oil revenues dropped 18%. Lower oil prices have weighed on Saudi Arabia's revenue, with the kingdom projected to post a fiscal deficit of around $27 billion this year. Still, the country has pushed forward with spending on a massive economic transformation programme known as Vision 2030 that aims to diversify its revenue sources to wean its economy off its dependence on oil. A 12-day air war between Israel and Iran in June amplified geopolitical risk across the Gulf and raised concerns over regional stability that might threaten to slow foreign investments and tourism in the kingdom, though it briefly spiked oil prices by up to 7% on June 14 when the war first broke. In June, the International Monetary Fund raised its 2025 GDP growth forecast for Saudi Arabia to 3.5% from 3%, partly on the back of demand for government-led projects and supported by the OPEC+ group's plan to phase out oil production cuts. Saudi Arabia's public debt stood at 1.38 trillion riyals by the end of the second quarter, the finance ministry said in its statement.
