Varun Chakravathy remains No. 3 T20I bowler; England's Rashid rises to second

Dubai: England's white-ball contingent was awarded after a string of standout performances against the West Indies propelled several players up the ICC Men's T20I Rankings, with veteran leg-spinner Adil Rashid leading the charge.
Rashid, 37, was a model of consistency in England's 3-0 T20I series sweep, returning figures of 1/22 at Chester-Le-Street, 1-59 in a high-scoring clash at Bristol, and a match-turning 2/30 in the final game at Southampton.
His efforts were enough to leapfrog both Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga and India's Varun Chakaravarthy, moving him into second place in the T20I Bowling Rankings with a rating of 710, just 13 points behind New Zealand's Jacob Duffy, the current No. 1.
The leggie's rise encapsulates a dominant run for England, who extended their momentum from the earlier ODI series win over the same opponents. Brydon Carse, another of England's pace options, also saw a reward for his tidy contributions. His two wickets across the final two T20Is pushed him up 16 spots to 52nd in the rankings.
The series was rich in runs, and the batter rankings reflected that. Ben Duckett made a stunning impact with a blazing 84 off 46 balls in the third T20I — a knock that catapulted him 48 places to a career-best 16th. Harry Brook's pair of quickfire cameos, 35* and 34, earned him a six-place bump to joint-38th.
West Indies had their moments, too. Captain Shai Hope's pair of 40-plus scores helped him climb 14 places to 15th in the batting list, while Rovman Powell's explosive 79 not out from 45 balls in the final game earned him a place in the top 20. All-rounder Jason Holder also enjoyed a productive series with both bat and ball, moving up 16 places to 26th in the All-Rounder Rankings thanks to 70 runs and a crucial wicket.

Chennai Grandmasters Day 4: Erigaisi Passes Up Chance To Capitalise On Keymer Draw

Last Updated: Nihal Sarin stunned Arjun Erigaisi to pick up his first win of the day as Vincent Keymer held on to his lead despite being held to a draw by Anish Giri. Arjun Erigaisi failed to take advantage of Vincen Keymer's draw against Anish Giri as the Indian went down to compatriot Nihal Sarin, who picked up his first win of the Chess Grandmasters 2025 on Day 4 of the event on Sunday. Erigaisi, who began the day half a point behind the German leader, had the chance to go on level with Keymer in the Masters category; however, Sarin rained on Erigaisi's party as the youngster pulled off the biggest surprise of the event yet as he handed Erigaisi his first defeat of the series. As a result, Keymer still stands alone on top of the roster with three and a half points to his name after the conclusion of four games in the nine-match round robin event, while Arjun stands at two and a half. Robson took his tally to two points, as did Giri, Awonder and Gujrathi. Karthikeyan's win took him on level with points while Pranav took his tally to a point and a half, mimicking Sarin's count. The all-American clash between Liang Awoder and Ray Robson finished up with the overseas players splitting the points two ways, as did the all-Indian pairing of Pranav V and Vidit Gujrathi. Karthikeyan Murali also registered a win over Dutchman Jorden Van Foreest to take his tally to two points in twice as many fixtures. Abhimanyu Purnik's winning run in the Challengers section continued as he got the beating of Vaishali, as Harika Dronavalli's disappointing run continued as she slumped to her third defeat in four games, as Leon Luke Mendoca outwitted the seasoned campaigner. Iniyan Pa beat Aryan Chopra, while Diptayan Ghosh pulled out all the stops to edge out Harshavardhan GB. The only challenger game that ended in a draw was the fixture between Adhiban B and Pranesh M, as the duo shared the spoils. Rashid Khan on rare games at home: ‘Love and joy of people back home keeps me going'

Last month, Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan enjoyed 12 rare days of cricket in Kabul. The leg-spinner was part of the 12-day Shpageeza Cricket League held at the Alokozay stadium in late July. So rare has he played at home that only 22 of his 483 T20 appearances have arrived on home soil. He has donned the Afghanistan stripes in 216 games across formats, but not once on home soil. Hence, he cherished the rare home games. 'We hardly play any games at home so to go there and see the happiness on their faces is great. It's massive for the young generation to see their players on the ground. They always watch on TV,' he told The Times. The stands were packed, overwhelming Rashid. 'They were big, they're always big, they love watching us play. The capacity [of the stadium] was not that big, but outside there were double or triple the number of people waiting. I was there for a week and there wasn't a day when there weren't people everywhere you go. They want pictures, they want selfies. The love you get is unbelievable,' he said. His countrymen's love for him keeps him going, he said. 'When you see the people back home in Afghanistan and the love they have for this game, that just keeps me going. I have to give them that happiness when we win. When I played the other day [at Lord's], they all celebrated. They were cheering for me. It's the only source of happiness., That's something which keeps me going, keeps me motivated, keeps me full of energy. I want to deliver something special for my team and the people,' he said. He also expressed his desire to play a Test at Lord's. 'To play Test cricket against England at Lord's is more than a dream. It would be the same feeling as winning a World Cup. Everyone wants to play Test cricket there.' However, doctors have advised him to abstain from Test cricket, as his shoulders could creak. He once admitted that he felt the effects of bowling more than 50 overs when taking 11 wickets to help defeat Zimbabwe in January. 'It's a big decision for me, how much Test cricket I should play. It's not that I don't like the format, it's my body condition. When I was younger I had no issues. Now I have to be selective,' he said, stressing that he would reduce the volume of franchise cricket and not compromise his national duties to manage workload. He was all praise for coach Jonathan Trott, under whose guidance Afghanistan reached the last four of the T20 World Cup last year. 'He has done so much for the cricket of Afghanistan. He has brought the team together regardless of many issues. He kept everyone cool and together and a lot of credit goes to him for his hard work and dedication. We were talented but we needed someone like him to guide us in the right way,' he said.
