PGA Championship Round 3 leaderboard, live updates: Can anyone catch Jhonattan Vegas?
It's moving day in North Carolina, and all eyes are on Jhonattan Vegas.
Yes, seriously.
Vegas jumped up to a two-shot lead over the field at the midway point of the PGA Championship in a rare showing for the 40-year-old veteran, who has never led a major championship until this week. He even pulled off a ridiculous shot off a rake on Friday, too, to keep himself in the lead.
While largely unknown, there is a big group of golfers close behind him. Si Woo Kim, who hit the longest ace in recorded major championship history, Matthieu Pavon and Matt Fitzpatrick are at 6-under. Scottie Scheffler, the top-ranked golfer in the world, is within striking distance, too. He's at 5-under with Max Homa. Rory McIlroy, fresh off his Masters win, and Xander Schauffele barely made it into the weekend. They survived the cut on the number at 1-over, and have a lot of work to do to get back in it.
As of now, this is still very much anybody's PGA Championship to win.
A weather delay has pushed the start of Round 3 to 11:43 a.m. ET. Groupings will now be in threesomes, instead of twosomes, and play will begin with split tees — front nine and back nine. The top half of the field will tee off on the front nine, while the back half will tee off on the back nine. This is all being done in an effort to get as much play in today.
Full tee times can be found here.

Third Round
When: Saturday, May 17
Where: Quail Hollow Club | Charlotte, North Carolina
TV: ESPN10 a.m. — 1 p.m. ET | ESPN, ESPN+1 p.m. — 7 p.m. ET | CBS, Paramount+
1:38 ET: Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, Chris Kirk1:44: Scottie Scheffler, Max Homa, Si Woo Kim1:55: Jhonattan Vegas, Matthieu Pavon, Matt Fitzpatrick
After a 3+-hour weather delay, Round 3 is finally underway.
Reminder: Twosomes have become threesomes (except one, more on that shortly), and they have split the tees — meaning players will tee off from both No. 1 and No. 10.
As for the groupings, every group will be a threesome, save one — the penultimate group of Max Greyserman and Sam Burns. How will that play in their heads? Well, I wouldn't want to be the only twosome on a course full of threesomes. Will be interesting to see how that plays out.
Rory McIlroy had to switch out his driver ahead of the PGA Championship.
McIlroy's regular driver was tested and deemed to be nonconforming after he arrived at Quail Hollow earlier this week ahead of the second major championship of the year. Further specifics on McIlroy's driver or why it was deemed nonconforming are not yet known.
The issue, though, is a common one on the PGA Tour. Clubs fail these tests, which are conducted regularly by the USGA at Tour events, each week throughout the season for a number of reasons. Drivers often fail simply due to extended use, as club faces can shift or break over time.
McIlroy just barely made the cut this week in North Carolina. He opened with a 3-over 74 on Thursday, and then he nearly blew it with back-to-back bogeys to end his round on Friday. McIlroy finished at 1-over, though, and made the cut on the number. McIlroy has struggled off the tee, and holds a driving accuracy of less than 36%. Only one golfer, Andre Chi, has been worse off the tee.

Jhonattan Vegas has won foru times on the PGA Tour, most recently last summer at the 3M Open. But a combination of injuries, bad breaks and hard luck have kept him from more sustained success in majors … which makes this week that much more meaningful.
'I have the game to compete in these big events. I feel like my game is very complete, but I just haven't been able to put it all together in a major,' he said. 'I've played good at some good, big tournaments, but never a major, right? … Unfortunately, it's [taken] me a little bit longer than usual, but I'm glad that I'm in this position right now.'

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Look, we got a little spoiled. Let's admit it. Major after major of elite-level champions claiming the game's best titles, year after year. We began to expect it, that every single major would be the equivalent of the Super Bowl or the World Series, putting the very best at center stage.
Well, golf doesn't always work that way. Sometimes the very best put their shots in the water, and sometimes the journeymen pick the best week of the year to have the best week of their lives. That's the beauty of the game — you can work for a lifetime, and if you can string just four outstanding days together, you become immortal. Pretty fantastic opportunity, when you think about it that way.
Now? Now what we've got, folks, is a damn mess. A glorious mess, but a mess all the same.

The best streaming deals for the week: Find out how to save on YouTube TV, ESPN+ and more
With so many streaming services out there, it can be overwhelming from both a content perspective (so many original shows to binge! And why do the biggest ones always seem to drop at once?) and a budgetary one (so many monthly fees!). If you're trying to find ways to make your monthly bills a little less painful though, you've got a few options. There are all kinds of streaming bundles available right now, so whether you're interested in the best deals on live sports, the best way to watch all your favorite shows, or some combination of both, we can help. (And help save you money in the process.) This week, there are tons of great deals to choose from. From discounts on YouTube TV to sports subscriptions like ESPN+, DAZN, there's something for everyone, and it's all on sale. Oh, and if you think there are no discounts for Netflix, we've got the scoop on how to subscribe to them for less, too. We've narrowed down a list of the best streaming bundles and deals in one place so you can decide which one works best for your viewing habits. Among the best streaming deals this week, you can subscribe to Starz for just $3 per month, get a deal on YouTube TV, or snag a great discount on DIRECTV. If you're a student (and aren't already on a family streaming plan), a few services offer great limited-time discounts, including Max, which offers 50% off their ad-supported plan (so you'll pay $4.99, though the offer is only good for one 12-month period), and Peacock, which costs students $2.99/month. (And note that you can often find a similar deal on Peacock around Black Friday even if you're not a student.) But the best streaming offer for students might just be Hulu's: They offer students a rate of just $1.99/month for as long as you offer proof of enrollment. Some of the best discounts around aren't through special sales, they're through your cell phone provider. T-Mobile offers discounts or free subscriptions to Apple TV+, Hulu, and Netflix (Standard with Ads), Verizon offers discounted $10 subscriptions to the Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+ bundle, a Netflix/Max bundle, and YouTube Premium, and select Cricket Wireless plans get Max (with Ads) for free. If you have or want to switch to Xfinity for your internet or cable provider, you can add a $15 streaming bundle into the mix, the Xfinity Streamsaver bundle, which includes three streamers putting out some of the best original content around: Apple TV+, Netflix (Standard with ads) and Peacock. Xfinity internet plans start at $30/month, bringing your total for the Streamsaver bundle to $45/month (that's $10 of savings vs. subscribing to all those services individually). If you're a Spectrum customer, there's a similar cable and streaming bundle available as well and it won't even cost you anything: If you subscribe to Spectrum and opt for a TV Select cable plan or higher, you'll receive free ad-supported subscriptions to Disney+, ViX, Paramount+, as well as Max, which was just recently added to their offerings.

REPORT: Knicks ask Mavs for permission to interview Jason Kidd
The New York Knicks have formally requested permission to speak with Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd as they begin the process of replacing Tom Thibodeau, according to multiple reports. Marc Stein first broke the news on his Substack newsletter. Stein reported that the Knicks are 'indeed preparing to ask Dallas for formal permission to speak to Kidd.' 'The New York Knicks are expected to formally request permission to speak to the Dallas Mavericks' Jason Kidd about their coaching vacancy in coming days, league sources say.' — Marc Stein Advertisement That report was followed by confirmation from ESPN's Tim MacMahon and Tim Bontemps. 'The Knicks have yet to request permission to speak to Kidd, who has two years remaining on the contract extension he signed during the Mavs' 2024 run to the NBA Finals. 'Dallas general manager Nico Harrison and governor Patrick Dumont have not yet discussed whether the franchise would be willing to grant permission for Kidd to speak to the Knicks.' — ESPN's Shams Charania and Tim Bontemps This development comes shortly after New York's playoff run ended in a Game 6 loss to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals and the subsequent firing of Tom Thibodeau. Despite the team reaching its first conference final in over two decades under Thibodeau and making the playoffs three consecutive years, the Knicks opted to part ways with him after five seasons. Kidd has emerged as the frontrunner for the Knicks' opening, at least publicly following this leak, and it's believed that his shared past with Jalen Brunson might have something to do with it. Advertisement A Hall of Fame point guard, Kidd finished his playing career in New York during the 2012–13 season, starting 48 games for the last Knicks team to win 50 games before Thibodeau's tenure. Kidd immediately transitioned into coaching following his retirement, taking over the Brooklyn Nets the following season. Since then, he has coached the Milwaukee Bucks and Dallas Mavericks. The now-veteran head coach owns a 362–339 career regular-season record and is 31–33 in the playoffs. He led the Mavericks to the Western Conference Finals in 2022 and the NBA Finals in 2024 before signing a two-year contract extension last summer that kicks in for the 2024–25 season. Despite still being under contract, Dallas is reportedly open, albeit still considering if they'd do so, to allowing Kidd to explore other opportunities, including talking to the Knicks brass and potentially joining the NYC-based franchise. Kidd's connection to Brunson, who played for him in Dallas during the 2021-22 season, could be one of the reasons behind the Knicks' interest in hiring the point guard to man the MSG sideline. Advertisement In an interview a few years ago, Brunson recalled their first meeting after Kidd took over in Dallas. 'The first thing he told me when he became head coach, he says, 'What do you want to achieve?' And I told him I wanted to just contribute as best I can, yada yada yada,' Brunson said. 'He said, 'No, we gotta get you paid.'' During that season, Brunson posted then-career highs in points (16.3), assists (4.8), and rebounds (3.9) per game, setting the stage for his free-agent move to New York. Kidd is also widely credited with helping develop Giannis Antetokounmpo during his early years with the Milwaukee Bucks, earning the trust of the future two-time MVP and bringing another appealing connection to the table with Giannis now seeming disgruntled and looking for a way out of Milwaukee. Advertisement Kidd's track record in developing talent and building relationships with players is reportedly of interest to the Knicks front office because of the possibilities it might bring in the short-term future with a solid core already in tow and in the middle of a contending window. For what it's worth, New York already got in touch with Kidd previously, interviewing the coach during the Knicks' 2020 coaching search, ultimately finishing as a finalist before withdrawing to remain with the Lakers in an assistant coach position under honcho Frank Vogel. Thibodeau was hired instead, and now, five years later, New York appears ready to hire Kidd once and for all, assuming all parties can find agreements and common ground. For that to happen, the Mavericks would first need to allow Kidd to talk to the Knicks. If the coach convinces New York he's the right man for the position, then Dallas would either need to A) release him or 2) agree with New York on a trade for the coach to swap franchises. Advertisement Previous head coach trades have been built around draft compensation, such as when the Clippers acquired Doc Rivers from the Celtics for an unprotected first-round pick, or when Milwaukee sent second-rounders to Brooklyn to hire the very own Kidd in 2014. While the Knicks are limited in tradable first-round picks after last year's deal for Mikal Bridges, they still control Washington's top-eight-protected 2026 pick (likely to convert to two seconds), eight additional second-rounders, and multiple future first-round swap rights.
