HONOLULU (KHON2) — Ever wanted to be a part of a parade?
Aloha Festivals 2025 to honor Hawaiian culinary traditions
Aloha Festivals has announced that they are looking for applicants to be a part of the 77th Annual Floral Parade, which will be held on Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The floral parade will march from the 'Ewa entrance of Ala Moana Regional Park, through Kalākaua Avenue, and end at Queen Kapi'olani Regional Park.
The parade will feature participants that reflect the rich diversity of Hawai'i's communities – from floats, high school marching bands, and pāʻū equestrian units to community organizations, local leaders, and more.
'Community participation is essential for the success of the floral parade. Whether you are a small business, nonprofit, school group, or other organization, this beloved tradition is for everyone,' said Makana McClellan, Aloha Festivals parade chair. 'The parade also presents a unique opportunity to share your mission, engage directly with thousands of spectators, and become a memorable part of Hawai'i's largest and longest-running cultural festival.'
The 2025 theme, 'Ko Kula Uka, Ko Kula Kai – Those of the Upland, Those of the Shore: Mauka to Makai,' emphasizes the tradition of exchanging food and resources from the mountains to the sea.Applications are now being accepted for many parade participants, including marching bands, floats, trolleys, and walking units.

No words can describe the variety of yells, whoops, and whistles performed by the crowd. Charlie Raymond, founder of the Kentucky Bigfoot Research Organization, leads local hunts for the creature. He was the perfect person to judge the contest, because he believes he's heard the real thing. 'You could tell some of them have done their homework,' he said. The crowd in the audience roared in approval. 'I can do long laughs and stuff and make a bunch of weird noises, so I just kind of knew what I would do,' Tennison said. Bigfoot didn't answer the call at this festival, but the creature sure has a fan club in these parts. You have to believe that if he ever comes out of hiding, he'd want to make tracks here. GLOW hot-air balloon event aids Children's Smile Center in Ozark
OZARK, Mo. — The 19th annual GLOW air balloon event is happening in Ozark to support the Children's Smile Center on Friday, June 20. According to a Children's Smile Center press release, the air balloon event is being presented by Ozark Chevrolet and starts at 8:45 p.m. on June 20 at Finley River Park in Ozark. The event will include multiple hot air balloons and a 60 to 90 minute light show, the release says. Visitors will be able to see the balloons up close, speak with the pilots and get inside the basket. 'The GLOW is a fun event for all ages,' Jackie Barger, executive director, said in the release. 'Rarely do people have the opportunity to see the balloons close up, but here you can visit with the pilots and then watch an amazing light show. We want everyone to know that the event is extremely sensitive to weather and wind conditions. The unpredictability of Ozarks weather means there is always a chance the event could not be held. Please keep informed through our Facebook page.' The event is part of the Sertoma Duck Race Festival, which will be from June 20 to June 21. The festival will include live music, food booths, business vendors and a kids' zone with carnival activities. The GLOW event's funding goes to the Children's Smile Center to provide dental care for children from ages 1 to 19 covered by Missouri Medicaid who live in Christian, Stone, Taney, Dade, Barry or Lawrence Counties. The dental clinics reside in Ozark, Branson West and Aurora. 'We are grateful to local corporate sponsors for underwriting this event and providing funds to help provide our dental clinics to people from low-income families served by Medicaid,' Barger said. Trump dismisses protests, touts Kennedy Center's future at ‘Les Mis' opening
President Trump on Wednesday attended the opening night performance of 'Les Misérables,' one of the first shows to hit the stage at the Kennedy Center since Trump drastically overhauled the performing arts center's operations. Trump and first lady Melania Trump attended the show and a fundraiser in support of the center. A smattering of protesters greeted Trump outside the Kennedy Center, and a handful of performers skipped Wednesday's performance in protest of Trump's attendance. 'I couldn't care less,' Trump said of the boycotts. 'All I do is run the country well.' The president said Wednesday's fundraiser brought in $10 million for the Kennedy Center. The performance at the Kennedy Center's nearly 2,400-seat Opera House was completely sold out, according to officials. Some 'specialty seating' tickets, which included a meet-and-greet with the president, were being sold for as much as $2 million. 'We want to bring it back better than ever. As you know it needs a little help from the standpoint of age and fitness, but it's going to be fantastic,' Trump said. 'Les Misérables' is one of the most major productions to hit the Kennedy Center's stages since Trump overhauled the performing arts institution's board in February and named himself its chair. The president, who had accused the Kennedy Center of being too 'woke,' appointed his envoy for special missions Richard Grenell as its interim executive director. The president went on to appoint a slew of political allies as board members, including chief of staff Susie Wiles, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Fox News hosts Laura Ingraham and Maria Bartiromo and senior White House official Sergio Gor. The Kennedy Center earlier this month denied reports that it allegedly saw a 36-percent decline in sales subscriptions following Trump's takeover of the arts hub. The president didn't step foot in the center during his first term in office, bucking tradition and declining to attend the annual Kennedy Center Honors event after several of the awards recipients criticized him.
