Nasi Berlauk Juedin Offers ‘Rahmah' Price To Help The Less Fortunate

Barnama06-07-2025
KUALA NERUS, July 6 (Bernama) -- Although the prices of essentials have gone up, a husband-and-wife team running a food stall continues to serve a variety of dishes at affordable 'rahmah' prices.
Driven by a desire to ease the burden of the less fortunate, Sabarudin Ramli, 42, and his wife, Ajuma' Arasikim Din, 41, are determined to sell 'nasi campur' (mixed rice) with various dishes at just RM5 per serving at their eatery, Nasi Berlauk Juedin.
Sabarudin said that although their profit margin is small, he is content knowing that he is able to help his customers, especially those with large families.
'I started this business in 2014 with a budget rice menu priced at RM2.50 from a small stall in Kuala Nerus before we moved to our current location six years ago.
'The 'rahmah' concept was introduced just three weeks ago. Previously, our prices were like any regular eatery. But after many customers shared their struggles with the rising cost of living, my wife and I decided to make a change,' he said when met at his eatery in Kampung Tok Jiring here today.
Every day, the couple rises at 4 am to prepare more than 30 dishes, assisted by four employees.
Among the most popular menu items are ikan patin masak tempoyak, ayam berempah, udang masak lemak cili api, ikan tiga rasa and kerabu pegaga.
For the past three weeks, their eatery has been frequented by customers from Kuala Terengganu, Kuala Nerus and Marang.
'Ever since my eatery went viral on TikTok, we've been getting a non-stop stream of customers. They arrive as early as 10 am to dine in, and many also pack various dishes to take home.

Thailand-Cambodia Tensions Could Trigger Global Tuna, Pet Food Shortages

BUSINESS MOSCOW, July 25 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- The escalating tensions between Thailand and Cambodia could cause a serious shortage of canned tuna due to Thailand's dominant position in this market, according to RIA Novosti's analysis of Thai Tuna Industry Association data. In 2023, global exports of canned tuna totalled 1.6 million tonnes, with Thailand accounting for a dominant 28 per cent of that volume. Ecuador, the second-largest exporter, held just a 14 per cent share, followed by China at 9 per cent. Thailand's canned tuna exports surged by 30 per cent in 2024, reaching 580,000 tonnes, up from 445,000 tonnes a year earlier. The United States is the largest consumer of Thai canned tuna, accounting for 21 per cent of purchases, followed by Japan, Australia, and Libya (7 per cent each), and Saudi Arabia (6 per cent). According to the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation, Thailand also controls around 8 per cent of the global tuna trade (both fresh and processed), trailing Ecuador (12 per cent), China (11 per cent), and Indonesia (8.5 per cent). According to RIA Novosti's analysis of UN Comtrade data, a disruption in trade due to the Thai-Cambodian conflict could also impact the global pet food market, as Thailand was the world's second-largest exporter of pet food in 2024, with US$2.7 billion worth of shipments or just over 10 per cent of the global total. Only Germany exported more, with exports totaling US$3.3 billion. The United States was the top buyer of Thai pet food, accounting for nearly one-third of Thailand's exports. Other major importers included Japan (12 per cent), Australia and Italy (6 per cent each), Malaysia (5 per cent), and the Philippines and Germany (4 per cent each). Thailand's presence in the Russian pet food market remains minimal, with imports totaling just US$4.9 million last year. In March 2024, Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision banned six Thai enterprises from the Russian market. The long-standing dispute between Thailand and Cambodia over the 11th-century Preah Vihear Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site, escalated Thursday. Following weeks of heightened tensions from landmine incidents and subsequent mutual diplomatic expulsions, heavy artillery and rocket attacks erupted near border temples. Al Jazeera reported, citing the Thai Health Ministry, that bombing and shelling had killed at least 11 civilians and a soldier in Thailand. The authorities of four Thai provinces bordering Cambodia have announced the evacuation of residents amid the escalation, The Nation newspaper reported. --BERNAMA-SPUTNIK/RIA NOVOSTI

Chemical Industries (Malaya) Leads Green Innovation with New Corn-based Ethanol Plant in Perak

IPOH, Perak, July 25 (Bernama) -- Chemical Industries (Malaya) Sdn. Bhd. (CIM), a subsidiary of public-listed Hexza Corporation Berhad, today inaugurated its state- of-the-art corn-based ethanol production facility in Persiaran Tasek, Ipoh, marking a significant milestone in the company's growth and innovation journey. The new plant exemplifies CIM's unwavering commitment to quality, sustainability, and the advancement of its operations through modern, circular production methods. In a strategic shift from molasses to corn as its primary feedstock, CIM now produces ethanol through natural fermentation and distillation using high-quality corn. A key byproduct of this process - Distiller's Dried Grains with Solubles (DDGS) – is repurposed into high-value livestock feed, reinforcing CIM's adoption of circular economy principles. This makes CIM the first manufacturer and supplier of locally produced DDGS in Malaysia, supporting both food security and sustainable agriculture.
