Two women die after BMW crashed into care home during police chase in Sunderland
The Highcliffe Care Home in Witherwack, Sunderland, had to be evacuated after the crash occurred at around 9.40pm on Wednesday evening, Northumbria Police said.
The two women died on Thursday and their next of kin have been informed, the force said.
Eight other residents were taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. All but one of them have since been discharged.
Before the deaths of the two women were known, the care home's management Avery Healthcare said residents have been moved to alternative accommodation.
The blue BMW involved in the collision had been reported stolen from the Fenham area of Newcastle at around 9.20pm on Wednesday.
It was then seen in the Sunderland area at around 9.35pm and police were authorised to pursue the vehicle. It crashed into the care home around five minutes later.
Two 21-year-old men were re-arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
They were previously arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, while one was also arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
They remain in police custody.

Following the pursuit, a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, Northumbria Police said.
Chief Superintendent Mark Hall said: "This is an extremely sad development and all of our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of everyone affected. We will continue to support them in any way that we can at this time.
"Our investigations remain at an early stage, and we would ask people to avoid speculation both online and in the community."

Two Durham police officers killed in the line of duty are being remembered during a charity cycle ride this weekend. The Annual Care of Police Survivors Unity Tour began today (July 31), as two of the force's members take part in honour of their fallen colleagues. Casualty reduction Coordinator, Pete Tate, and retired Inspector, Ed Turner, are cycling more than 250 miles over four days. After beginning their ride in Washington, the team briefly stopped at force headquarters, before setting off on their way to the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. A grim three days across London has seen four people stabbed and a person shot with one of the victims left fighting for their life. This only includes incidents that Newsquest London is aware of and has reported on. The incidents unfolded between July 29 and 31 in Mayfair, Kilburn, Southwark, Stratford and Newham. The incident happened on Stratford High Street just after 7.30pm on July 29. Officers attended the scene after the victim took himself to hospital. His injuries were assessed as non-life threatening. No arrests have been made as police enquiries continue. Man taken to hospital after West Ham Park stabbing A man was taken to hospital after a stabbing at West Ham Park. The incident happened at the park in Upton Lane just after 10.50am on July 29. Officers and London Ambulance Service crews attended and found a man injured. He was taken to hospital for treatment where his condition was assessed as non life threatening. No arrests have been made as police enquiries continue. Man rushed to hospital after stabbing near Claridge's Hotel in Mayfair
A man has been rushed to hospital after being stabbed in Mayfair near Claridge's Hotel this morning (Thursday, July 31). Police have reassured the public they are work at a "fast-pace" to catch the person responsible. The 47-year-old man was found with stab wounds on Brook's Mews, not far from Claridge's, at around 7.55am. No arrests have yet been made in connection with the incident. His injuries are believed to be neither life-threatening nor life-changing. A crime scene remains in place at the scene.
