Sundance Film Festival to leave longtime Utah home for Boulder, Colorado
'Boulder is an art town, tech town, mountain town, and college town. It is a place where the Festival can build and flourish,' Amanda Kelso, the institute's acting CEO, said in a news release. 'This is the beginning of a bold, new journey as we invite everyone to be part of our community and to be entertained and inspired. We can't imagine a better fit than Boulder.'

Queen City Mischief and Magic prepares for year 10
The Queen City Mischief and Magic festival is preparing for its 10th annual celebration. Founder Sarah Lynch approached the Staunton City Council to give an overview of the festival's work for the event this year, scheduled for Sept. 27 and 28. The citywide celebration has only grown over the past 10 years. 'We thought we were going to have a one-day Harry Potter birthday party in July,' said Lynch of the first year. '… We met with the city, estimated 500 to 1,500 people. We got 8,000 to 10,000. That year was probably the clunkiest because who would have ever thought that would happen?' The numbers have only grown since then – the festival was previously estimated to draw in nearly 40,000 visitors to downtown Staunton. 'We have changed very much from the beginning, a one-day event, to the fall weekend,' said Lynch. 'Thanks to the city's involvement, we have expanded and headed off many problems. Every year we think we've got it figured out, like this is our perimeter, but every year there's something that we need to mitigate. This year is the Wharf.' Under the Wharf parking lot runs two underground creeks – Lewis Creek and Gum Spring Branch, also known as Peyton Creek. Near the Byers Street entrance, the two creek tunnels join together. Earlier this year, the city contracted with engineers to study the area as part of the city's flood mitigation efforts. The engineers were concerned with the structural integrity of the tunnel. 'Very early on in our planning meetings, we talked about how we could prevent any sort of negative impact down there,' Lynch said. 'What we've done is rerouted the shuttles – they're going to release all of the passengers … right outside Sunspots. They'll start their day down there. We're going to have a little bit less activity down there just to play things safe but we'll have love letters, we'll have sorting. The businesses down there are still participating.' The tourism boom means expanded business for businesses and restaurants throughout the city. However, the event remains free for anyone to attend. Lynch said she's met several people who became Staunton residents as a result of the festival. 'You can come here … and not spend a dime and have the best weekend of your year,' Lynch said. 'That has translated to new residents, Mary Baldwin students, and people that just call Staunton their home away from home.' Lynch thanked city council and Staunton's city staff for the support they offer the festival each year. "Thank you for believing in the magic, believing in magic, supporting this event, and showing up," Lynch said.
