Energy Minister Gottipati seeks Centre's support for REMZ in Andhra
VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, accompanied by Chief Secretary and Special Chief Secretary of Energy, K Vijayanand, met Union Minister of State for Power, New and Renewable Energy, Shripad Yesso Naik, on the sidelines of the fourth Group of Ministers (GoM) meeting on Tuesday.
The minister sought central support for critical power sector initiatives and requested prompt approval of key proposals. During the meeting, Gottipati emphasised the need for early financial sanction of the Green Energy Corridor (GEC) project. He noted that the project is pivotal for integrating green power into the national grid and aligning with broader clean energy goals.
He also sought financial and technical backing for the proposed Renewable Energy Management Zone (REMZ), aimed at enhancing forecasting, scheduling, and real-time grid management of renewable resources. Ravi Kumar further appealed for the exemption of Andhra Pradesh's NP Kunta Solar Park from the newly implemented General Network Access (GNA) charges.
Minister Shripad Naik assured them that the proposals would receive positive consideration.

"False Endorsements, Real Losses": AI-Enabled Financial Scams On The Rise
New Delhi: A digital risk firm has raised an alarm over the rapid rise of AI-enabled financial scams in India in a devastating report that analysed some cases, including a deep fake video of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in which she is seen endorsing fraudulent cryptocurrency. The initial wave emerged with the circulation of deep fake videos featuring Google CEO Sundar Pichai, in which he was falsely portrayed as endorsing a platform called Google Invest, described as a government-supported initiative offering unusually high returns, the report titled 'False Endorsements, Real Losses' by digital risk management firm Athenian Tech said. In its more evolved form, the fraud assumed a sophisticated disguise - a recent campaign replicated the layout and typographic style of the Times of India website to lend journalistic legitimacy to a platform named 'Go Invest' using the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the report said. Further investigations indicate the same ecosystem released a deep fake video of Ms Sitharaman, in which she appeared to be endorsing another fictitious initiative called 'InvestGPT', said the report by the company founded by Kanishk Gaur, who has led leadership roles with Deloitte, EY, and Synopsis. The video, similar in structure to the earlier clip of Mr Pichai, used manipulated lip-sync and voice synthesis to simulate endorsement, reinforcing a now-familiar strategy that relies on public trust in institutional figures, it said. In the 'threat analysis' section, the report highlighted the implications of such synthetic media - they create a misleading sense of legitimacy by showing trusted public figures; they blur the boundaries between authentic and manipulated communication, distorting public perception, and they inflict lasting reputational damage - even after content removal - by spreading doubt and misinformation across digital channels. To fight this new class of digital fraud, the report recommended steps beyond domain takedowns. "What is required is a coordinated strategy that encompasses early detection mechanisms, robust user education, media verification protocols, and stronger accountability from platforms that host such content. In an age where seeing is no longer enough to believe, vigilance must become the default posture," the report said. It also suggested reporting the domain to CERT-In and other cyber security authorities for immediate takedown, notifying the domain registrar and hosting provider to suspend the website, blocking the URL within networks to prevent users from accessing it, raising public awareness about such scams through social media and official advisories, and monitoring for similar domains that may copy this scam to continue the fraud under new names.

Hubballi police lack training on ERSS, complain civilians
Hubballi: While the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) was introduced with a single emergency number, 112, across the nation, it seems city police are not trained on how to respond to callers. In some cases, police insist callers be present at the spot, whereas ERSS assures confidentiality for the caller. In other cases, police show leniency towards marriage processions with DJs and assure callers that the marriage party has obtained permission, even though DJs are completely banned. Many callers note that city police are not trained about ERSS. Suresh Kiresur, former chairman of the Association of Consulting Civil Engineers, Hubballi, shared that one of his friends sought help from ERSS over a footpath encroachment by a trader on Unkal-Gokul Road. "After he registered a grievance on ERSS, local police called him and insisted he show the encroachment. When both Union and state govts assure confidentiality of callers, how can local police insist the caller come out? As my friend argued the same, the police then asked for the shop address and other details. It shows that police themselves are not trained on ERSS," he said. Oppn criticises Union agri minister over no compensation announcement to rain-affected farmers in Maharashtra
Pune: A day after Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited Pune city, the opposition criticised him, claiming that the minister made several announcements but did not announce any compensation for the farmers of the state who faced losses due to recent heavy rain. The state witnessed unusually heavy rain in May, causing damage to crops like onion, bananas and vegetables. While the state govt has assured help to the distressed farmers, members of the opposition said since the Union agriculture minister was in the state, he should have announced some aid. "The agriculture minister spoke about using technology to improve production and to give clean saplings to farmers. We are not against the use of technology in agriculture, but at the moment, the priority should have been announcing immediate compensation to farmers who incurred huge losses due to heavy rain," Raju Shetti, founder of the Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana, said. The state govt has announced panchanama of all farms that suffered damages due to the heavy rain. The opposition members, however, said the process of evaluation of damage should finish fast, and the govt should start providing actual compensation. "We have not witnessed such heavy rain in May.
