NEW DELHI: The
election commission of India
(ECI) on Saturday refuted Congress leader
Rahul Gandhi
's claim of "match-fixing" in elections, calling the allegations "completely absurd."
While putting a point wise rebuttal of Congress MP's claims, the ECI said, "The entire nation is aware that each election process including the preparation of electoral rolls, polling and counting etc.
are all held by Government staff and that too in the presence of authorised representatives formally appointed by Political Parties/ Candidates from polling station upto constituency level."
The top poll body added in its statement, "Any misinformation being spread, by anyone, is not only a sign of disrespect towards Law, but also brings disrepute to the thousands of representatives appointed by their own political party and demotivates lakhs of election staff who work untiringly and transparently during elections."
"After any unfavourable verdict by the voters, trying to defame the Election Commission by saying that it is compromised, is completely absurd," the statement by ECI read.
Earlier in the day, the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha outlined the alleged electoral irregularities in a stepwise manner — fake voters are added, voter turnout is inflated, bogus voting is facilitated, and evidence is subsequently hidde
"How to steal an election? Maharashtra assembly elections in 2024 were a blueprint for rigging democracy," Gandhi said while sharing an article written by him.
"My article shows how this happened, step by step: Step 1: Rig the panel for appointing the Election Commission. Step 2: Add fake voters to the roll. Step 3: Inflate voter turnout. Step 4: Target the bogus voting exactly where BJP needs to win. Step 5: Hide the evidence," Gandhi wrote.
"It's not hard to see why the BJP was so desperate in Maharashtra. But rigging is like match-fixing - the side that cheats might win the game, but damages institutions and destroys public faith in the result.
All concerned Indians must see the evidence. Judge for themselves. Demand answers," Gandhi said.
"Because the match-fixing of Maharashtra will come to Bihar next, and then anywhere the BJP is losing," the leader of opposition claimed in his post.
Debunking Gandhi's allegations, the ECI said in its statement, "Electoral Rolls in India, including Maharashtra, are prepared as per the Representation of People Act, 1950 and the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960. As per law, either just before the elections and/or once every year, Special Summary Revision of the Electoral Rolls is conducted and a final copy of the Electoral Rolls is handed over to all the National/State political parties, including
Indian National Congress
(INC)."
The ECI statement further read, "After the finalisation of these Electoral Rolls during Maharashtra elections, as against 9,77,90,752 Electors, only a total of 89 appeals were filed before the 1st appellate authority (DM) and only 1 appeal was filed before the 2nd appellate authority (CEO). Therefore, it is amply clear that there was no grievance of INC or any other political parties before the conduct of Maharashtra Assembly Elections in 2024.

BJP netas woo industrywith promise of strong eco

Ludhiana: Senior BJP leaders are busy holding indoor meetings with the business fraternity to solicit votes for party candidate Jiwan Gupta. Late Friday, BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh and former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, along with several other leaders, met industrialists. Most of the industrialists reside in the West constituency, and almost all the parties are reaching out to them. The BJP delegation led by the party's district chief, Rajnesh Dhiman, called on Omkar Singh Pahwa and sought his support for Gupta. Tarun Chugh and Vijay Rupani were also part of the delegation. Addressing the industrialists, Rupani informed them about PM Narendra Modi's policies for the industry. He said India had become the fourth largest economy in the world, surpassing Japan. He added that the Indian Rupee was doing well in the global market, showing strength against the US dollar. Rupani said in the next few years, the Indian economy could become the third largest in the world, surpassing Germany. BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh said BJP could save Punjab's industry, which was forced to shift to other states due to lack of security and anti-industry policies. He urged the industrialists to vote for the BJP if they wanted to save the industry of Punjab. Onkar Singh Pahwa promised support for BJP candidate Jiwan Gupta on behalf of the cycle industry. Several other meetings were held with representatives of the hosiery and dyeing industry.

Tummala terms Eatala Rajender's remarks on Kaleshwaram as ‘motivated and misleading'

Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao strongly refuted the comments of BJP MP and his former colleague in the BRS government, Eatala Rajender, before the PC Ghose Commission on the Kaleshwaram project that alleged his role in the clearance of the project. 'Eatala's comments on me are completely false, and one wonders whether they were made under external pressure,' the Minister remarked at a press conference here on Saturday while questioning the motives behind them. Mr. Tummala clarified that the sub-committee he had referenced was not related to the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project but to look into other pending projects under the broader umbrella of irrigation, such as Devadula, Kantanapalli, and Dummugudem. 'It was never constituted specifically for Kaleshwaram project,' he explained. The Minister also revealed that the Kaleshwaram project never received formal Cabinet approval. The KCR Cabinet did not deliberate or come forward with a decision on the project. The works were executed merely based on an executive order, he argued. The Minister announced that he would submit the sub-committee report related to irrigation projects to the Kaleshwaram Commission suo motu, and would fully cooperate with the panel. 'At the appropriate time, I will tell the Commission what really happened with the Kaleshwaram project,' he said. He further said, 'My suggestions at that time were always in the interest of the people and farmers.' He said he is ready for a transparent discussion with anyone, but misleading the people with false statements is not acceptable.

Rahul shamelessly peddling lies on Maharashtra poll, says Nadda

BJP president J.P. Nadda on Saturday (June 7, 2025) described Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi's article in an English daily alleging rigging in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly election as 'a blueprint for manufacturing fake narratives, owing to his sadness and desperation of losing election after election'. 'Here's how he does it, step by step: Step 1: Congress party gets defeated election after election due to his antics. Step 2: Instead of introspecting, he cooks up bizarre conspiracies and cries rigging. Step 3: Ignores all facts and data. Step 4: Defames institutions with zero proof. Step 5: Hopes for headlines over facts,' said Mr. Nadda via a post on X. And, he is doing this because a defeat in Bihar is certain. Democracy doesn't need drama. It needs truth.' In the article titled 'Match-fixing Maharashtra' published on Saturday (June 7, 2025), Mr. Gandhi said the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly election saw 'industrial-scale rigging involving the capture of our national institutions'.
