Crystal Palace boss expects Eze and Guehi to start on Thursday night

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner confirmed that Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi will start Thursday night's Conference League play-off first leg against Fredrikstad. Despite persistent transfer speculation linking Eze to Tottenham and Guehi to Liverpool, Glasner stated both players are committed and expected to give 100 per cent while under contract. Glasner expressed surprise at the media's focus on their potential departures, highlighting their strong performance in the recent draw against Chelsea. Guehi's contract with Palace runs until next summer, while Eze's deal extends to 2027, with his reported £68million release clause having expired last Friday. Goalkeeper Dean Henderson echoed his manager's sentiments, praising Eze and Guehi's professionalism and dedication to the team.

Isak drama In case you missed it, Alexander Isak FINALLY broke his silence on his refusal to play for Newcastle. And the Swedish striker claimed the club have broken promises made to him about a potential move away from St James' Park. He said: ""I've kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. "That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn't reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors. "The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading. "When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can't continue. "That's where things are for me right now – and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself."

Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey joins Roma on loan with option to buy as out-of-favour Jamaica star looks to revive form in Serie A

Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey has joined Roma on loan for the 2025-26 season, with the Jamaica international looking to revive his form in Serie A. The deal reportedly includes a £19million option to make the move permanent. Roma, managed by Gian Piero Gasperini, finished fifth in Serie A last season and have already added Brighton striker Evan Ferguson to their squad this summer. Bailey, 28, joined Villa from Bayer Leverkusen in a £25m deal in 2021 and has since made 144 appearances, scoring 22 goals. He was a regular starter under Unai Emery in his first two seasons, but injuries and form limited his minutes in the latter stages of last year. Bailey enjoyed his best season in 2023-24, hitting a career-high 14 goals and 13 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions. Last term, as Villa reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League, he scored and assisted in the last-16 win over Club Brugge before Emery's side were knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain. But it proved to be a rare highlight in an otherwise disappointing campaign that saw him register only two goals in 38 games and slip down the pecking order as Villa reinforced their attack. The winger signed a new contract in February 2024 running until 2027, but the option-to-buy clause in his Roma loan means this season could prove decisive in shaping his long-term future. Bailey's switch also continues a busy summer of outgoings at Villa Park, with midfielder Leander Dendoncker joining Real Oviedo and reports linking other squad players with exits before the deadline. Roma will hope Bailey can rediscover the spark that made him such a threat in the Bundesliga.
