Court gives nod for fugitive criminal's extradition to UK to face trial in sexual offence case
NEW DELHI: A Delhi court has permitted the extradition of Naijil Paul, a British citizen of Indian origin, to the United Kingdom to face trial for multiple sexual offences. Paul is wanted by authorities in Scotland for charges including rape, sexual assault, and indecent communication involving three women.
The order, passed by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Pranav Joshi on June 9, followed a formal request made by the UK government. Paul had earlier consented to his extradition, leading the court to drop the cross-examination of witnesses in the matter. Paul, a fugitive criminal, had fled to India after the charges were framed against him.
He was arrested in Kochi, Kerala, and later transferred to Delhi, where he has been in judicial custody. The Ministry of External Affairs had received the extradition request from the UK, following which proceedings were initiated on December 24, 2024. 'It is requested that the Union of India extradite the fugitive criminal Naijil Paul to the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to stand trial on charges before the High Court of Judiciary at Glasgow, Scotland, through diplomatic channels,' the order stated. The court directed that Paul remain lodged in judicial custody at the Tihar Jail complex until all extradition formalities are completed. Additionally, the Jail Superintendent has been instructed to produce him before the court via video conferencing every seven days until his transfer.
According to case records, Paul is accused of committing the alleged offences between January and August 2018, while working at a care home in Hamilton, Scotland. He appeared before the local sheriff court in August 2018 and again in January 2019, during which charges were officially framed. However, he failed to appear for a hearing before the High Court of Judiciary on December 4, 2019 — a day after fleeing to India. A warrant was issued for his arrest shortly thereafter.
Special Public Prosecutor N K Matta appeared on behalf of the Central Government, while advocates Atul Maliyan and Bibin John represented Paul during the extradition proceedings. Paul will now be handed over to UK authorities.

According to the details, the British F-35B Lightning II jet landed in Thiruvananthapuram International Airport due to a suspected hydraulic issue. The British jet was on routine flight outside Indian airspace when it developed a technical fault and diverted to the southern Indian airport. Meanwhile, screenshots from the OLX were posted on social media by users, claiming the aircraft was up for sale for $4 million. The viral post, however, is fake. But, no such post was found on OLX's official website. Looking into the details, the items for sale for the F-35 fighter jet were priced in US dollars, suggesting the post was fabricated. However, social media users took a swipe and commented on the incident. One wrote, "Someone put a UK F-35B fighter jet up for sale on OLX🤣 kaise kaise log rehte hai yahan.." Another wrote, "British F-35B Fighter Jet is on sale for only $4 million in Kerala, India. The description is wild...." Though the root cause of the emergency landing of the British jet is said to be a technical fault, the fifth-generation combat jet is still stationed at the airport for a third day. Shortly after the incident, technicians from the carrier arrived to begin inspection and repairs. Six of them returned to the ship on Tuesday afternoon, while three personnel – including the pilot – remain at Thiruvananthapuram to oversee the rectification efforts. The pilot has been resting in the airport's apron office area and the aircrew were moved to the Emergency Medical Centre after the incident, as per the precautionary protocol. Fake overseas job racket busted in Hyderabad
Two individuals running a fake overseas job racket targeting unsuspecting job-seekers with promises of employment abroad and visas, were arrested by the South Zone Task Force of the Hyderabad police along with Lalaguda police. The arrested individuals were identified as 40-year-old Naseem Banu from Nacharam, and 23-year-old Syed Adil from Begumpet. Two other accused - Fathima and Rekha, both residents of Hyderabad – remain at large. The police seized nine Indian passports, five visiting visa copies, and two mobile phones were seized from the arrested duo. According to officials, Naseem Banu had established a consultancy named World Wide Overseas Consultants (WWOC) in Tarnaka, Secunderabad, with the sole goal of duping people. Using social media platforms like Facebook, she advertised attractive offers for jobs and visas to countries such as Singapore, Australia, Russia, and Mauritius. Victims from Hyderabad and Nizamabad were lured with promises of overseas placements and paid sums totalling over ₹35 lakh. They submitted their passports for visa processing, only to be handed fake visas and fabricated job offer letters. When the victims demanded refunds, Banu reportedly cut all communication, vacated the office premises, and went underground. Both Naseem Banu and Syed Adil have a prior criminal history, with cases registered against them under the Emigration Act at Lalaguda and Balkonda police stations. The consultancy was earlier operated in Armoor for a brief period in 2024, indicating a pattern of repeat offences. Investigation is underway.
