World Junior Squash C'ships: Anahat Singh ends 15-year-long medal wait for India
The 17-year-old, who was seeded second in the women's singles draw, suffered a loss to Egypt's Nadien Elhammamy 3-0 (11-6, 14-12, 12-10) in the semi-finals at the Black Ball Sporting Club, as per Olympics.com.
Earlier in the quarterfinals, Anahat beat Egypt's Malika Elkaraksy 3-0 (11-6, 13-11, 11-5) to seal herself a bronze medal.
"I had lost in the quarters for three years in a row, and I'm really glad I was able to reach the semi-finals this time," Anahat Singh said after her quarterfinal win as quoted by Olympics.com.
Anahat was the only Indian out of eight semifinalists. 54th in the world rankings and the reigning U19 Asian girls' champion, was the only seeded Indian in the women's draw.
She had also secured the senior Asian titles in the women's and mixed doubles earlier this year and also made her World Championship debut in Chicago. She has also won plenty of PSA Challenger titles since her two-team bronze medals in the Asian Games Hangzhou back in 2022.
Anahat is now the first Indian to win a medal at the World Junior Championships since Dipika Pallikal secured a bronze in 2010.
However, no Indian has won a gold medal at the event, with Joshna Chinappa (silver in 2005), denied a gold medal 20 years ago.
A total of 234 players are participating in the ongoing championships, which feature individual events until July 26 and team events until August 1.

"The idea was to back each other up every time we're bowling": Prasidh Krishna on team spirit in pace attack
London: After being put on the back foot by England's explosive start on Day 2 of the Test match, India's pace attack staged a brilliant fightback, led by Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, with Akash Deep playing the supporting role. England raced to 92 for no loss in just 12.4 overs, with Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley looking dangerous but Akash Deep struck gold when he removed Duckett for 43, triggering the breakthrough that saw wickets fall at regular intervals. Siraj and Krishna ended with figures of 4/86 and 4/62, respectively, while Akash Deep returned with 1/80. The Indian cricket team posted a video of Krishna and Siraj on their official Instagram handle. Prasidh Krishna opened up about the bond shared within India's pace unit, "With Siraj, we've been playing a lot, I mean, it's been five years now, including time spent together in the IPL (Indian Premier League). We sit together a lot, spend time together. It's the same with Akash Deep. I think the fast bowling unit is looking pretty good." Krishna also spoke about how he has worked on his bowling between games to bounce back stronger, "We did put in a lot of work. The intensities were different, the areas I was bowling were different. I think I can say I learnt from the two games I played, and was working on what I could do better." During the break, the three pacers had a brief but impactful conversation. "We said, whatever happened has happened, now we know what needs to be done. The idea was to back each other up every time we're bowling. If something needs to change, we just go up to each other and keep reminding ourselves, and get on the same page with our plans," Krishna explained. He added, "We're really happy. We enjoy each other's company and make sure we push one another, keep encouraging one another to do better and that's what we're doing." Siraj, who has played all the Tests in the ongoing series, echoed the sentiment and underlined how conditions in England favour fast bowlers. "I told Jassi bhai that, 'why you're going? Whom will I hug when I take a fifer?' Jassi bhai said, 'I'm here only, you take a fifer," Siraj said. The Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been released from the Indian squad for fifth Test against England, currently in progress at The Oval. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a statement, saying, "Jasprit Bumrah has been released from India's squad for the fifth Test of the series against England. The fifth and final Test of the series is underway at Kennington Oval, London." "In England, everyone likes to play because there's more swing, and the wicket helps fast bowlers," Siraj noted. Reflecting on the team's comeback, Siraj said, "After such a bad session, making a comeback like that, it's a lot of fun as a fast bowler. When you're given 100% responsibility, it feels great. I talk to the bowlers, explain to them what to do and what not to do, it's something I really enjoy." Siraj also touched on his personal journey and work ethic, "From childhood till now, I've worked hard to get here but my mindset remains the same, I must give my 100%, whatever the result may be."

WCL confirms India Champions, Pakistan Champions semi-final match called off: Pakistan advances to final
Birmingham: Indian Champions have pulled out of their World Championship of Legends (WCL) semifinal clash against Pakistan Champions, due to tense political relations between both nations, as a result, Pakistan Champions have advanced to the final of WCL, according to a statement from WCL. This ends India's journey in the six-team tournament at fourth place, with a win, a no-result and three losses. The semifinal was originally scheduled for Thursday, but now, the Pakistan Champions will advance to the finals, facing off against either the Australia Champions or the South Africa Champions, who are playing the second semifinal. "At WCL, we have always believed in the power of sport to inspire and bring about positive change in the world. However, public sentiment must always be respected --after all, everything we do is for our audience. We respect the India Champions' decision to withdraw from the semi-finals, and we equally respect the Pakistan Champions' readiness to compete. Taking all factors into consideration, the match between the India Champions and the Pakistan Champions has been called off. As a result, Pakistan Champions will advance to the final," A statement from WCL stated. Notably, the Indian Champions side, consisting of stars like Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Robin Uthappa, Yusuf Pathan, etc, had earlier also refused to play their group stage match against Pakistan Champions on July 20. While both teams had shared the points after India's refusal to play, Pakistan Champions will now progress to the finals because of their top place finish, with four wins and nine points. Sporting relations between both nations have once again deteriorated due to a terror attack at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir earlier in April this year, which was followed by an 'Operation Sindoor' by the Indian Armed Forces in retaliation for the attack. However, things, at least for now, look normal in international cricket, with both teams set to face each other in the Asia Cup in the UAE on September 14, while the Indian women's team will be playing their ICC Women's World Cup clash against the arch-rivals on October 6 in Colombo.
