Google brings new AI features to Chromebook Plus devices

announced a comprehensive AI upgrade for its Chromebook Plus portfolio today, introducing five new artificial intelligence-powered features directly integrated into ChromeOS. One of the new features is Circle to Search; since it's coming to Chromebook, Google has dubbed it Select to Search. Other features are Text Capture, Quick Insert, and Simplify. Select to Search is Circle to Search for Chromebooks
The new Select to search feature allows users to quickly identify and get information about anything on their screen by long-pressing the launcher button or using the screenshot tool. Similar to Android's Circle to Search function, users can select objects like clothing or products to find shopping options without leaving their current application.
Text Capture transforms images into editable text with calendar integration
Text capture pulls information directly from images, including receipts and recipes, transforming it into editable text to eliminate manual retyping. The feature can automatically populate Google Calendar events from highlighted invitations and convert handwritten recipes into digital shopping lists in Google Docs.
One-button access to AI image creation and media insertion
The enhanced Quick Insert key now enables users to generate AI images or insert photos and emojis directly into documents and presentations without interrupting workflow. This builds on last year's Quick Insert functionality by adding Gemini's generative AI capabilities with a single keystroke.

RU releases first cut-off list
Jaipur: Constituent colleges of Rajasthan University (RU) Monday released the first merit list for admissions into different undergraduate courses this year. The university, in a statement, said the first list has been published, and after physical verification of documents from June 24 to June 26, students will be able to deposit the fees online at from the afternoon of the same day. Prof Ramavatar Sharma, convenor of the Central Admission Committee at RU, said that all students should create their ABC-ID (academic bank of credits ID) before submitting the fee. "Students can deposit the fee from June 24 to June 26, and if the fee is not deposited, the admission will be automatically considered cancelled. To view the list, students can go to and click on 'Merit list or 'Merit by College'," said the university. . In Maharani College, the cut-off for the three/four-year BA Arts (Pol. Science) was the highest at 98.6% for the general category. For other courses like BA Arts (History), the cut-off was 96%, and for the three/four-year BA Arts (English Literature), the cut-off this year for the general category is 95.6%. Under National Education Policy, if a student studies for three years, they get a BA degree, and an Honours degree is given if they continue studies for the fourth year.

Your aluminium cookware has expiry date: Experts
Bengaluru: Aluminium cookware is a staple in Indian kitchens, but if you've been using the same pot for years, it may be time for a rethink. At an orientation programme organised by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) here Monday, regulators and manufacturers stressed that aluminium utensils come with a limited life span and should be replaced every 12 to 24 months, depending on usage and material quality. While anodising and using heavier material can extend the cookware's life, BIS is now pushing for greater transparency. The updated standards mandate the labelling of aluminium grades on all products. Revised BIS norms require that toxic metal content — such as lead, cadmium, mercury, and hexavalent chromium — be kept below 0.05% in material for cookware. These specifications will apply to small enterprises from July 2025 and to micro enterprises from Oct 2025. Monday's session, aimed at briefing manufacturers on the revised 2024 BIS norms for cookware, triggered a wider conversation on consumer expectations and health risks from overused or degraded utensils. "Aluminium is a soft metal. If used at high temperatures over prolonged periods, even heavy-grade utensils can degrade in five-ten days. "Customers today want lifetime use from aluminium cookware, but the realistic benchmark is 12 to 20 months. Those who want durability often move to tri-ply cookware, but that isn't affordable for the mass market yet," Rohit Chawla, co-founder, Kaviraj Kinox Kitchen, said. Some cookware manufacturers admitted that coatings begin to peel off after the first year — posing potential health hazards. "As you know, anything in excess is harmful. Beyond the warranty period, coatings start to wear off. That's when consumers should replace such utensils to avoid health hazards," one manufacturer said. "Pure aluminium is 'grade 19000', with 99% aluminium content. Other grades like '63540' or '60342' are alloys, which are harder, but mixed with other elements," Beesu explained. BIS clarified that warranties and guarantees are business decisions and not part of regulatory standards. "People often confuse warranty with compliance. That's a commercial strategy, not part of our standards," Beesu observed.

Vijayawada: The last one year of governance is a testament to what a "double engine sarkar" can do, said chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the 'First Step to Good Governance' (Suparipalana ki Toli Adugu) event in Amaravati on Monday. Naidu said the state progressed remarkably under NDA rule from the devastation done by the previous YSRCP govt in the last one year. Stating that development is only possible with good governance, he urged officials and public representatives to work in tandem with the aim to achieve 15% growth rate on a consistent basis. He called for setting big goals and doing smart work to achieve them. He explained how a consistent growth rate can multiply wealth, while stressing on the need to adopt technology in every walk of life for better results. He said though the chief minister's position is not new to him, the state was in a critical situation every time he became CM. "In 1995, when I became chief minister for the first time, the financial condition was so dire that the state could not even pay salaries. In 2014, because of the state's bifurcation, we started from a situation where there was no chair for the chief minister to sit in the absence of a capital. Stay away from arrogance: Lokesh Explaining the reforms introduced in the education sector and the results achieved in the last year, IT and HRD minister Nara Lokesh said the state govt aims to make 'Andhra model of education' the best in the country. He thanked teachers and govt employees for leading the reforms, and urged MLAs and public representatives to stay close to people and understand their problems. "The previous rulers were reduced from 151 to 11 seats because of their arrogance. We should not have that kind of arrogance; instead, we should go to people and get their issues resolved with a humane approach," said Lokesh.
