Ten years on from the Anzac Day hailstorm

Time creeps up on you, doesn't it? Hard to believe this game was a full decade ago now. It's the only time I've ever seen an NRL game get temporarily suspended due to the whether. Good win from Saints as well.

Hello everyone and welcome to one of the biggest days of the NRL season.
Anzac Day is a reminder there's far more important things than football but there's three games being played today with plenty of commemoration for those who shall not grow old.
First up we have the Roosters-Dragons game at the SFS, then it's over to Christchurch for Warriors-Knights then we're off to Melbourne for Storm-Rabbitohs.
It'll be a big day, so let's settle in. I'm Nick Campton, this is the NRL blog for Anzac Day, let's have a good time out there.

Radley is ready for the Ashes. But a late-season Roosters surge comes first

He now looks likely to be joined by Smith, who, like Radley, was born and bred in Sydney but has English parentage and has declared himself available to represent the Lions. 'It's awesome,' Radley said of Smith's decision. 'I know about his parents being English, so I didn't want to bring it up with him too much ... I didn't really want to bombard him with it. When he told me, I was stoked. 'I thought, 'yeah, world-class centre'. He's been one of the best centres all year, so I'm stoked.' Smith confirmed he had spoken to Wane about representing England but, like Radley, insisted his priority was to help the Roosters finish 2025 strongly. 'The belief is there,' he said. 'But in saying that, we haven't really achieved anything at the minute. 'We've still got three tough games to go, starting this week with Parramatta, and that's where our focus will be at. 'But there is a strong feeling in the group. We're really confident in the style of footy we want to play, so now it's about going and doing it.' The 25-year-old centre said playing in an Ashes series would be the highlight of a career that is finally starting to bloom after being interrupted by three knee reconstructions. 'I think it's the pinnacle of rugby league to be completely honest with you,' he said. 'It'd be awesome to get selected.' Radley has appeared in nine Tests for England, winning eight of them, but is yet to line up against the Kangaroos. He said he always sings God Save the King 'loud and proud' and would not feel conflicted when the Australian anthem is played. 'I love this country,' he said. 'I grew up here. Australia's my home. I'm not going to pretend that I'm completely English. Loading 'Australia's my home. I grew up at Bronte Beach, so I love this country. I love Australia. 'That [English] anthem means something to me as well, and my family … when I'm playing for England, I'll be singing God Save the King and be proud there. But Australia's my home. I love this country, and that's never, ever going to change.' He said he would relish the challenge of helping England try to win a series against Australia for the first time since 1970. 'I know how important this Ashes series will be for England,' he said. 'So if I get lucky enough to get chosen in the squad, I'm not going to leave any stone unturned. 'It's probably the biggest challenge so far in my international career. So I look forward to it. I'm really disappointed in that [2022] World Cup year when we didn't get the chance to play in the final, when Samoa beat us in extra time.'

Round 25 team lists: Isaah Yeo and Ryan Papenhuyzen named as heavyweight clubs leave fans guessing

Friday's epic NRL double-header could see a host of stars return, with the four-time defending premiers hoping to welcome back co-captain Isaah Yeo after the Penrith co-captain was named on an extended bench. The Panthers star has missed two games with a shoulder injury but could be a late inclusion for the blockbuster showdown with ladder-leaders Canberra after he was named in jersey No.19. He would be a big inclusion for the Panthers who are fighting for a top-four spot, while the Raiders are 1-17 and feeling fresh after last week's bye. The second match of the double-header is a little more intriguing with several stars named on the extended bench for both teams. Cameron Munster has again been named at fullback but Ryan Papenhuyzen is lurking in the reserves and will slot straight in if he's cleared all of his concussion protocols. Nelson Asofa-Solomona could also return to the NRL squad, while Storm coach Craig Bellamy has one forced change with Joe Chan replacing Shawn Blore (ankle) in the back row. The Bulldogs could also pull a couple of late switches with Marcelo Montoya and Sitili Tupouniua listed in the reserves as they look to make their return from lengthy injury lay-offs. There's mixed news for the Rabbitohs who will again be without Latrell Mitchell, but they do get Keaon Koloamatangi back in the front row after initial fears that a foot injury would end his season. Cody Walker will again come off the bench against a Dragons side that will be without Jack de Belin, Hamish Stewart and Hame Sele after the trio all entered concussion protocols. The Roosters will be without high-flying winger Daniel Tupou (concussion protocols) for the game against the Eels, with Junior Tupou replacing him on the left wing, while Siua Wong returns in the back row. There's a triple boost for the Warriors who welcome back Te Maire Martin, Rocco Berry and Kurt Capewell for their clash with the Titans who get Brian Kelly and Jojo Fifita back in the centres. And the Dolphins get veteran props Felise Kaufusi and Francis Molo for their must-win game against Manly, while Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow returns to fullback with Trai Fuller dropping back to the bench.
