Sean Diddy Combs lawyer says prosecutors trying to criminalize his private sex life
(Recasts headline and lead, adds closing argument in paragraphs 2-3)
By Jack Queen and Luc Cohen
Sean 'Diddy' Combs' defense lawyer urged a jury on Friday to find the former hip-hop mogul not guilty in his sex trafficking trial, saying
are trying to criminalize his unusual sexual preferences.
The lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, said during his closing argument in Manhattan federal court that over the past two months prosecutors had presented a 'fake trial' to use Combs' sexual proclivities as evidence of a criminal conspiracy centered on his businesses.
"They take the baby oil and the Astroglide and make it the evidence in this case, because there's nothing wrong with his businesses," Agnifilo said, adding that the 'crime scene' in the case was Combs' 'private sex life.'
Combs, a former billionaire known for elevating hip-hop in American culture, has pleaded not guilty to racketeering conspiracy and two counts each of sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution. If convicted on all counts, the Bad Boy Records founder faces a minimum 15-year prison term and could be sentenced to life behind bars.
During the first day of closing arguments on Thursday, a U.S. prosecutor told jurors Combs used "violence and fear" to lead a criminal enterprise that helped him subject two of his former girlfriends to sex trafficking,
"The defendant used power, violence and fear to get what he wanted," prosecutor Christy Slavik told jurors in her address. "He thought that his fame, wealth and power put him above the law."
Combs' defense lawyers acknowledge that Combs was occasionally violent in domestic relationships, but have argued that his conduct did not amount to sex trafficking because the sex acts described by prosecutors were consensual.
Over more than six weeks of testimony in Manhattan federal court, jurors heard two of Combs' former girlfriends testify that they took part in days-long, drug-fueled sex parties sometimes called "Freak Offs" with male sex workers while Combs watched, masturbated, and occasionally filmed. Combs did not testify.
The jury saw hotel surveillance footage of Combs beating one of the women in a hallway, and heard Combs' employees describe setting up hotel rooms and buying drugs for the performances.
Jurors are expected to start deliberations either late on Friday or on Monday. To convict Combs, they must vote unanimously. (Reporting by Jack Queen and Luc Cohen in New York; Editing by Noeleen Walder, Bill Berkrot and Nick Zieminski)

Donald Trump sues Bruce Springsteen for defamation over explosive onstage comments
The battle between politics and pop culture just took a legal turn. Donald Trump is suing Bruce Springsteen for defamation after the singer made some very harsh comments during his recent concert tour. This started as a fight over words and has turned into a legal battle that has sparked a national debate. The lawsuit brings up questions about free speech, political criticism, and whether comments from celebrities can make things more exciting in court. Bruce Springsteen is accused of making "false, malicious, and damaging statements" about Trump in recent interviews and during his 2025 concert tour, according to the filing, which was filed in federal court in New Jersey. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like She Was Beautiful, Now Its Hard To Look At Her Crowdy Fan Undo The lawsuit is the result of a sour public dispute between the two well-known individuals, whose ideological differences have always been apparent, that has been simmering for months. ALSO READ : Canadian outrage erupts after citizen dies in ICE custody - Carney vs Trump tensions boil over Live Events What did Bruce Springsteen say on stage? In particular, Springsteen's remarks on stage at his June 3rd performance in Philadelphia, where he called Trump 'a conman who tried to hijack democracy and sell it back to us at a profit,' are cited by Trump's legal team. Springsteen reiterated his claims that Trump "represents the very worst of America's past dressed up as its future" in a subsequent interview with Rolling Stone, as per a report by Tempo de Conhecer. The lawsuit claims that these statements were "knowingly false and intended to harm Mr. Trump's reputation and influence," particularly during a period when Trump is actively campaigning for a 2028 reelection. Why is Donald Trump taking legal action now? President Trump's attorneys contend that Springsteen's remarks have done "irreparable damage" to the president's reputation and political prospects because of his global following and devoted fan base. Springsteen views the lawsuit as "another bullying tactic" from a man who can't stand dissent, according to those close to him. Springsteen, a longtime Trump critic, has frequently portrayed Trump as the opposite of the working-class values he extols in his music and has used his platform to express concerns about what he perceives to be a threat to American democracy. However, this legal action seems to have gone too far, even for the vocal singer. The President isn't deterred, though. Trump wrote, "Springsteen has been lying about me for years. Enough is enough. You can't just call someone a criminal without evidence and expect no consequences. This is America not a rock concert.' Is this about reputation or free speech? An unnamed friend of Springsteen told a reporter, "This is not about protecting reputation." 'This is about silencing critics. Bruce has been writing and singing about injustice his entire life. Trump just picked the wrong guy to sue,' as quoted in a report. Public opinion has been sharply split on this case; Springsteen fans see it as another assault on free speech in a nation where criticizing political leaders should be tolerated rather than punished, while supporters see it as a daring protest against liberal elites using their platforms to disparage conservatives. According to legal experts, it will be challenging to prove defamation in the lawsuit against Donald Trump and Bruce Springsteen. Known as "The Boss," Springsteen has a career of singing about the hopes and hardships of regular Americans, frequently with a gritty honesty that goes beyond politics. Conversely, President Trump has emerged as a highly divisive figure whose ideas for America frequently diverge from Springsteen's. The case has brought controversy and attention to both men involved. FAQs What specifically did Bruce Springsteen say about Donald Trump? During a concert, he called Trump "a conman who tried to hijack democracy" and later said in an interview that he "represents the worst of America's past." Does Donald Trump have a strong case? Legal experts say it will be difficult. Public figures must demonstrate "actual malice," and Springsteen's comments may be protected as opinion under the First Amendment.

What Makes Us Intelligent? Lessons from Big Bang Theory to Bhagwad Gita
In the sitcom Big Bang Theory, protagonist Sheldon Cooper has a high Intelligence Quotient (IQ). Still, he struggles to understand sarcasm and fails to 'read the room' when confronted with subtle emotions. Sheldon's twin sister, Missy, does not have a prodigious IQ, but she is more perceptive than her child prodigy brother in sensing emotional cues, a sign of higher Emotional Quotient (EQ). American developmental psychologist Howard Gardner has identified eight types of intelligences, including linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, musical, bodily-kinaesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalistic. Naturalistic intelligence refers to our innate ability to interact with our environment, identifying, classifying and labelling the natural world around us. However, natural world exists at myriad levels, some of which can be explained by modern science, and others are still being studied. Greek philosopher Plato's 'theory of forms' refers to the physical world as merely a shadow, an imitation of things, while their perfect, eternal forms dwell in higher realms. Plato regarded intuition and reason as the highest forms of intelligence, as they enabled contemplation on perfect Forms. Indic schools of thought hold that a human being is made of five sheaths, panch koshas: annamaya, gross body, pranamaya, energy body, manomaya, mental body, vijnanamaya, intellectual body, and anandamaya or bliss body. According to Indic spirituality, the ultimate aim of human existence is to attain sat-chit-anand, truth-consciousness-bliss. Human intelligence, too, is like a mirror reflecting nature's intelligence and super intelligence underlined by consciousness that is both within and without. It is visible in beautiful patterns unfurling on their own accord in nebulae, gazillions of light years away or in the tiniest invisible-to-the-naked-eye atom, nay quark, which scientists constantly try to observe through experiments. Then there is Artificial Intelligence that mimics human capabilities, and Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), which, in theory, would possess capacity for abstraction, an understanding of human emotions, and ability to engage in self-directed learning. One look at the night sky or our garden is enough to know that nature's intelligence is at work, guiding life and other phenomena in the multiverse and beyond. And nature's work speaks for itself. So many processes run smoothly at the same time. Natural selection ensures that various species develop attributes for survival. Cells in our body die and are replaced by new ones. Mitochondria are not coded software but programmed to initiate apoptosis (programmed cell death). Beauty of nature's designs and intricate patterns often makes even the hardest of non-believers ponder the question: Is there an intelligent designer? by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Harwich: If You Were Born Between 1945-1974 You Could Be Eligible For This British Seniors Get Quote Undo In Indic systems of thinking, creation emanates from consciousness, jada, inanimate matter appears from chetan, consciousness principle, for Ex nihilo nihil fit , that is, nothing comes out of nothing. This consciousness reflects in all of creation, including human intelligence. Bhagwad Gita identifies 20 types of intelligence, the highest among them being Atma-Vishyak Buddhi, intelligence born of placidity of mind brought about by meditation, that is, when individual consciousness becomes aware of its true nature, the Self. The second is Vishudha Buddhi, pure intelligence, followed by Nishchayatmak Buddhi, a determinate intelligence concentrated on the Self. Buddhi Yog/Buddhi Sanyog is an undistracted intelligence resting steady in bliss because of one's samskaras in a previous birth. The fifth is Asakti-rahit Buddhi, detached intelligence, unaffected by victory or defeat. The sixth is Sambuddhi, abandoning all attachment to success or failure. The seventh is Sthirabuddhi, a stable mind indicative of a God-realised soul; eighth is Sukshm Buddhi, subtle reasoning purified by meditation on Supreme Consciousness. It is followed by Dhairya yukt Buddhi, a tranquil mind, fixed on the Divine. Shuddha Buddhi, sinless mind, Sattvic Buddhi, intelligence that correctly determines paths of activity and renunciation – what ought to be done and what should not be done, what is bondage and what is liberation, and Buddhiman, a wiseman, who practices self-control, which allows him to attain higher intelligence. Besides these higher intelligences, Gita deals with lower intelligence, too. These are: Swarthi Buddhi, intelligence characterised by greed, restlessness, craving; Bhedon-wali buddhi, intelligence of ignorant men moved by desires; Rajasi Buddhi, intelligence that is unable to perceive what is dharm and adharm, what should be done and what should not be done; Mamatva Buddhi, performing of actions only in self-interest; Tamasi Buddhi, total ignorance; Ashuddha Buddhi, impure mind, considering itself the doer. Manda Buddhi, intelligence attached to bodily consciousness; Buddhiheen, an ignorant individual, who regards the Supreme Spirit to have assumed a finite form through birth as an ordinary human being. According to Indic philosophical systems, intelligence and intellect not just enable day-to-day functions but also prepare an individual to realise the ultimate Sachidanand, bliss.
