Franco Colapinto crashes Alpine F1 car in Pirelli test
The Italian tyre supplier has been running regular tests, like this two-day session following the Hungarian Grand Prix, to prepare its 2026 F1 compounds. The new tyres are smaller and narrower as part of the world championship's new technical rules.
Three 2025-spec cars were on track yesterday in Mogyorod – provided by Alpine, McLaren and Racing Bulls – with Alpine still in action today alongside Ferrari. Track time is usually spread among teams that volunteer to perform the tests.
However, Colapinto crashed this morning at the Turn 11 right-hander, one of the faster curves at this circuit. The Argentinian was uninjured.
'During Day 2 of Pirelli Tyre Testing at the Hungaroring this morning, Franco Colapinto had an incident at Turn 11. Franco was assessed on site at the medical centre and is OK,' an Alpine spokesperson has stated.

This is particularly bad news for Colapinto, who is yet to finish a grand prix inside the top 12 this season, while team-mate Pierre Gasly – who is also due to drive the Alpine today – has collected 13 points in the same period, to add to his seven points from the first six rounds when Jack Doohan was his team-mate.
Colapinto has been outqualified by Gasly 7-2 so far, having crashed twice in qualifying. His struggles are compounded by his contractual status as he is understood to remain on race-by-race deals, meaning he can be dropped by Alpine at any time.

Shane van Gisbergen wrecks out of the lead after contact with teammate
The third matchup between teammates Connor Zilisch and Shane van Gisbergen ended in disaster. SVG was blocking aggressively as Zilisch tried to find a way around his JR Motorsports teammate. And with just 18 laps to go, the two drivers clashed. Zilisch moved to the outside of SVG on the run down into Turn 6, but he blew the corner and went extremely wide. As Zilisch tried to get back to the racing surface, there was no room as van Gisbergen was occupying the inside lane. However, Zilisch didn't lift, clipping his teammate, and sending SVG hard into the outside wall at Turn 7. SVG's car lifted off the ground due to the severity of the impact, but he was uninjured. On the radio, Zilisch gave his initial thoughts on the incident. "I don't know what I could have done differently," radioed Zilisch. "He didn't leave me any room to rejoin. "He spun off my nose ... I think he thought I was clear." Van Gisbergen didn't have much to say after being checked and released from the infield care center, telling The CW that he hadn't seen a replay yet. "Not ideal," said van Gisbergen. "Pretty gutted, really. Gutted for the JR Motorsports guys. Our car wasn't great, but we still managed to get ourselves in position and looked great. Pretty average way to end it." Zilisch went on to win the race, but he suffered a scary fall in Victory Lane. The 19-year-old fell off the car, left on a stretcher and was transported to local hospital. Motorway closed after car 'driving wrong way' crashes
The M65 was closed earlier this evening after a car, reportedly travelling the wrong way, crashed into two other vehicles near Blackburn. The major motorway was closed in both directions tonight (August 9) after a serious crash. The incident saw responses from Lancashire Police, Lancashire Fire and Rescue and North West Ambulance Service. It occurred shortly at 6.20pm between Junction 5 at Guide and Junction 6 at Blackburn-Whitbirk Roundabout. READ MORE: Major motorway closed with queuing traffic after serious crash A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We were called to the M65 at 6.20pm today (August 9) following reports of a collision between junction 5 and 6. "It was reported a car travelling contraflow to traffic had collided with two other vehicles. "There are no reports of any life-threatening injuries at this time, however emergency services remain on scene. "A full motorway closure has been put in place to allow medical professionals to carry out their work and for the vehicles to be recovered. "We would ask that people find alternative travel routes. "Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage are asked to call 101, quoting log 1051 of August 9, 2025." National Highways warned drivers to follow diversion routes and plan their journey ahead. The motorway was partially reopened at around 8.15pm, with one lane remaining closed eastbound and two remaining closed westbound. North West Ambulance Service and Lancashire Fire and Rescue were contacted for comment.
